naijaking1:

Once upon a time, the federal goverment appointed a proud Kano prince called Sanusi to be the governor of CBN. Sanusi was formerly the MD of First Bank, but his educational qualifications, practical experience, and general understanding of banking as a whole remains an issue of controversy in 'some quarters'
Then, one day, Sanusi woke up and said he has just fired 5 bank CEOs, including that of Intercontinental. He alleged serious and various professional, civil, and personal misconduct against these CEOs, but the CEO of Intercontinental was not in the country as Sanusi was rounding up fellow bankers, senior colleagues, and likely personal enemies as criminals to be locked up by the EFCC. He later congratulated himself for saving the nation's banking industry from imminent collapse.
Top jargons as usual Naijaking. . .
What has the gobblydygooks you spewed up here got to do with a company identifying the need to trim its workforces and reduce overheads?
He alleged serious, personal and professional misconduct? Are they not true?
The erstwhile CEO of intercontinental back, Erastus Akingbola, fled didnt he?
The poppycocks you spewed has failed to constructively answer my post, which you quoted my friend. . . . .

I find this talk about Sanusi's islamic scholarship childish and stupid.
Who refers to Akingbola's pastorship or that dude that ran Omega bank aground that was a reverend.
Yet every keeps talking about his islamic scholarship as if it limits him rom executing his responsibilities.
it is a cheap shot that reveals the small mindedness off those who use it.

Banks are not a socialist venture. No bank will keep employees it cannot afford, especially when they've been paying these employees with borrowed money.

Now, lets run through the rhetoric with regard to Naijaking's assertions.

Naijaking has oft-alleged that Sanusi is a marxist/socialist.

If Sanusi was a socialist, then I am sure he will be putting pressure on these banks to retain their workers right? Thats what socialists do.

Instead Sanusi is concerned that the banks are running a tight-ship.

Margaret Thatcher, the poster-girl of right-wing capitalism was villified for instructing mining companies (amongst other cuts in the public sector) to cut their workers/production because coal-mining was simply not profitable anymore. Unemployment soared, and the miners almost brought Britain to a standstill. Years later, Thatcher is lauded for her strong fiscal policy and is credited with bringing Britain back from the brink of socialist ruin.

Likewise Sanusi says banks must get their expenditure in order. How can Naijaking explain the discrepancy between his labelling of Sanusi as a "socialist" and his "capitalist" actions?

If you read the section in the original article where it said, Alabi was concerned about having many moles loyal to the former MD, and they're trying to clean house, why are you still stupidly asking how Sanusi is involved with laying workers off?

the only one showing any level of stupidity here is you! You happily swallow any story as long as it paints sanusi in bad light. Can you bet your life on these allegations being true? Why are you always on about letting the Ibrus et al have their day in court before believing in the allegations against them, yet you're so willing to condemn anything associated with Sanusi even on mere hearsay?

one thing i find amusing about nigerians is that they want to be a modern market economy like america or uk or even china

but when market forces act, they start to get all emotional and become conspiracy theorists

do u know how much jobs have been lost in america in the last 1yr?

at one point this past yr we were loosing 750,000 jobs a month. . .and thats not a typo

no-one should be guaranteed any job anywhere, once the global economy re-accelerates,these jobs will come back bigger and better for everyone

Sorry, you are going in the wrong direction; Sharia is not religion, Sharia is not Islam; don't mix up matters or you might be labelled as mischievous.

A Muslim's faith does not depend on Sharia and Prophet Muhammad did not practice Sharia.
If Akingbola was a member of "prophetess" Helen Ukpabio's Liberty Gospel Church, you would have a case. Any modern day school of thought that accepts slavery, amputation, stoning to death etc like Sharia does, is just as primitive as Helen Ukpabio's child witch beliefs. We don't need primitive minds on the national stage.

I think you will find that majority of Nigerians will prefer the sort of policies that obtain in Venezuela and Bolivia where the peoples resources are used to look after the people.

You either believe in market forces or you don't. The action of bailing out is in itself socialist, the banks should have been allowed to fail with CBN guaranteeing customers money and EFCC & ICPC going after the erring Bank officials.
Please show us 5 central banks that have used Sanusi's approach globally?

Sanusi has been an unmitigated disaster, his policy unraveled within days of implementation (that is a record in itself) I ask you where are the investors that he traveled the world wooing?

so u would rather,be a venezuela than a china or indonesia?

i dont think so homie.  . .any system that encourages welfarism, and dependence on the state is doomed to failure

and prone to one man cultish leadership, like u have in venezuela

nigeria has everything it takes to be on par with indonesia

i hope u do a little reasearch on them, see how u lift people out of poverty with market based policies

as for saving the banks or not. . . .letting them fail will hurt the poor ppl more than the rich. . .

thats why banks were shored up from new york, london to shanghai

Bros stop spreading yankee propaganda - providing people over 60 years of age with $30 per month (as evo morales has done in Bolivia is a good thing) or providing free and compulsory education for the people (as Chavez has done in Venezuela is wonderful).

Your loyalty must always be to your country and your people first and not foreign investors. BTW New york, London and shanghai didn't throw any Bank directors in jail.

Lets be honest sanusi caused the recession  cheesy

I thought he travelled to allay fears of investors in these foreign countries
with the present outlook, you dont really expect investors rushing into Downtown lagos

Thank you.
This lay-off, attacks on shareholders, dismissing bank boards, and even knee-jerk firing of the CEOs are preventable events that could have been done better.
Last week, when I predicted massive job loss via Sanusi, his in-house praise-singers called for my head.

i told u about indonesia, and u are screaming yankee propaganda. . .how typical to dodge the issue

providing ppl over 60yrs with payment requires that u have a pension scheme already in place. . .for several yrs b4 hand

or do u think the money will magically grow on trees?

this is not about loyalty, its about bringing ppl out of poverty,as is done in india, china ,indonesia south korea,u name it

the market forces, with albeit local slant is the way to go. . .keep dreaming about venezuela, when the oil runs out over there in 20yrs what will u say?

meanwhile india or china with no oil is going to the moon. . .think man

When people disagree with you it doesn't mean they are fighting with you or it is somehow personal. Don't always degrade your arguments with unecessarily defensive or offensive language. There is nothing in the words you are responding to that deserves such a response as you've given above.
A lot of the time you come up with good positions, but they get lost because most people don't want high bp because they are on NL and they might just gloss over your stuff.

Anybody who didnt predict job losses in the banking sector must be living under a rock. FYI, downsizing started way back in September, with WEMA banks sacking of 500 workers, so your prediction was perhaps an afterthought.  wink

There will be more layoffs to come, just like in any company going through a downphase.

Now, Nigerians need to get over this Northern Agenda bla bla bla, and face issues that concern us. The fact of the matter is that anyone who believes this Northern Agenda bullcrap will never invest in the market cos they believe it is being rigged. Lets assume 30% of Nigerians believe that insidious lie. Thats an immediate 30% of potential investors out of the market. Another large percentage (including myself) will not want to get involved knowing that this 30% are not investing. More bear pressure on the market.

How damaging is Vanguards article potentially to the financial markets?

What if it is all a lie?

Does anyone still believe the Vanguard story? Hands up if you do.

No offence taken, Indonesia is not a great example for you because it was a ruled by a character for 30 years named Suharto whose policies are the basis of the success you are highlighting. Around 1999 Indonesia embarked on massive nationalisation of private assets just like bolivia and venezuela.

Indonesia is heavily reliant on their manufacturing sector, how do you think the credit drought caused by sanusi is affecting the nigerian manufacturing sector?

What is the inflation or interest rate in Nigeria?
The question you need to ask yourself is what reforms has Sanusi suggested to ensure this situation doesn't happen again?
What improvements has sanusi made to the regulatory framework?
Has deposit protection for savers been improved?
