We lost count of the weddings that took place last year, but it doesn’t necessarily translate that everyone who wished to get married the past year, had their dreams come to pass. There are many lovebirds who wished to walk down the aisle, but just can not afford it…. Need I talk about the recession the country is experiencing recently?

But honey, you don’t need all the wealth in the world to get married, you can have a classy, budget-friendly wedding in this time. Let me teach you how……

Here are the basic things you need to have for a wedding:

1. Wedding outfits

2. Food and Drinks/Wedding Cake/ Wedding Venue/Chairs and Tables

3. Photography/Video coverage

4. Wedding Rings

First, you need to know that the wedding is all about you and your spouse. A lot of people go overboard (some incur debt), just to impress the world. You don’t need to invite everybody. Yes, they would be disappointed, and yes, they would eventually move on and still congratulate you. Get a limited number of people you know you can cater (Item #7 things) for, say 100 people. Then, print invitation cards accordingly. Also, you might pick a weekday for your wedding, most people are at work, so that’s a bonus for you.

Secondly, have a budget. In fact, your budget will determine the number of people you can cater for, the size of hall to rent etc. Get your priorities right and eliminate all unnecessary expenses (I know you had plans to have your honeymoon in Dubai, but if your budget wont accommodate that, get a good hotel here in Nigeria, to have all your honey in the moon). You don’t need expensive outfits to look good. Search stores and online shops for beautiful wedding dress(you could rent one) and suits that cost less. There are affordable wedding rings too, go for those! Get a good photographer, video coverage ain't bad either. You don’t need the best known photographer, I bet there are good photographers who would do very beautiful works for less price. Ask around and check the jobs they have done in the past to confirm their professionalism. Arrange for low cost DJ/MC, or get a friend/relative to do that for you. Go for a small wedding cake.

Moreover, you should stick to a type of wedding on your big day: say Church wedding and then reception. You don’t necessarily have to do traditional wedding and church wedding together. You could just stick to one, it helps trim down costs.

Finally, remember once again that the wedding is all about you and your spouse, smile a lot on your big day and look forward to a better future with your spouse. Remember, people will eventually forget about your wedding, but they would always remember your marriage.
