Am assuming the lawyer will become your property agent. That's a good idea. It's never a good idea to deal with tenants directly. Agents collect, take a TINY percentage and deposit the rest on your account. And don't Intervene when the agents start dealing with harshly with the tenants.

Use someone as a scape goat and remind them who is in charge.

You can infact arrange police so you don't break any rules. Give the police 1k for nkowbi n stout

Why should you have to handle your properties to a Lawyer? Is the lawyer a qualified Estate Manager? The only person you should handle your property to is a qualified Estate Management. I am an Estate Manager.
Do not patronize the quacks (Lawyers) that handles properties. They will frustrate you. Evidences are clear on Nairaland that Lawyers will frustrate your properties (Tenants and Landlord).
Approach a certified Estate Management company today.

I think this is the best advice. better deal with a bad tenant than deal with a crook lawyer.

Becarefull of the lawyer u will hand it over to, when it comes to money, trust no one. The lawyer can even be worse than your tenant.

My advice, walk up to few land lands in your area, find out the best lawyer in ur environment b4 you commit your self.

If u can't handle it; get a lawyer for help, your a man and i have not heard of a man that has two heads or dickson.
Bucckle up and call him for a meeting to know why he behaves such, know the condition of his business,if ur not satisfied with his explanation then fire him.cos ur the man

Can any other professional represent a plaintiff or defendant in court apart from a Lawyer? Why are you diving into a profession that's not yours.
When we have defaulting tenants, we will call you to represent us in court not entirely take what we ought to do from US.

Hand the property to a Property Lawyer, not estate agent, Property Lawyer, and offer him 25% commission on rent collected as the only payment for services he'd get.

You'd be surprised the effectiveness of rent collection and your tenant behaving himself.

Once he pays the entire rent, give him quit notice and allow him the grace of 3months. But while at that, involve the law.

ask him to pay YOUR WAY BECAUSE IS YOUR HOME . If he don't agree call police and get him out and say he threatening to kill you or whatever to make the eviction process faster.
