It is a deadly Viper. West African Gaboon Viper (Bitis rhinoceros) to be precise. Closely related to East African Gaboon viper (Bitis gabonica). One of the most poisonous viperid and most poisonous snakes known. Do not be deceived by the python/boar similar coat pattern. See the square like draft pattern on it. Not same as constrictors. Top of the head is usually white/very light grey.

A very aggressive snake indeed.

It is a viper like the puff adder (Bitis arietans), but this is West African Gaboon viper (Bitis rhinoceros). The adder varies in colour brownness depending on camouflage need (being so widespread across Africa except thick rain forest & dry desert of Sahara) but Gaboon viper always has bold light/white patterns on the coat.
