Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to militia operating in Agatu area of the state to surrender themselves to law enforcement agencies or face the consequences of their action. The Governor who received arms and ammunition recovered by the army in Agatu, was reacting to the recent attack on military personnel in the area which led to the killing of a soldier. He described the incident as unacceptable.

Governor Ortom restated the resolve of his administration to assist security agencies in identifying those behind the act to face justice and advised youths still in possession of illegal weapons to surrender such arms to the appropriate authorities.

He sympathized with the Chief of Army Staff over the murder of the soldier, assuring him of the State Government's support and commitment to the ongoing peace process.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Retired Colonel Edwin Jando presented the recovered weapons to the Governor, describing the feat as a result of the resilience of the military personnel deployed to the area.While I strongly condemn the attack on and killing of military personnel, I support community militias set up as self defense against invaders in the face of failed govt protection. We all know what Agatu people suffered last year in the hands of Fulani secret army.

Meanwhile, the Commander, 707 Special Brigade Forces, Makurdi, Brigadier General Clement Apere has stated that no house was destroyed nor lives lost during the military search operation in Oweto, Agatu local government area.

General Apere who stated this while briefing newsmen to clear the air on the operation, said the exercise was meant to apprehend armed militia who had killed a soldier and made away with his riffle. He maintained that the army obeyed rules of engagement during the operation.

The recovered weapons included two AK47 rifles, two SLR rifles, one fabricated pistol, three locally made pistols, live amunition, police and military kits, some charms and substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

Has it ever occurred to you that the NA is composed of multi-ethnoreligious personnel, and if such thing was going on that there was bound to have been an outcry or even mutiny from any group that may consider their brethrens are being unfairly treated?

Has it occurred to you that there may be wailers like you among the soldiers carrying out the operation or even the victim soldier could have been one?

So you want us to believe that the Aguta ppl are entirely blameless in this conflict and that the Army was therefore wrong to have unearth the evidence against them; while preferring the governor to have taken sides and not taken any action against them?

In the middle belt Hausa Fulani NCOs are being drafted to trouble spots like Southern Kaduna and Benue.

FYI, during the Jos crisis, the Berom people rejected the army from patrolling their villages because they knew that the majority Hausa Fulani army was supporting their Fulani herdsmen.

Well if that was true; then can you pls tell me who was the president and the Chief of Defense during the Jos crisis (and by your logic responsible for lopsided composition) that warranted the Beroms to have rejected the Army from patrolling their villages.

By the same token, I can upload a video clip showing how the Beroms were roasting and eating the bodies of Muslims they killed as the police watched and turned a blind eye - this may perhaps explain their preference for the police instead of the Army.

Majority of agatus are muslims. Who you know does not change that. Not every incident has a religious motive, stop stirring sentiments for no reason.
