Restoration of some of these lost grazing routes by the FG would no doubt go along way towards easing tensions and therefore minimising conflicts between farmers and the herdsmen.
Oga, we no gree. We are ready to buy beef products and support commercial herdsmen ranches to conquer the African beef market, that will make US proud that our brothers are doing well; but we are not ready to throw away ancestral lands of the South.

The first step in this is to have States and LGs conduct referendum votes so indigenes and citizens can vote to indicate willingness to admit foreigners to graze cattle on their land.

What about farming routes, fishing routes, snail rearing routes, pig farming routes for those NOT into Cattle farming......I swear these Fulani are up to it again with this nonsense expansionist mindset. The annoying thing is that other parts of Nigeria are too selfish and fighting themselves to see that the MOST stupid member of the Country is now dictating it's future.....When the West and East were in the Presidency all they cared was to loot the coffers dry and no plan for the future.....now these ones are planning how to conquer your lands and enslave your children's future....WAKE UP!

That will not work, Sir. What happened to commercial ranching? What is it about commercial ranching that 'scares' the sh-t out of some people? Commercial farming will make these same herdsmen form ranches like the cowboys did in the US, and that is perfectly acceptable. Not so grazing reserves which looks like ethnic cleansing.

Nigerian government and there backward thinking, why are this government bent on destroying the country with easy to solve problem. Its not done anywhere in the world where government will take individual properties and hand them over to private individual businesses for what,? Ranching is the solution this is a private businesses let them go and acquire land with their own money and ranch their cows that what sane people do. The government of federal republic of Nigeria are proving Nnamdi Kanu right.

It is an under hand tactic to STEAL land by the Fulani North.....If this bill is allowed, it means a sub-section of the Country (Northern Cattle Farmers) have free land handed to them in every part of the Country which can be enforced by law. It is a smart way to land grab, if the locals complain....or try to block access by lets say Seceding from Nigeria....they will quote the "Pastoral Land" as the reason for sending Federal Army in to quash any objection, it is a back door to every part of Nigeria.

Those routes you are talking about, Sir, are people's ancestral land, given to them by their ancestors to pass unto the next generation. This will not work. Fearless activists like Fayose (Omoluabi), Fani Kayode (Jagun), Apostle Suleiman (A Man Of God), Wike (Dike Ndi Igbo) and other fearless Southerners will oppose this. Nigerians who wish to see the herdsmen become international businessmen as they should be will oppose this.
Commercial cattle ranching remains the only answer. Cattle business is not politics and should not be politicized.

Sums it up!
May God bless you for this comment.

I suspect that this is a strategy to carve out land in states for the exclusive use of their cattle.

This may be d plan B after the cattle grazing bill was rejected.

Communities should shine their eyes lest their land or even villages are reserved for Libyan Herdsmen.

By the way, why are they rejecting the option of building ranches?

We are in the 21st century abeg.

It seems you guys aren't in tune with what's happening? There's a proverb that says a snake doesn't bring it's head out from it's hiding if the surrounding isn't clear. For the Federal Government to assiduously push such a darling and fanatical sentimental policy without an iota of sensitivity to it's environment only shows how clear and fertile the path is towards executing their plans, there is definitely series of underground work they have executed to ensure they see to their demands!

Its high time that the government cracks down on the nomadic lifestyle of the cattle people and put a permanent solution to it.

Basically nomadic grazing means cost-free living & feeding. Where it might have been possible in the pre-independence and in the pre-development period, it is no longer feasible in today's Nigeria.

The mayhem, maiming, murders and crimes caused by these cattle and their herdsmen is so heart breaking considering that the government has done little or nothing to bring these perpetrators to book and get them convicted.

Going forward, a crack team should be despatched across all states of the country to mount extensive surveillance on the movement of these cows while using Geotag locators, GIS & GPRS to ensure their livestock remain in a ranch. Failure to comply results in seizing the livestock and jailing the herdsmen.

Lastly, going forward, any businessman intending to go into the business of cattle rearing should be issued a licence and MUST register ALL staff. Getting a license means you must have a ranch, otherwise your cattle is seized permanently.

These guys need to be heavily regulated the same way banks, telcos and discos are regulated before the madness and mayhem will come to a conclusive end

Perhaps if you had bothered to READ the damn post you wouldn't have embarrassed yourself like this.

The man in charge says they have grazing routes across the entire country and you say its only the north.

You need to tell us whether you are his boss cos if not you should keep quiet.

Marotzke:
Informed commentary is dead. Welcome to a country where demagogues polute the cyberspace and inflict every one with their bombastic ignorance.
There have been grazing routes, demarcated and gazetted since 1961, but by northern Nigerian government.
It is this grazing route that is being reactivated and re energised. There have never been any grazing route in Nnsukka, Aguleri, Auchi or Ogbomosho so none to be re activated.
Even the examples given ; Bauchi and plateau have always had grazing routes which are currently being encroached upon.
If you don't want grazing routes in Benue,Kogi, Taraba, Plateau or Gombe?
Go to your state house of assembly and repeal the existing law.
If you have no prior existing grazing route in your state, be on the watch out for your state Governor to avoid your ancestral land gifted for cattle marching.
Buhari/ FG have no such sweeping powers.

The man in charge of what? Well maybe you gain something from being an alarmist. Grazing routes are already there in northern Nigeria.
What they want in Southern Nigeria is grazing reserves. Don't confuse the two.
Maybe you should keep quiet and stop exposing your ignorance.

The cattle route demarcation is a haux, don't be fooled. If we don't fight against this, we'll wake up one day and see our parts of our ancestral land under the SOKOTO CALIPHATE.

Foolish Nigerians, you better register your anger by boycotting beef and goats, before you eat your lives and peace of mind away. If you are still eating any meat from the north, you are eating your children's flesh and the future generations cos you will look back in few years from now and curse yourselves for your inaction when you had the opportunity but did nothing. If Nigerians don't stop this from happening, you might as well greet everything you've ever known goodbye. This is the work of the Hausa & fulani to move deaths close to your doors, people wake up! It's all a strategy to plant killers in every nook and cranny to make it easy to kill Nigerians. Cattle don't need routes, they need to be in ranch up north and transported throughout Nigeria. And why is the Fg in the business of cattle? Is there a ministry for that? Let there be protest everywhere now before it's too late.

This post is filled with strategies Southern human rights activists should start planning with.

Grazing reserves is the same thing as Apartheid and Segregation. Martin Luther King fought segregation successfully using the boycott strategy and peaceful protest strategy.

The racist governor Wallace of Alabama and his elite promoting segregation and White supremacy were forced to bow. Boycott hit the pockets of the White supremacists so hard they were forced to beg Blacks to end the boycott and resume buying their services.

The nonviolent protests created awareness and publicity that shamed the so-called supremacists into submission.

Governor Wallace and his armed police were defeated hands down. Southern Nigerian human rights activists, I hope you are taking notes. You may soon need these strategies in this struggle against the moves to establish grazing reserves in the ancestral lands meant for future Southern generations yet unborn.

Food for thought: Mushrooms taste just like meat. Try it.
