During a house followship, the preacher was talking about paying of tithes and how it can open doors for you. It was question time and I asked him why they never preach of tithes from this section of the bible below;

22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.
23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always.
24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away),
25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose.
26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice.
27 And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.

28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns,
29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

The preacher told me to disregard that part of the bible!!! I mean; is it not the same bible?
If we can disregard this part, why can't we disregard the other?
Are preachers only preaching to favour themselves?
Are there other verses we are suppose to disregard?

It seems religion is the biggest scam of all time.

They are avoiding that part of the bible because it won't benefit them. This tithe thing is being over emphasized in most Nigeria churches. Even Jesus Christ that is the son of God did not preach about tithing, instead his preaching was all about giving of alms and how people can make heaven, citing from most of his parables in the bible. The problem with Christianity is the gullible people who are too lazy to read their bible and understand it with the help of the Holy spirit.

The one that annoys me most is CHALLENGE GOD. The pastor or preacher will tell you to give to God something big oh! It could be your salary, feeding money, money to start your house foundation, etc so that God will bless you a million times more.

During a house followship. . . . .Are preachers only preaching to favour themselves?

Why are you using a question to criticize the church . Is the tithe money for the preacher? Does he not give tithes as well . So how is he favoriting himself

The preacher told me to disregard that part of the bible!!! I mean; is it not the same bible?

Why didn't you ask him why he said so. ? He could have answered you.

,If we can disregard this part, why can't we disregard the other?

There was regular annual tithes which goes to Gods house through the levites . But the other 2 kinds of tithes which was shared with the poor were more like alms to the poor.

The principle still applicable . Individual alms and corporate inner city help prijecy

The preacher here is in general term. It is being used as a represent pastors/preacher.

You said it is still in vogue yet ignored by the church. I never knew we have another class/type of tithes, guess It wouldn't profit them if they tell us about it.

Sister, tithe is tithe jaré.

2 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV)

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Sister, tithe is tithe jaré.

There were three kinds of tithes .

The three different types are as follows:
1. The Levitical, or sacred tithe (Num. 18: 21, 24).
2. The tithe of the feasts (Deut. 14:22-27).
3. The tithe for the poor (Deut. 14:28, 29).
The first tithe, the one we trace back to Abraham (Gen. 14:18-20), is the sacred tithe, given to the Levites and priests for their service to the temple and the congregation in the Old Testament. This is the tithe we continue to give under the priesthood of Melchizedek in the New Testament. It is the tithe consecrated to God and the furtherance of the gospel and has, therefore, validity for all believers in Christ.
The second tithe had an entirely different aspect, and we would do well to contemplate its meaning and purposes. Our enlightened generation prides itself on its social laws and provisions. Even a superficial study of the tithing system reveals that several thousand years back, Israel had something that resembles the Christmas Club savings system, only with a much broader religious and social meaning. The Levitical law required that a Jew had to go up to Jerusalem on certain occasions. In reality this religious ordinance included a definite social provision—periods of vacation for the family. And how should the head of the household provide for the vacation expense? By setting aside a second tithe, the one described in Deuteronomy 14:22-27, the tithe for the feasts. Thus the second tithe was dedicated to the good of man himself, for a vacation and specifically, a vacation with a religious purpose, such as going to camp meeting.
The third tithe was the tithe for the poor. According to our text in Deuteronomy 14:28, 29, this tithe was given only every third year. As the text states, the produce had to be laid up in "your towns" for the Levite, sojourner, fatherless, and the widow. It suggests that the distribution was not left to the individual but was a community project to which everybody had to contribute. This tithe, therefore, was for the neighbor. Summarizing the three types of tithe in the Old Testament period we find a much broader concept of giving than we generally assume, giving that included first, God; second, man's own physical and spiritual welfare; and third, their neighbor's need. God, you, and your neighbor is a good trinity in planning one's giving.

tithing
Three Kinds of Maaser
A tenth of the remainder of the yield, known as maaser rishon, ‘the first tithe,’ is then separated and given to a Levite. The Levite, in turn, separates a tenth of his tithe and this, known as terumat maaser, is given to a Kohen to be treated with the same degree of sanctity as the original terumah, The portion given to the Levite has no sanctity and may be eaten by an ordinary Israelite.

The farmer separates a tenth of the reminder of his yield, known as maser sheni, ‘the second tithe.’ This has to be taken to Jerusalem and consumed there in a spirit of sanctity. If it is too difficult to take the second tithe to Jerusalem, it can be redeemed by substituting for it a sum of money which is then taken to Jerusalem and food and drink purchased with it to be consumed there.

So giving to God should strictly be a tithe (10%).
