Fulani herdsmen and Anambra youths in faceoff as Nigerian Navy saves the day

According to first-hand information reaching Somtoo Okoye blog, there was pandemonium at Okoti-Odekpe in Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State during a faceoff between local youths and Fulani herdsmen on Tuesday.

The eyewitness says that Fulani herdsmen encroached a vegetable plantation with their cows destroying the farmland around around 7:30AM. When the owner of the farm protested their actions and raised alarm, he was butchered by the herdsmen who scattered in different directions as residents and youths of the area mobilized for an attack.

3 of the herdsmen were said to have been caught and brutalized while 5 cows were also killed. My eyewitness says that Nigerian Navy - whom have a barrack in the community - immediately swung into action and saved the herdsmen from the angry youths.

The Police Area Commander for Onitsha, Yahaya Abubakar, confirming the incident said:
"Yes, arrests have been made."

Once Fulani herdsmen are at the receiving end, the military are always very fast to respond and rescue them. When they however strike, the military Will suddenly disappear. Anambra will be the Waterloo of this murderous herdsmen.

add the source from vanguard too,it would add more credibility. i would bet you that the governor would keep mute over this matter because he's always ass licking buhari while those Hausa police officers would side with their brothers, destruction of dry season crops by Fulani herdsmen is becoming too rampant in anambra state. we need a fayose in anambra not this ass licker called obiano.

your governor would sabotage any effort to fight back just as greedy traditional rulers and government officials did in enugu until the nimbo massacre.

i would like to use this opportunity to narrate what happened in my community in idemmilli so that other anambra communities would learn their lessons from it.we woke up one morning and saw a settlement of Fulani herdsmen on a large plot of land allocated to a Roman Catholic Eucharistic adoration ministry at uke, when we investigated, a family that deals in cattle business was fingered for inviting them into the community but they denied. the villagers quickly called for a meeting at the village town hall where it was revealed that the herdsmen have been there for a few days with guards coming from the onitsha military barracks every night(might be a false rumour), it was also revealed that they have financially settled the well armed and numbered local vigilante who were now opposing any move to evict them from the church land. even as villagers were still delibrating on the matter, herdsmen arrived the town hall and demanded to be provided with wives. our people calmly asked them to go that we would contact them later, the villagers voted and ruled that the herdsmen must go.they now met the igwe of the town(he's from another village in the town) and maked their stand known. the igwe called the Catholic priest who denied any knowledge of the presence of the Fulani herdsmen, the igwe now called the governor and made it clear that the herdsmen must leave within three days knowing fully well that the governor wouldn't like to get into trouble with the Roman Catholic church with his re~election by the corner, i believe the governor called the miyetti Allah people and the Fulani left within two days. anambra people should be very wise about this people as they're clearly hell bent on establishing settlements all over the state either diplomatically or violently while the security forces protect and aid them against the villagers

So the "eyewitness" and "first-hand" accounts are not credible enough? Did you see Vanguard at the scene? What makes the person who wrote the article for Vanguard more credible than the person who wrote for Somtoo?
