Debunking Amir Sanusi's Half Truths by FeloniousFelon: 11:50am On Feb 13, 2017
Amir Sanusi has a way of telling half truths all in a bid to paint the decaying level of Northern society as a grand conspiracy to suppress the north.

In his latest tirade attributing the low educational level among majority of northerners, the Amir attributed this critical deficit as a direct result of British colonialists' unwilling desire to "educate the north".

Amir Sanusi remains aloof to the fact that the British never directly invested in educating the native population in any part of their colonies in both Northern and southern Nigeria. It was down to Christian missionaries who trailed behind the British colonial expedition who first set up schools in and across both Northern and southern Nigeria.

Sanusi had his primary education at the St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School, Kakuri, Kaduna between the years 1967-1972, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. The school was set up by Catholic missionaries and not the British.

Sanusi will later proceed to Kings College, Lagos to compete his secondary school education.

I had to highlight Sanusi's early education where we see he attended a Christian missionary school.

The northern elite had no problem sending their wards to free bursary Christian missionary schools cited within their domain but discouraged their poor populace from doing same.

The fact that Sanusi had to leave the north in 1972 to attend secondary school in Lagos showed that the Northern leaders still where yet to provide descent secondary education for themselves.

If Sanusi still insists on blaming the British colonial govt for the north's backwardness, then what can we say for the last 57 years of independence? Why is the north still far behind the south?

The Yorubas had an early head start in education but within 30yrs prior to independence the east had rapidly closed the gap.

When the late Sarduna complained to the then British administration of the low numbers of northerners among the army officer Corp, the British dismissed him stating that they had been desperately encouraging education in the north against Northern resistance and that the army officer Corp as it was is the reality of northerners shunning education. The Sarduna on immediate return to the north, began searching the few secondary schools like Govt College, Bida in company of a recently commissioned young officer known as Gowon to recruit young northerners into the army, encouraging them forthwith to take their studies seriously.

What has Northern Nigeria and Amir Sanusi done for Northern education since the late Sarduna?

I have no doubt that if the Sarduna was not assassinated he would have spear headed an education revolution in the north.

So Amir Sanusi should stop blaming the British for the educationally backwardness of the north.

Interesting, I always enjoy reading your write ups.

That aside, the north is really fond of blaming everyone else for their backwardness in every aspect except themselves ie social and infrastructure wise. They've produced majority of Nigeria's leaders but still no sense to develop themselves despite also sitting atop most of Nigerias oil well licenses. They've had Tafawa Balewa, Gowon, Murtala Mohammed, Shehu Shagari, Buhari as a military tyrant, Babangida, Abacha, Yar'adua and now Buhari again as a civilian tyrant. Not counting the numerous governors and administrators plus commissioners et al. The educational backwardness in the north should be placed squarely on the shoulders of northern politicians and elites who have deliberately refused to take their peoples education seriously cool

Islam promotes a form of passive socialism.

Northerners being majority Muslims always expect free handouts.

And they have been getting it since 1970!

This is how Buhari sent a stark illiterate to be nominated as a member of BOT for the NCC.
