The annual event which has been on for five years now is done to celebrate the first official day of autumn, as well as raising money for charity. The event took place at sunrise, after the autumn equinox – which occurred last Thursday. The participants gathered at Druridge Bay, in Northumberland after paying a fee of £12 before the event, which gets donated to charity.
One of the participant this year, Ellen Headingly, who is 45 years old, was reluctant to do the dip last year but her friends cajoled her and she said she enjoyed the experience last year. So she decided to come for the experience on her own again this year.
