This kind of crap can happen to any misguided devoted moslem youth. Even to me back in the days. Thats why a great deal of us are rushing into churches. Its not because theres anything special about churches, but you see this sense of fulfilment and happiness around Christians though they dont run the country. Though they dont take the lion share of the nations oil wealth. Christians dont tell you about hell fire everyday, and they dont depress you with those "Dont Drink", "Dont Bang a sexy chic or you are doomed poo", and they dont make their followers lives miserable like these moslem Alfas have successfully done.
I dont know, moslems keep blaming America and Israel for all their failings. We talk about the crusade (though extremely bloody, for crying out loud, that more than a hundred years ago). We blame the Christians for been ignorant while we cant even idenity our fundamental problems or issues,
Gone are the days when you see Islam, the religion of Tolerance. When, Moslems dont have a problem with been around people of other faith. But now, we have loads of sects. Tablighs. Etc. And we dont even feel at peace with oneanother. And hey, even down in the Central Mosque at UNILAG, we keep attacking oneanother over trivial and useless issues. God, this has to stop.
I wonder why the birth of a true, sincere, and knowledgeable moslem is as extremely hard as the birth of a true Nigerian. Atleast, im sure Christianity isnt as totally pathetic in this country as our religion has become.

muslims are a people who do not do things to gain other people's approvals. Muslims stand on what they believe in unlike other distorted religions. Try to differentiate this from aggressive acts and intolerance.

It has been said times without number that ISLAM IS AGAINST TERRORISM by MUSLIMS. but this doesnt mean that muslims have been treated well by the media. Double standards are used in judging terrorism and you all, out of bias say nothing about it.

I disagree with anyone comparing muslims with christians and how am i to even believe that the writer is muslim.

If the poster believes talking about hell and being warned against drinking and extramarital sex is depressing, then he better retrace his steps cos he does not want to hear the truth, one thing is for sure, Jesus(ASW) sure did preach them if they do not preach them in churches of today. I'm a muslim and am happy and fulfilled just as many other muslims. If a sect of people are misguided about the truth, it does not justify abandoning the truth. He has to be reoriented about Islam. Am also an ex-akokite and I did not hear or see any 'attacks' between sects except it just began. True, what happened to Farouk can happen to 'any other misguided devoted muslim youth' but every other thing he wrote is irrelevant to the topic.
Re: A Muslim Nairalander Responds To Farouk's Problems: What Do You Think? by Nobody: 10:17am On Dec 30, 2009
Ronke has said it all. If the poster believes talking about hell and being warned against drinking and extramarital sex is depressing, then he better retrace his steps cos he does not want to hear the truth, one thing is for sure, Jesus(ASW) sure did preach them if they do not preach them in churches of today.

Part of the poster's point are right but others smack of the ranting of an ignorant Muslim. I agree with the part that 'this kind of crap can happen to any misguided devoted moslem youth'. I totally agree with that. Some of our youths today who are just picking the deen tend to go too far if not rightly guided or apply wisdom. I know a person, a very brilliant chap that led the Lagos state SSCE in 1997, led the whole of Ife Engineering in his year one, but suddenly abandoned his studies and face religion only. He had issues with the authorities and later left the Uni. Such a thing, to me, is extreme. The same thing happened to Farouk, I think. He was said to be just a normal, devout Muslim when he entered UCL but when he got to year 3, he began to exhibit some extremist traits. I don't have any problem with his been religious, in fact I appreciate children of the rich that opt for the path of religion rather than womanizing around and oppressing with their father's posh cars as is common especially in the north. I read about his preachings in Kaduna, which are on normal Islamic issues, not political ones.
Here are some of his internet postings:
First post: 28 January 2005 [, ] I have no friend. Not because I do not socialise, etc but because either people do not want to get too close to me as they go partying and stuff while I don’t, or they are bad people who befriend me and influence me to do bad things.

As I get lonely, the natural sexual drive awakens and I struggle to control it, sometimes leading to minor sinful activities like not lowering the gaze. And this problem makes me want to get married to avoid getting aroused [, ] But I am only 18 [, ] It would be difficult for me to get married due to social norms of getting to the late 20's when one has a degree, a job, a house, etc before getting married. The last thing I want to talk about is my dilemma between liberalism and extremism [, ] How should one put the balance right?

February 5, 2005 [, ] I get lonely sometimes because I have never found a true muslim friend. I'm active, I socialise with everybody around me, no conflicts, I laugh and joke but not excessively. I will describe myself as very ambitious and determined, especially in the deen. I might sound boring, but if you want to know more about me, just give me shout.

May 9, 2005 [Responding to a post about the Westernisation of some children in Saudi Arabia] Don't expect the Saudi government to do anything that will stop this [,  ] Don't forget it is the government that allowed the US to come into the country to 'protect' them [, ] It is the government that allowed Haram Satellite TV to be broadcasted.

And there are stories even that the Princes drink alcohol themselves. Plus they are good friends with the American government. [, ] The Prophet (SWH) did say a time will come
when the leaders will be the worst among the people. Indeed this seems to be the time. There are so many pious Saudis out there and great scholars. But not only in Saudi, almost everywhere in the world now, we are ruled by the worst of people, tyrants. May Allah help us and guide us all, and establish for us good leaders who fear Him.”

It is obvious from those posts that he was God-fearing, ambitious and yearning to improve his deen, untypical of a silverspoon but unfortunately, he fell into wrong hands in Yemen and went to the extreme. How I just wish I meet this boy before this incident and advise him on moderation. I don't think it takes deep knowledge in Islam to know that suicide bombing or killing innocent souls by any form is not allowed in Islam.

To some extent, I also agree with the poster that we often overdo the blaming of America and the West for our problems.

Every other thing written up there by the poster, to me, is arrant gibberish, especially "Thats why a great deal of us are rushing into churches. Its not because theres anything special about churches, but you see this sense of fulfilment and happiness around Christians though they dont run the country. Though they dont take the lion share of the nations oil wealth. Christians dont tell you about hell fire everyday, and they dont depress you with those "Dont Drink", "Dont Bang a sexy chic or you are doomed poo", and they dont make their followers lives miserable like these moslem Alfas have successfully done".

I am a Muslim and I live a fulfilled life by the grace of God. If glossing over the truth somewhere is what attracts you to a set of people, then I'm afraid for him. In fact, I wish I can be hearing about hellfire and the evils of drinking and prostituting everyday, so as to make me fearful of my God and move away from sins, rather this talk of 'I want to buy this car, I want to build this kind of house I hear everyday'. The truth is bitter, but then it must be told. Our heart is naturally disinclined to hearing the truth. Therein lies the poster's problem.

There is a difference between talking about something and threatening one with it. Christianity is all about forgiveness and acceptance no matter who you are. Sometimes, it becomes difficult for christians who has been forgiven to accept that forgiveness. Islam threatens one with the consequences of immorality but refuse to teach its adherents the love of God. Our God is an embodiment of love and even though we preach against immorality, we are constantly reminded of His compassionate love. That is why Christians don't resort to stoning or violence to correct an erring fellow christian. We preach forgiveness so, the OP knows what he is talking about.

Re: A Muslim Nairalander Responds To Farouk's Problems: What Do You Think? by olabowale(m): 12:30am On Dec 31, 2009
Islam does not make anyone robotic. The truth about Islam is that you have a fully fulfilled life; participating in what is good and wholesome about life, while you have the full opportunity to seek forgiveness when you make mistakes. Thinking about evil and not doing it does not constitute to sinfulness in Islam, while the mere thought of it condemns you in Christianity!

For example on friday, you can engage in lawful worldly activities before and after Jumuah salah, even on the day of either of the Eid. Islam does not make a person a slave. Even approaching the salah is supposed to be in honorable manner, not rushing, not hasting into it.

If a person wants to abandone Islam because it commands against illegal sex, he/she should know that there is HIV/AIDS as evidential proof of the truth of the Islamic injuction. If a person wishes to abandone Islam because of prohibition of alcohol, he/she should not forget that many calamities, like rapes, accidents, etc do occur under the influence. A person who wishes not to be reminded of the certain disaster of Hell as consequence of evil does not belong in Paradise, for there is no better friend or lover than the one who advices against evil while directing you to what is good.

Islam stands firm, muslims should stand firm on truth wit it, regardless of how attractive evil has been beautifully colored or wrapped. Truth is bitter and always hard to swallow.

Aloy~Emeka, Islam is different from Muslims. Muslims should be judged by Islam and not the other way around. You know that already. As I feel sad about the who issue of Umar Farouk, I personally blame his father for not taking a stronger role in the life of his own son. My Allah forgive me if I am wrong in my opinion. A father who realises that his offspring is going against the grain of what is right, he should have gone many steps further than just stopping at merely reporting his son. I as a father will chase such a son all over the world, until I snatch him and get between he and evil. I would have to die first before my child will have such a free range to evilness! Again, Islam stands and muslims are the ones who should stand with it.

Slave of Allah, yes. Not slave of Islam, for Islam liberated me from al the schisms; the true Yoruba[ism], like the old man zikism!

So, emeka, i beg to differ because Jesus himself is a slave of god, just like me! And if you dare deny the slaveness of Jesus, you have to wager that you will finally grow spine and leave Christianity the moment I quote the verse in the Bible to support my statement!

Slave of Allah, yes.
This is a good distinction from islam, christians regard God as their Father (Rom 8:15) and now their Slave master. i think muslims need to move to this level of relationship with God.

You can google the verse yourself,I pasted it in my previos post here which has been deleted.

You don't have to think muslims should do something, islam isn't based on mere reasoning of just a person or a set of people, 'cos every stage in a muslim's life has been planned even before he was born.
We are proud to be slaves of God, continue being sons of God. My own God beggets not, nor is he beggotten, and for your information "lakum dinukum waliyadeen" Yours is your own religion, and mine is my religion! (Q109:6)

@poster :

Farouk Problem is a sad, sordid and shameful news altogether for a nation that has been struggling with tarnished and battered image. The fact that Nigerians are now being labelled “TERRORISTS” thanks to the young Mutallab and perhaps other Islamic extremists and fanatics in the making is not only a national tragedy but also a global dishonour.

The young Mutallab, a beneficiary of stolen wealth. His father is one of the people who looted the wealth of Nigeria. His father, Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Mutallab, is a billionaire, who own real estate around the world. Yet no one is asking how a one time minister and retired First bank chairman amassed the millions of dollars to own houses in katsina, Abuja , Lagos , Yemen , UK , USA and other nations around the world. People are talking about his courage and bravery for reporting his rebel and prodigal son to the CIA at the US Embassy in Abuja for his religious fanaticism and extremist terrorist tendencies.

In all honesty, Islam should be eradicated. Islam is the reasons why we have all the problems we have in Nigeria.

Nigeria is now labeled a “TERRORIST NATION”. Thanks to Farouk Muttalab (A devout muslim).

For some years now, as a nation we were dealing with the battered image due to drug peddling, prostitution of young girls, 419, credit card forgery, human body parts trafficking and all sort of illegal and illicit ways of survival thanks to Ibrahim Babangida – aka IBB (A devote muslim). During his 8 years rule 1985 – 1992, corruption rose to all time high and his governors and senior government officials looted the national treasury. His SAP agenda, which was later known as “Suffer and Perish” had such devastating effects on the economy and severe consequences on millions of Nigerians. IBB institutionalized 419, corruption at high levels and plundered the economy. In fact the era of IBB led to the beginning of the moral decadence and purposeless society that we have today. The depth of corruption and social degradation led to moral decline, ethical and spiritual decadence at all levels in our society. His economic agenda destroyed the Naira and basically rubbished the Nigerian economy, which actually elevated greed, bribery, and corruption. Naira was devalued and a dollar could buy 100 Naira at that time. The quest for dollar and foreign currency motivated many young Nigerian girls into lucrative prostitution overseas mostly in Italy , Holland , France , and Switzerland through an uncontrollable ring of organized prostitution of young Nigerian girls that were taken to overseas for such old fashion trade in the early 1980’s. His administration did absolutely nothing to stop such organized crime against the reproductive resources of our country. That era of unbridled greed and sexual pervasion led to social and moral decadence we see in our country today.

Where is the Vice President of Nigeria, since the President is currently bedridden in Saudi Arabian hospital (Thanks to Islam, since he refuse to resigned)? Where are the leaders of national security agencies? Where is the minister of Aviation, an industry that is comatose thanks to the pandemic corruption at the highest levels that put Nigerian Airways out of business? What steps are being taken to fully investigate the Mutallabs and actually figure out if these are truly Nigerian people or not? This country does not have leadership at all. What we have are ignorant, inept and bunch of cowards as leaders.

Religious ignorance, intolerance and violence(Thanks to Islam) have been one of the banes of our nation’s development. Religious conflict and violence have been a big problem in Nigeria and a major threat to the security, unity and national progress of Nigeria. Religious ignorance and intolerance breed violence. Religious violence has decimated more lives in Nigeria in the last 40 years than hunger, disease, and accidents combined together. Nigeria has been a battleground between Islam, Christianity and traditional religions. Since 1960, Nigeria has had some many incidents of religious extremism and Islamic fundamentalism in their attempt to Islamize the nation. We have had religious riots in Jos, Kano , Maiduguri , Kaduna , Sokoto, Bauchi and other major Northern regions in which thousands of Christians were killed, their businesses looted and their property worth billions of Naira destroyed. Many of us still have vivid memories of the dastardly and despicable rash of rampage and violence in the major cities of the Northern Nigeria being carried out by Islamic fanatics and fundamentalists.

In 2003 when Nigeria had a rare opportunity to host the Miss World contest, a young and talented journalist wrote an article jokingly saying that if Prophet Muhammad had been alive, he would have chosen one of the beauty queens as wife. The Moslem fanatics took that as an excuse to carry out their carnage on Christians in the Northern states especially of Igbo descent looting their business and destroying their properties. That ignorant and irrational rampage led to the loss of over a thousand precious lives and Nigeria missed the unique opportunity to showcase her to the world. The Miss World contest was moved to London , England , and Nigeria was denied the economic and business opportunity to attract foreign investors. Off-course the perpetrators of the heinous violence went scot-free.

In 2004, not even a year later the Islamic religious extremists again went on another rampage in Jos and Kano over a controversial cartoon which was drawn by a Danish cartoonist and published in Denmark and other European countries that sparked peaceful protests in Iran , Turkey and other major Arabic countries. The cartoon in question was not drawn by a Nigerian or published in any Nigerian newspaper or magazine, yet the Nigerian Islamic adherents and fanatics jumped on that occasion to kill their Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria . Even the worst violent protests in the major Arabic nations did not claim but a few lives and injuries but in Nigeria hundreds of Christians were massacred; businesses and churches were burnt to ashes. Also this time, the perpetrators got away with it and justice was not meted.

Even until today, we continue to read and witness these acts of rampage and atrocious extremism including the ongoing religious riots, vandalism and killings in Bauchi state between the Maitatsine, Boko-Haram and Kala-kato sects. These acts of vandalism, violence, and killings of fellow human beings compel one to question the teachings of Islamic faith and its adherents. Why such acts of violence in the name of Allah? The radical Islamic fundamentalists can go to any extreme to defend their questionable religious sect and beliefs. These acts do not portray the attitude and behavior of people who follow a true prophet and genuine religious leaders.

Our generation is doomed if courageous men and women would not stand up to fight the evil (Islam) hindering our nation building. Even though Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab’s attempted terrorist attack on U.S Flight 253 failed and foiled up, yet his terrorist attempt is a national tragedy and global disgrace for all Nigerians. Young Mutallab terrorist attempt is reminiscent of Richard Reid, who tried to destroy a trans-Atlantic flight in 2001 with explosives hidden in his shoes, but was subdued by other passengers. The Richard Reid, a British got a life sentence. I’m sorry for young Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, a Nigerian.

I think Islam should be eradicated. Islam have destroyed Nigeria and we have paid a great price as a result of trying of adopt this arabian way of life.

@Olabowale :

I know you will keep denying the truth about Islam, but Islam have already introduced itself as a savage, terrorist, satanic cult where stupidity reigns supreme and they only derive joy by murdering people.

What has happened now, will affect all Nigerians living in diaspora especially the ones that are carrying green passport. Nigeria horrible image has now been upgraded to the status of a terrorist country where they produce suicide bomber. Thanks to your suicide bomber brother Farouk Muttalab.

The reason why Nigeria is backward is because of Islam. It is sad but true

@poster :

Abuzola when are you going to follow the example of your brother Farouk ? Farouk your brother have upgraded the status of Nigeria to the status of a terrorist country.  Instead of admitting that Islam is evil, all you are doing is condoling and defending evil. Islam has destroyed Nigeria.

Hitler is not a christian you better go and read the history of Hitler very well. You ignorant Arrow.

How many times have you seen Christians kill muslims over Jesus or any little problems ? It has never happen and it will never happen.

It is always the muslims who are always killing and maiming people over Muhammed or very little things.

Islam is a satanic cult.
