It's a technical matter! Not even the Chief Justice Of Nigeria condoned the act of the DSS.

International bodies who have be lauding the administration for fight against corruption have all shown their disdain for such tactless and reckless show of force.

Please what international bodies?

Those waiting for the response of NBA will wait for eternity. It is the SANs who act as middlemen for corrupt judges - that's why they are jittery.

Now the political movie is interesting. Let the government torchlight Nigeria prison. Where many innocent Nigerians are sentence to unwanted jail term by this evil judges. Many big boys serve their prison term in their homes and hotels.

An extension of NBA? Laughable!

Headed by a Nigerian doesn't make it an extension any more than any individual heading the AU makes the AU an extension of his country.

This government just set a dangerous precedent and we can only hope future executive arm of government doesn't use it to intimidate judges tomorrow.

The fight against corruption is laudable and supported but you don't go badging in on judges with policemen (DSS) and rounding them up on matters of judicial corruption! That's so military-government-like!

There are procedures to be followed!!!!

ALARMING EMERGENCY !
PLEAESE, ALL THE MODS AND MY GOOD PEOPLE ON AWESOME NAIRALAND,TAKE TIME TO READ,CONFIRM AND SPREAD. LET OUR ATTENTION BE DRAWN TO THE THIS ROT AND EXTORTION GOING ON IN LAGOS STATE HEALTH SECTOR,GENERAL HOSPITALS ( IGANDO, AGEGE GENERAL HOSPITALS TO BE EXACT). I AM SURE OUR WONDERFUL GOVERNOR IS NOT AWARE OF THIS HYDRA- HEADED MONSTERS REPRESENTED BY NURSES AND DOCTORS IN GENERAL HOSPITALS IN LAGOS.
OUR PREGNANT MOTHERS’ LIVES ARE IN DANGER O ! I HEARD A HEART-BREAKING STORY FROM A PREGNANT WOMAN WHO ATTENDED ANTE-NATAL CARE YESTERDAY IN ONE OF THOSE HEALTH CENTRES IN LAGOS. DELIVERY PACK THAT IS PROVIDED FREELY FOR THEM BY THE GOVERNMENT IS NOW BEING SOLD TO THEM IN GENERAL HOSPITALS AT N8,500. COCONUT OIL AND PAD AT N2000 WHICH IS COLLECTED FROM THEM ON THE DAY OF THEIR H.I.V TEST. IT MUST BE PAID BEFORE THEY EVEN LOOK AT YOU OR ATTEND TO YOU. DELIVERY CHARGE WHICH WAS N32,000 HAS NOW BEEN INCREASED TO N45,000 IN THE SPACE OF 14 DAYS (2 WEEKS) ,WHICH THEY NEVER SAW COMING. IT BECAME A HUGE RUDE SHOCK TO THEM YESTERDAY. THESE FEES MUST BE PAID BEFORE DELIVERY !!!! IN THE CASE OF CS, IT WAS N45,000 TO N90,000!!!!!! ALL WITHIN 2 WEEKS !!!!! MANY OF THEM HAD TO LEAVE IN TEARS NEVER TO RETURN AS THEY DON’T HAVE HOPE OF RAISING THAT MONEY FROM ANYWHERE;LEAVING BEHING BLOOD DONATION WHICH THEY ALL MADE BEFORE ANTE-NATAL. THIS BLLOOD DONATION HAD TO BE MADE BY THEIR HUSBANDS !!!!!! MY PEOPLE, WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE ? THIS COUNTRY IS HARD. IN A DAY, NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT ASK ME FOR ALMS ON MY WAY TO AND FROM WORK INCREASES. THE OTHER DAY, MY YOUNGER BROTHER WHO CAME VISITING FROM THE AIRPORT TO MY HOUSE WAS ACCOSTED BY FOUR PERSONS ASKING FOR ALMS. THE ONE THAT GOT HIM CLOSE TO TEARS WAS A CASE OF A MAN WHO ASKED HIM FOR DIAPERS FOR HIS CHILD. HE SAID THAT HE DOESN’T NEED ANY CASH BUT PAMPERS AS IT IS CALLED. WE UNDERSTAND THAT EVEN THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT FINDING IT EASY BUT THEY SHOULD TAKE IT EASY IF THEY ARE THE ONES BEHIND THIS UNTOLD HARDSHIP AND EXTORTION ON PREGNANT MOTHERS IN LAGOS. PLEASE, MY MERCIFUL GOV. AMBODE, LOOK INTO THIS. LETS SPREAD THIS UNTIL THIS WOMEN’S HOPE AND CHANCES OF SAFE DELIVERY IS RESTORED.
THANK YOU, NAIRALAND FAMILY.

I perceive that other corrupt judges will be planning burning the dollars, pounds, euro etc or any documents that can implicate them so as to be seen clean from the anti graft agency. Nigeria will surely rise again.

Judges are not special members of the society by law but by convention. If they break the code of ethics they can expect to be treated like any other citizen would.

If their human rights have been violated they know how to seek redress.

Rubbish threat. It's belated. They should be calling for the Review of the membership and law setting up the NJC.The membership of NJC should reflect the plurality of stakeholders in the third arm of government

Without punishing the corrupt judges, the oncoming ones would thread the same path. And we will call for review of the law and policy of the institutions again.

Please note that law and policy are prerequisite guidelines that must not be compromised. Where it is, severe penalty is taking against the culprit.
NJC has power to have directed the corrupt judges for proper prosecution but chosen to treat them with kids gloves.

A judge that evidently collected even a contract has compromised his professional uprightness and as such should face negative consequence of his action. Retiring such a judge is a bad signal to the upcoming ones. After all, the ill-gotten money (bribe) made would be enjoyed without any prosecution.

NJC has failed the entire judiciary.

It was mainly a matter of judicial malpractice! A search warrant is meddlesome and an obfuscation of due process!

Heard the DSS released them on " grounds of self recognition and NJC not in support". That's an awkward submission.

NJC failed woefully in those procedures. Let's examine and x-ray the allegations against the judges so far. That will help us a lot than analyzing paper procedure. DSS raised allegations, forwarded them to NJC.....note procedure dully followed. But NJC failed to subject the alleged judges for prosecution.

Listen, NJC had set up bad precedence for the judges since. How can you explain morality existence in a case where a judge collected N270m bribe and all NJC could do was to retire him and asked him to be repaying install-mentally?

When the NJC retires a judge on malpractice, by legal implication, such judge could and should be subjected to criminal prosecution!

The DSS cannot do the job of the NJC should it fail. We care so much for results without minding the process by which the results are attained.

Same way police improvised extra-judicial killings with the excuse that judges and courts are unreliable!

Today , innocent souls have been wasted because of that practice!

I believe those judges are somewhat wanting but I'm an advocate of preserving the separation of powers and rule of law ,as it were ,without the need for executive overriding! This will be a dangerous precedent as tribunal judges and election matters will be subjected to commando style arrest of judges with the slightest excuse of corruption without the behest and findings of the NJC!

That's my stake! It is a fundamental matter and the DSS procedure is cutting off the head of our democracy to save the body!
