I want to breakdown this verse, I will do it in parts:

1. the sign of the Son of man in heaven
2. all the tribes of the earth mourn,
3. The Son of man
4. coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

The sign of the son of man in heaven will cause all the tribes of the earth to mourn

Heaven is the leading ruling nations of the earth. Mathew is telling us that something bad will happen to the nations which form heaven, and this happening will cause all the tribes of the whole earth to mourn
