It wasn't this bad until someone from the SS became President for the first time.

The hatred a section of the country av for GEJ; is beyond human reasoning. Some go as far as wanting him jailed and killed if possible. And wen the north/west av been in power for about 40years plus. The SS/SE never wished any head of state death.
It makes me believe a section is more tribalistic than another.
