It was that season of fuel hike, exorbitant transport fare, drivers were angry, and passengers were not smiling. It was a season when you can earn a slap so cheap and you can get yourself to the police station for mistakenly pushing someone, who landed at the hospital.
This hot afternoon, the weather wasn’t so hot. But it was hot very very hot inside of me. I stood stranded at Ajah like a lost sheep. The 1000 NGN that I took with me for transport fare was not enough to transport me back home. I went past Ajah to a place called Sangotedo. Now I am left with just 300NGN and that could barely take me home, except to Obalende.

I got to smile, as I saw a branch of my bank at Ikota shopping complex. I had deposited some money in my bank account, which I decided not to touch. But due to the situation, I had to ask people around and I informed about the location of the bank.

I walked into the bank and-and collected 1000 NGN to continue my journey. I didn’t have any ATM card with me, and there was no money in the account whose ATM I have. I walked down the complex and burst out at the entrance of the complex.

I heard a very soft voice “hello, how are you? your bag is opened”. The voice was so soft that I tripped, yes I tripped I must confess. I quickly said thank you and zipped my bag properly. As I was about to go, he signaled to me to wait then he told me the purpose of his coming. I was impressed again. He had come to invite me to a seminar which promotes women’s participation in politics. And also defining the identity of the woman. I was really impressed.

I was interested in the topic so we started a conversation. The conversation lasted for about 45 minutes. I had forgotten I had to leave Ajah for my house at Isolo. It was a productive encounter because I love it when men give so much value to women.

I discovered that he is a footballer, who plays for a club in South Africa. He had come to Nigeria just a few weeks ago. He told me that he stays at Badore. Surprisingly, his name was Jay Jay and he hails from the Southern part of Nigeria. I have not seen him since then, but it was a beautiful encounter.

I am sure many people are saddled with the notion that I am about to write about the popular Jay Jay. Well, you may be wrong because I met another special Jay Jay. Nigeria indeed is a beautiful place to be, and Lagos is very interesting.
