MrEverest: You are the one that actually typed trash. Saying things you have no proof of and reiterating them as facts. Sometimes one can't do but marvel at the level of mental slavery of some Nigerian youth. Why can't we feed ourselves? What is our problem? The rice we import, are they not cultivated by human beings? Is the black man cursed?? 2 Likes 1 Share |

I think the puzzle remain? Why do Nigerians prefer using Benin border and other neigbhouring countries to ship most goods like Rice, Vehicle etc from whence it is either smuggled or brought in to Nigeria through land. The answer is not far fetched. Is like they have more friendly import duty or levy or incentive . The amount of extortation Nigerians undergo in our various shipping ports like Tin Can Island and Badagary is nothing to write home about which this administration if there are serious should address first. And funningly most of the se funds are never remitted to Nigerian Government. So if these tendencies in our ports are continued to be tolerated, our neigbhouring countries will remain safe haven for Nigerians desirous making maximum gain at our collective detriment. |

gfullmoon: That's actually not d reality of the problem. There is only one reason why the custom duties are low in Benin republic. Their economic policy in dt country is To keep an eye on Nigerian import charges & make theirs lower accordingly. It's a poor country. The Nigerian market is their livelihood. No matter how low Nigerian imports are, they make sure theirs is lower so they can sell stuff across d border. This is a fact. Nigeria has reported them several times to ECOWAS but they never stop. |

Nellybii: It's really sad. And we all kp waiting for leadership to make chAnges. We, ourselves, need to change. Look at dt person saying pple are actually repackaging local rice as imported rice. We are d ones doing ourselves. Sometimes it seems there's no hope for this country. |

I have never seen anywhere local rice is sold in Lagos. What are the people going to eat if rice importation is banned and there's no enough local rice to serve the people. They should fix thier house first, make local rice available and affordable before banning rice importation. As at now the local rice in this country is not enough to feed one third of the population... so why ban rice importation? So we can die of hunger? |
