The award for the Premier League Grounds Team of the Season for 2017/18 has gone to Watford.

The club's head groundsman, Scott Tingley, and his team won the award for the pitch at Vicarage Road after assessment from the Premier League's Playing Surfaces Committee and the independent assessor Dr Stephen Baker from the Sports Turf Research Institute.

The award is based on a number of factors including marks from referees and match delegates, usage of the pitch and the environmental conditions, an end-of-season pitch quality assessment and the resources and resource management at each club.

"The award is testament to the pitch's current condition, the result of much hard work and dedication from the club's grounds team," Scott Duxbury, the club chairman, said.

Tingley and his team will receive the award on 5 May, at Watford's match with Newcastle United.

Verne Troyer, who was popular for playing Mini-Me in the 'Austin Powers' comedies and also for being one of the shortest men in the world, has died at the age of 49.

The actor died on Saturday April 20th after years of struggling with alcoholism. Verne was reportedly taken to the hospital earlier this month after cops got a report he was drunk and suicidal. He's been on some form of life support since then and was treated for possible alcohol poisoning.

Verne has been to rehab many times as a result of his alcohol addiction. In a statement, Verne's family said during the recent adversity, "he was baptized while surrounded by his family."

The comedian was born with the genetic disorder known as achondroplasia dwarfism. He began his Hollywood career in 1994 as a stunt double for Baby Bink in the film 'Baby's Day Out.' He then landed small roles in 'Men in Black' and .Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' before making it big as Mini-Me in 1999's 'Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.'

Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie has been chosen by the Harvard College Class of 2018 to address the graduating seniors as part of the annual Class Day celebration on May 23, the day before Harvard’s 367th Commencement.



The announcement was made on the Harvard Gazette. According to the co-chair of the speaker selection committee,



“We are honored to welcome Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as our Class Day speaker. Her eloquence and perspective as a writer and public speaker have inspired audiences to look beyond stereotypes and social norms to recognize our common humanity. In her captivating TED talks, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie urges us to better understand one another’s stories and to plan for ‘a world of happier men and happier women who are truer to themselves.’ This is a powerful message for our class to hear as we reflect on our time at Harvard and prepare to write the next chapter of our stories,” said Jerry Nelluvelil, co-chair of the speaker selection committee.



The Harvard College Senior Class Committee has invited a guest speaker for Class Day since 1968. Prior to that, the honor was given to University affiliates, such as deans, faculty, or classmates. The first invited guest was Martin Luther King Jr., who accepted the invitation shortly before his assassination. His widow, Coretta Scott King, delivered the speech in his absence and also became the first woman to give a Class Day address at Harvard. Since that time, speakers have spanned fields including politics, social activism, journalism, film, comedy, and more.

Ahead of this Sunday's PFA award, the two big Egyptian Premier League fixtures have been moved due to his nomination for PFA Player of the Season.

Mohamed Salah has been nominated for the award. He faces competition from David Silva, De Bruyne, David De Gea and Harry Kane.

With fans wanting to watch Sunday’s awards ceremony, at which the 25-year-old is a favourite to claim the gong, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) decided to shift a couple of major matches in order for supporters all over the country to watch the event.

Al-Ahly’s fixture against PetroJet and El-Zamalek’s match against Al-Asuity were due to be played at 18:00 and 20:30 respectively on Sunday, but the latter would have clashed with Salah’s big moment.

Consequently, the first match has been moved forwards by 15 minutes to allow the latter to be played earlier at 20:00.

EFA president told Egyptian media: “Everyone is pleased that Salah is a candidate for the award. I had no problem at all convincing everyone with the late changes, people wants to see his success and celebrate it.”

Marcos Alonso will miss Chelsea's next three matches, including the FA Cup semi-final, after being found guilty of violent conduct in the 3-2 win over Southampton.

The Spain international appeared to stand on Shane Long's calf during the Premier League clash at St. Mary's Stadium last Saturday, in which the visitors came from 2-0 down to claim the win.

He will miss Thursday's league game with Burnley at Turf Moor and the trip to Swansea City on April 28, as well as the cup meeting with Southampton at Wembley on Sunday.

Emerson Palmieri, who has made just three appearances since signing from Roma for an initial EUR20million fee in January, is expected to replace Alonso.

"Marcos Alonso will miss Chelsea's next three matches after an Independent Regulatory Commission ruled he had committed an act of violent conduct against Southampton's Shane Long," an FA statement confirmed.

"Alonso denied the charge and further submitted that if found proven the suspension would be excessive, however, this was rejected following Wednesday's hearing.

"The incident, which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video, occurred in the 43rd minute of Saturday's game."

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick has said that the Super Eagles players could pocket a sum of $24 million if they play in the final of the 2018 World Cup.

Pinnick told newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday during a parley that the money was part of the agreement reached with the players to share 50-50 if they reach the final or win the World Cup.

“I don’t put players under pressure. Pressure can be put on them unconsciously because we are creating enabling environment for them.

“If for example we don’t have money to prepare them, they can now relax but now, we have given them everything upfront and they should deliver.

“If today they get to the final, the World Cup money will be shared 50-50 between the team and the NFF.

“Winning the final is 48 million dollars, it means the team will get 24 million dollars and the football house will take the remaining 24 million dollars,” Pinnick said.


He also spoke on the arrangement of grade A friendlies for the Super Eagles ahead of the world cup. Nigeria is expected to play England and Czech before the Mundial.

Pinnick added that the glass house had already secured 2.8 million dollars to pay the players allowances and bonuses during the mundial.

“We are ready to play against England on June 2 in London in an international friendly. We had a conclusive meeting with the England FA.

“After the England match, we will play Czech Republic and from there we move to Russia. As it is everything is going on very well.

“For the world cup, I don’t think we have any problem, I am in touch with the technical committee. It is the desire of every Nigerian to see the Super Eagles do well at the World Cup.

“We had a meeting with the team, we signed a contract with them and ready to pay them 20 per cent of eight million dollars which is what is accrued to us for the World Cup.

“At the end of the day it amounts to 2.8million dollars which will go to the players. The money is almost 100 per cent ready,” Pinnick added

Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho has committed his future to the Old Trafford club.

The Ex Chelsea manager has signed a deal until at least 2020, with an option for a further year.

Mourinho, who became the first United manager in history to win a major trophy in his first season when he secured the EFL Cup at Wembley last February.

He has also led Manchester United to success in the only competition it had never won, the UEFA Europa League win in Stockholm in May.
