City Fans Should Make The Etihad The Beginning Of Our UEFA Champions League History

Pep Guardiola wants to turn the Etihad into a special atmosphere to help Manchester City win the UEFA Champions League. He wants to fix the troubled relationship of the fans of Manchester City and UEFA.

Guardiola made a step towards healing the rift between the fans and UEFA by making a plea through his program notes for the postponed Tuesday UEFA Champions League group game against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The fans of Manchester City ritually boo the UEFA Champions League anthem in response to the animosity they felt after repeated unfair decisions by UEFA against the club.

Most especially, Michel Platini’s controversial Financial Fair Play regulations. UEFA fined City £49m in 2014 and made City play with a reduced squad in Europe that season.

“Manchester City doesn’t have a very long history of success in this competition and we want to change that,” he wrote. “If we are to be successful it means everyone playing their part - the coaches, the players and - very importantly - the spectators.

“Together we have to make these European nights special and filled with passion.

“We have to be loud and proud and make a statement.

“We have to make the Etihad Stadium the place from where we begin to make UEFA Champions League history.”

“It is important that we get off to the best possible start,” added Guardiola. “It is hard in a six-game mini-league to be playing catch-up and every team would like to in first position.

"Momentum is important.”

We are hurt and bitter with the unfair way UEFA treated the club. If we need to cut our boos and the way we show our anger during the Champions League to win the title, I say we do this for the team. If this is what Guardiola wants, let us stop our boos and create a special atmosphere for our wonderful manager. The coach is working very hard for the team, let us help him have the atmosphere.

Manchester City vs Borussia Monchengladbach, Postponed

Amid torrential rain in Manchester, Manchester City, Borussia Monchengladbach and UEFA agreed a new date for the match.

Manchester City's and Borussia Monchengladbach rearranged for the Champions League tie to take place at 7.45pm on Wednesday September 14.

The adverse weather, caused the match's cancellation with less than thirty minutes to kick off.

There was a chance the Etihad pitch was playable but there were concerns over the areas surrounding the ground left officials.

UEFA regulations state that in such circumstances, "it must be played either the next day or on a reserve date or other date set by the UEFA administration."

Nice to hear City put up the Borussia Monchengladbach team at the Etihad. They are our host until after the game. Hope we have a good rest and preparation for the game.

Manchester City To Face Borussia Monchengladbach On Wednesday Night

Adverse weather forced a 24 hour delay of Tuesday's Manchester City vs Borussia Monchengladbach match. The two clubs will meet on Wednesday to have the UEFA Champions League game at the Etihad.

The fans and players of both sides will return to the Etihad for the game after both clubs and UEFA agreed a new date and time of Wednesday at 7.45pm.

The earlier team news revealed that Ilkay Gundogan who did not feature in any games this season due to a knee injury is fit. Guardiola listed him as one of the substitutes of the cancelled game.

We will see if Guardiola will stick to his starting eleven after he revealed that Jesus Navas and Pablo Zabaleta would start the game.

Guardiola had tough times in Bayern Munich when he faced Monchengladbach. In his last four games against them, Monchengladbach won twice and they drew twice. Guardiola knows how dangerous Thorgan Hazard and Raffael are. Even though City are the favorites, he will not underrate his German opponents.

Monchengladbach Wanted To Play The Match At An Earlier Time

Manchester City, Borussia Monchengladbach and UEFA agreed to play the postponed UEFA Champions League tie on Wednesday at 7.45pm.

Monchengladbach is not happy with the time because they wanted to play the game earlier at 6:00pm and fly back to Germany.

Manchester City could not make an early kick off possible because they will not get all the staffs to handle the match at that time.

Markus Aretz, head of media and communications for Gladbach, said:

"For sporting reasons we wanted to play the match earlier and fly back to Germany tomorrow evening.
That was important to us, but City couldn’t make that possible.

"I don’t know the reasons why, but they said we had to play at 7.45pm like today. I think there were security reasons or something. You would have to ask them. Then we had to make the decision to play at 7.45pm.

"We’re not happy with that, but that’s it.
I wasn’t in the meeting. I just know we wanted to play earlier tomorrow. That was important for us. Now we have to take it like it is."

As much as an early kick off would work for the Monchengladbach team, we need to handle the match in a professional way. It is a big game, our first home game in the UEFA Champions League this season.

If organizing the staffs to handle this game will prove difficult for City, then a later kick off is right.

Nice Manchester City offered to accommodate the players and staffs of Monchengladbach at the Etihad campus. It shows we want the best for both teams.

Stones Passing Ability Suits Guardiola's system

Former manager of the English national team, Glenn Hoddle believes Manchester City made the right choice, securing the services of English international John Stones for a huge transfer fee.

City raised eyebrows when they parted with £47.5 million to sign the former Everton center back.

John Stones attracted a lot of criticisms last season after some of his mistakes caused Everton to lose games. He likes to play out from the back, instead of kicking the ball out when his team is under pressure. Many saw this as the cause of his mistakes.

Despite the defending mistakes, Guardiola made it clear that he wanted the 22 years old defender at Manchester City and the club parted with the huge sum to sign him.

Since the arrival of Stones at Manchester City, he looks an improved player from his time at Everton. He slotted in nicely at the back and his ball playing ability is an important part of Manchester City's build up play from the back.

Hoddle believes Stones’ passing ability makes him a perfect fit for Guardiola’s system.

“The main man [in City’s back four] is John Stones – that’s why Guardiola went out and got £50 million worth of a defender because it suits the way he plays,” Glenn Hoddle said, according to Manchester Evening News.

“Stones has got the ability to take out four or five players with just one pass.

“He can play with his head up. When he’s running at pace, he can see the picture and he waits to draw a midfielder out and release a City player to go on the attack again.

“That’s why they paid £50 million for him.”

Guardiola believes the team that controls the ball, controls the game. He believes a team that knows how to keep possession stands a better chance winning the game.

For a team to control a game and keep possession, it needs players with the ability to hold the ball. This also requires players with good passing ability.

This is why Stones fitted nicely into the team. He looks a better player because the system requires him to do what he is good at.

He has players around him who are also good at keeping possession. This makes it easier for him to work with the team.

Otamendi An Improved Player Under Guardiola

Glenn Hoddle praised Manchester City centre-back, Nicolas Otamendi. Otamendi looked an improved player since the arrival of Pep Guardiola.

Otamendi had some good performances last season but in some games, he had poor performances. This changed this season and he is showing attributes that were not part of his game last season.

Nicolas Otamendi played superbly this season. In the Manchester derby, he was one of the outstanding players.

Former England manager, Glenn Hoddle praised the Argentine defender for his improved performances.

“We know Guardiola likes to pass out from the back and Otamendi this season has been told to pass out and he’s doing it really well,” Glenn Hoddle said, according to Manchester Evening News.

“It’s surprising from last year – he’s showing attributes I didn’t think he had.”

Guardiola's possession-heavy style requires the defenders passing out from the back and helping the team build attacks.

With the team working together, it brings out the best in players who looked poor under pressure. Guardiola's style gave Nicolas Otamendi the chance to explore his passing ability and it is paying off for the team.

As Otamendi continues to believe in his passing ability, we will see him get better game by game.

Monchengladbach At A Disadvantage

Markus Aretz, head of media and communications for Gladbach believes because his side wanted to fly back to Germany today, they are at a disadvantage.

He believes his side will lose some of their supporters due to logistics and plans. He acknowledged Manchester City's help by allowing the players and staffs of Monchengladbach stay at the Etihad Campus.

"I think it’s always a disadvantage when you have to stay one day longer than is planned. For the away team, it’s a disadvantage – without fans etc etc." He said.

"Hotel was not a problem because City offered us the chance to spend the next night in their academy, but that would have made no difference to us because the hotel wasn’t a problem. We wanted to fly back tomorrow."

It is a disadvantage when things do not go according to plan but Manchester City also have challenges of our own. We wanted to play yesterday to give us room to prepare for our weekend game. The staffs and fans of Manchester City will also face challenges.

No denying, the adverse weather made things hard for Monchengladbach. Glad we could help even if the head of media and communications for Gladbach played down the help.

Guardiola Shows Faith In Gundogan

Guardiola made a surprise change in his starting line-up, after the officials postponed the Champions League tie between Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach. He handed Ilkay Gundogan a chance to make a surprise debut by putting his name on the starting line-up.

Guardiola decided to rest David Silva for the game and chose to play Gundogan in central midfield. David Silva's will take no part in this game because his name is not on the squad list.

Gundogan had a knee injury which required surgery. After the surgery, the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder did not play any game this season for Manchester City.

Guardiola showed faith in Gundogan earlier this season when he opted against signing Paul Pogba, Toni Kroos, Renato Sanches and N’Golo Kante in favour Gundogan.

This means Guardiola has faith in Gundogan's talent and knowledge of the game. City should expect a brilliant performance from Gundogan.

City XI against Monchengladbach: Bravo, Zabaleta, Otamendi, Stones, Kolarov, Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Navas, Sterling, Aguero.

Subs: Caballero, Sagna, Nolito, Sane, Clichy, Iheanacho, Angelino.

Guardiola chose to rest Silva because he feels Gundogan is ready to play fully. Also, Gundogan was always in Guardiola's plan to play the creative midfield role.

It is like a knew invention because Gundogan never played that wing. He is a deep lying playmaker but Guardiola is changing his role.

Guardiola believes Gundogan is ready.

It is Manu Garcia on loan to Alaves. Angelino is still around.

That's good. Am thinking it may be a precautionary measure.
But generally its good. Our star players are injury prone and the best is to manage them this way.
And seeing gundogan making his full debut is a thing of joy..

City Fans Should Forget About The Past With UEFA

Pep Guardiola wants Manchester City fans to forget about the wrongs they received from UEFA and work towards making Manchester City stronger.

Manchester City defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 in an entertaining Champions League tie. Guardiola wants the fans to fill the stadium in the next Champions League game.

He wants the fans to know their support makes the team stronger. They also make the atmosphere during the match entertaining. He wants the City fans to turn up for their team.

City fans booed UEFA during the Champions League anthem and the turn out for the game was low. Guardiola made a plea to the fans to help the team get stronger. There is an intent to do great things at Manchester City and the club needs the fans to assist them do this.

"I was not here, I don't know what happened, but they must forget what happened in the past," the manager said.

"The people can talk about our club and our team.

"What only we can do is play every time better than the day before and (make) people say 'Wow, I'm going to the Etihad Stadium because I spend 90 minutes there and I have fun'.

"Today the stadium is not completely full so the only thing we can do is play good so the people at home say wow next time I will be there.

"What happened in the past is the past - forget about it."

There are decisions UEFA made that the Manchester City fans find disturbing. Recently, UEFA ranking teams based on history of winning titles.

However, it is time we let the past go and focus on giving the manager the atmosphere he feels will make the team successful.

We can not continue this way. Punishing our players for the wrong UEFA did to us.

Guardiola believes a charged atmosphere, devoid of boos will make the team stronger. Let us do our part to help the team so that they can do big things.

Guardiola Is The Special One

Former Manchester United midfielder and harsh tackler, Roy Keane said the tough decisions Guardiola took since he arrived the Etihad impressed him.

Guardiola made tough decisions like dropping Joe Hart as the number one goalkeeper and sending some of the club players on loans. Players like Joe Hart, Nasri, Bony and Mangala. Guardiola dropped Yaya Toure from most of the starting line-up this season.

Roy Keane believes Guardiola is ‘the special one,’ and not Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

“He said he’s a challenging coach - doesn’t look like he messes about,” Roy Keane said, speaking on ITV.

“I wouldn’t like to mess with him.

“Two coaches in Manchester. Mourinho reckons he’s the special one, to me this guy is.”

Guardiola's results and style of play so far shows he is a special manager. I do not think we need the special tag or make it look as if he is competing Jose Mourinho.

What Guardiola should focus on the next team we face. Just as we did against Borussia Monchengladbach. We prepared hard for them and acknowledge the danger in their style.

Mourinho can keep the special one tag.

There was a time in the locker room at Camp Nou, Ibrahimovic picked a box loaded with things and threw at Guardiola. Ibrahimovic was angry with Guardiola and wanted Guardiola to react violently.

The box did not hit Guardiola and the contents spilled. Guardiola did not say anything to Ibrahimovic. He bent down and picked the contents of the box. He filled the box and closed it.

That is how he wants the fans to react towards the bad treatment of UEFA.

Gladbach Win Shows Manchester City Is Improving

Hat-trick hero of the Champions League tie between Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach believes the win was the best Manchester City played since Guardiola took over.

The Manchester City players were dominant against a brave Gladbach team that came to cause an upset. The impressive, dominant play of Manchester City made a strong, skillful and attacking Gladbach side look weak.

With Gundogan making his debut and putting a brilliant display, it showed the team is getting stronger.

Aguero scored a hat-trick before Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winning goal.

Aguero praised his manager for his effect on the team.

"Guardiola is very different from the coaches I have had. He talks a lot and requires a lot, he doesn’t let you be relaxed.

"I think Wednesday’s game was our best since Guardiola arrived. We are happy because we are playing how he wants us to play.

"I’m happy to work with Guardiola because he treats everyone equally, and that is important."

Since Guardiola's arrival, the team improved in the way they play. The pressing shows determination from the players to win the games. The comfort in the players playing in different positions shows the amount of coaching work put into each player.

The improvement of each player like Sterling, Otamendi, Stones and Kolarov shows Guardiola knows the right things the players need to know and do to improve.

It was an exciting game and definitely the best performance so far. The team is still improving and we will see better performances than this Gladbach masterpiece.

Moreno Stays Focused Despite Signing For City

Marlos Moreno believes that interests from big clubs is not a guarantee that a player is top quality. He believes a player needs to work hard and do well in games before people see him as a top quality player.

Manchester City announced the signing of 19 years old Marlos Moreno during the summer transfer window and sent him on loan to Deportivo La Coruna.

He told Marca:
"One can go mad by calls from big clubs...but you have to keep working and know you have not done anything yet."

Very nice that Marlos Moreno keeps his focus on proving himself as a top quality player. If he is going to make it at Manchester City, he has to work hard and improve his game.

There are lots of top quality players in Manchester City and it will take his best to make it at the club.

Marlos Moreno is a brilliant and exciting forward. That was why Manchester City signed him. It is time for him to work hard and prove that the club made the right choice signing him.

Wish the young man the best.

Aguero Wants The Champions League

Sergio Aguero’s contract runs out in 2020. He won trophies with Manchester City. Trophies like the English Premier League titles he won twice, the FA Cup and the League Cup he also won twice.

The Argentine puts the Champions League as his target and hopes he achieves it before his contract runs out.

With Guardiola in charge of the club, many feel this is the right time for the club to put up a good challenge for the Champions League title.

Aguero scored a hat-trick against Borussia Monchengladbach after a dominant display from the Cityzens. He hopes he can win the Champions League with the club because of the brilliant manager in the club. He also sees the club improved after the additions to the team.

“I still have three years more here,” he said. “I hope to achieve that at some point as it’s really important for any player.

“Obviously the Champions League is not easy.

“There are a lot of fantastic teams as well. But my idea and the club’s idea is the same - try to win this competition.

“We played really good, but there are other teams that are more candidates - Barcelona, Madrid or Bayern are the type of teams that are always there. We have been working and improving in the last three years.

“The club has signed new players and a new coach in order to keep improving and we are ready to achieve a Champions League final. I don’t know if it is going to be this year, but we will try.”

This is the right time for the club to put up a good challenge for the Champions League title. After that display against Borussia Monchengladbach, we can see where Guardiola is going with the team.

The new signings, Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane had nice games.

The possession-heavy style suited the team and the positioning of the players was intelligent.

We need to put in our best to make the best out of this time. We need to keep doing well as each game comes. With time, we can become one of the European elites.

Silva's Fitness Challenge Not A Problem

David Silva felt pains in his ankle during the morning training session for the postponed UEFA Champions League tie between Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Guardiola chose to leave him out of the team because he did not want to risk Silva picking up an injury.

Guardiola does not consider the fitness challenge of Silva a serious problem but he does not want to take risk with Silva for the Bournemouth match.

“He is not a big problem, but he will probably not be able to play against Bournemouth,” Guardiola said. “Hopefully next week against Swansea he can be ready.”

With Ilkay Gundogan putting up a good performance against Gladbach, we can use him to fill the creative attack midfield role while Silva recovers.

Silva played an instrumental part in making the start of this season a success and we can not wait to have him back. He is in good hands with the medical team and I do not think we will miss the magical Silva for too long.

Get well soon Silva.
