The literature is quite informative but glaring that it's basis is about still winning audience as the Author's profession demands. It has failed to broaden, counter and profer solutions to her highlights like an economist would have done.

It's just about pain and gain, Buhari's policies re on track though I might disagree with some which is based on personal analysis judgement. Buhari is simply breaking bends that with flex our economy.

Please name 5 Buhari's policies. Please. Just five.

His intentions, good as they well might be, are rooted in an outdated economic model and an infantile view of Nigerians. For him, it seems, patriotism is not a voluntary and flexible thing, with room for dissent, but a martial enterprise: to obey without questioning. Nationalism is not negotiated, but enforced. - Chimamanda Adichie

She is not the most respected.
Ben Okri is there above her.
And of course, the great Lion of Negritude, first black Nobel Prize winner in Literature, Prof. Wole Soyinka is still the most respected.

Chimamanda has raised her issues against the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
But as much as her points are good, I can see that she is still one of the elites of the hypocritical ruling class who only feel threatened when government policies affect their elitist lifestyles. Their indulgence in imported foreign goods.

She has a young nanny who should be going to school and not babysitting for Madam Chimamanda.
The nanny is from a poor family and the best Madam Chimamanda can do is use the underprivileged girl as housemaid instead of sponsoring her schooling for a good education.
Child abuse is a crime.

Madam Chimamanda knows how to criticize, but what has she done to help her community and country?
Is employing a poor Igbo girl as housemaid her own own contribution to national development?

I am also a writer and Founder and Executive Director of Girls United Together for Success (GUTS) project for the promotion of education, protection and welfare of underprivileged girl in Nigeria, endorsed by UNICEF.
I want to discover and help to produce more Chimamandas and not nannies.

Hello,
You do not have enough right to criticize Adichie for taking up a nanny when she could have offered her education.
We may not know if the nanny of hers, had finished her education before applying for a nannywork after months of failed attempts at obtaining a white collar job in a time of recession and employee sacks. You do not have enough information to judge Chimamanda just yet.
The nanny may have studied CATERING in school, may be desperately in need of job, or may even be uninterested in education, if life itself is a choice, how much more education?
Even Bill Gates has housekeepers, what stops Adichie from keeping one and paying her a regular salary if she is comfortable with a nannywork?
Have you criticized Gates for employing housekeepers?

Chimamanda is indifferent to both GEJ, and PMB.She's writes based on what is happening around her.that she supported Buhari in the past does not mean that when he is wrong he shouldn't be criticised. By the way what have you contributed to the nations besides staying behind your phone to critic a woman that has done so much for herself?

We all had high hopes when this government came into power, and because she openly expressed support for them does not mean she should keep mute when things are not going as they should in this country. We have all been disappointed by the failure of the Buhari's admininstration to fulfill its campaign promises. She is stating the obvious in her write-up which you should see and not bringing tribal sentiment into this. She is standing for the truth and am sure you are holding this position because you feel those that are killed are not from your region. If you truly believe in one Nigeria, you will see everyone that has been affected by the Fulani herdsmen attack as your brother or sister irrespective of what part of the country they come from.

She is using her platform to showcase Nigeria to the western world as she is respected globally for her literary prowess. She preaching feminism is to give credence that women does not belong to the Kitchen, living room and the other room but that they can aspire to great heights as their male folks.

So please learn to better appreciate our own in this country. God bless Nigeria

I really don't like when people are discussing serious matter, you guys will bring up Jonathan's name. Jonathan, is gone and gone. Allow him his rest.
Jonathan and Buhari are not in competition and i am not sure he will ever contest for presidency again in Nigeria. Every little discussion and you bring up Jonathan's name is annoying.

I doubt Chimamanda Adichie wrote this. It looks like a script handed to her by someone. Too one sided, devoid of lots of facts and too much passive statements.

What I read about the judges convinced me this is not an honest write up of Chimamanda.

I will respect a fair and honest criticism. Not a biased view from someone who is a voice of this generation.

She talked about the currency challenge like someone who does not know anything about what she talked about.

She talked about the President's refusal to listen to Economists and his adherence to pegging the Naira. So failed to explain that after the President adopted a modern Flexible exchange rate, the dollar rose at a faster rate to the naira.

This is one clear example of how biased her write-up was and it is disappointing. People look up the Chimamanda Adichie. Before she writes, she should perform a proper research.

The Department of State Security recently barged into the homes of various judges at midnight, harassing and threatening them and arresting a number of them, because the judges’ lifestyles “suggested” that they were corrupt.

This is pathetic from someone who young people see as a role model. How can she for one second attach the arrest of the judges to their lifestyle?

I repeat this is a handed script and not a well thought article. Chimamanda Adichie failed to talk about the multiple petitions written to tackle corruption in our judiciary system.

She failed to talk about the fact that the DSS contacted the NJC about corrupt judges and the NJC refused to listen.

This is another case of how biased and one sided this article is.

As usual, some Nairalanders simply can't resist the urge to derail a promising thread through idiotic tribalistic attacks. What does Adichie's background have to do with anything she's said here? How would it make anything she says less true? Some of you people seriously need help - not everything needs to be made into an "Igbo vs Yoruba" quarrel.

Getting to the actual article, I can't see how anyone can argue with what Adichie has written. Buhari's delay in appointing ministers was simply inexcusable, as he should have done the necessary vetting during the campaign period, to enable him to hit the ground running if he won: that's how things are done where people know what they're doing.

Adichie is also absolutely correct about Buhari's economic policies, as they are nothing more than the same old socialistic nonsense he tried back in 1984, leading to the same results as they did then: shortages and hardship everywhere. When you artificially cap the prices of goods and services in the name of "saving the masses", you end up up with shortages, and that is as true in Nigeria as it is in Venezuela. Notice how the petrol shortages magically disappeared when Buhari finally relented and allowed pump prices to rise? The current "dollar shortage" is also equally artificial and easily fixable, but the ignorant Nigerian masses seem happy enough to suffer while Dangote and a few lucky others continue to be subsidized with cheap dollars at their expense.

I won't even get started about the DSS raid on the judges, which so many people on here continue to cheer uncritically, simply because the DSS claims to have carried it out in the name of "fighting corruption". Never mind that it's easy enough to take a picture of a stack of money and claim it was seized from whomever; nobody who knows how this will look to outsiders can imagine the effect will be to do anything other than scare away foreign investors. Nobody wants to put their money into a country where the masses dismiss the rule of law to cheer on a strongman arbitrarily dispensing "justice".
cool
