In Buddhism a type of freethought was advocated by Gautama Buddha, most notably in the Kalama Sutta:

""It is proper for you, Kalamas [the people of the village of Kesaputta], to doubt, to be uncertain; uncertainty has arisen in you about what is doubtful. Come, Kalamas. Do not go upon what has been acquired by repeated hearing; nor upon tradition; nor upon rumor; nor upon what is in a scripture; nor upon surmise; nor upon an axiom; nor upon specious reasoning; nor upon a bias towards a notion that has been pondered over; nor upon another's seeming ability; nor upon the consideration, 'The monk is our teacher.' Kalamas, when you yourselves know: 'These things are bad; these things are blameable; these things are censured by the wise; undertaken and observed, these things lead to harm and ill, abandon them. ".,.,.Do not accept anything by mere tradition.,.,. Do not accept anything just because it accords with your scriptures.,.,. Do not accept anything merely because it agrees with your pre-conceived notions.,.,. But when you know for yourselves-these things are moral, these things are blameless, these things are praised by the wise, these things, when performed and undertaken, conduce to well-being and happiness-then do you live acting accordingly."""

Your writeup made a lot of sense; but you should no that Buddhism is different from christianity in many ways; if that piece of advise worked for buddhism, there is no possibility that it would work for christians.

About 65% of the world's population believe in christianity, and secondly, christianity is the clearest and purest religion; everything you need is there for you in the bible.

So there's no need for we christians to free ourselves from any shackles.

The road to eternity or heaven is not under the wings of your imam or pastor, rather the road to eternity lies in our hearts.
Anybody capable of thought will not need a pastor/imam to understand the concept of right & wrong, good & bad!

When your respective religions become a burden, instead of a vehicle to spiritual evolution & self awareness, then its time to ponder on the reality of the above passage!
Please it applies to all religions

I know that; but in order to advance and grow spiritually in your religion, you have to bring yourself down to the discipline of that religion.

Once I event my own believe about my own religion, and that believe contradicts all others, then I'm no longer loyal to that religion.

So in order to remain on track, I would suggest that you obey all the rules and commandments of your religion and remove your mind from any thoughts that would make you superior to whatever you believe in.
