A civil engineer who accepts to teach elementary science in a primary school because he cannot get a paid engineering job is an example of...

A. Structural unemployment
B. Disguised unemployment
C. residual unemployment
D. Frictional unemployment
Re: Hot Sit...economists Pls Help by vaxx: 9:46pm On Apr 24, 2017
structural unempolyement . it is defined as unemployment arising from technical change such as automation, or from changes in the composition of output due to variations in the types of products people demand. For example, a decline in the demand for typewriters would lead to structurally unemployed workers inthe typewriter industry.basically there is decline in civil engineering job

To the best of my knowledge, frictional unemployment can occur under three circumstances namely

1) A graduate who appears unemployed because he just finished his university education

2) Someone who is umemployed because he was sacked in his former place of work

3) Anyone who leaves his former job in search for a better one.

If anyone falls under these conditions then s/he is said to be unemployed frictionally. The answer to the question the OP asked can be seen in cased three.

You chosed Structural unemployment, but sincerely you are wrong because structural unemployment talks about the change in the structural composition of an industry.
For example, the case of structural unemployment is said to have occurred when there is redundancy in the 'video cassette ' industry as a result of introduction of DVD player.

Yeah, Frictional unemployment do with movement but structural unemployment is concerned with change of taste.

Phew.....thanks

am not an economist. am also not a novice. in reccession perioud a trainned photographer can become a farmer if that is the only hope of surviving. but all things equal why will a photographer become a farmer. remember the civil engineer guy can not get a paid job.

considering the fact that an engineer still need an extra training to teach...denotes structural unemployment

I'm a 300L student of economics and this situation is called underemployment, It is defined as the
condition in which people in a labour force are
employed at less than full-time or regular jobs
or at jobs inadequate with respect to their
training or economic needs.

The answer is A. Structural. Reasons. Nothing like disguise unemployment. Residual unemployment is a type wc deals with people who are not mentally and physically ok. Frictional or tech unemployment. Deals with recent increase in tecnology and labour been replace with machines.

Jare.. What u defined as frictional unemployment is structural unemployment
Re: Hot Sit...economists Pls Help by saintbillion(m): 9:26pm On Apr 25, 2017
Chidimercy:

Frictional unemployment is the unemployment that results from time spent between jobs when a worker is searching for, or transitioning from one job to another. It is sometimes called search unemployment and can be based on the circumstances of the individual. It can be unemployment that results from time a graduate finished school and d time it takes to get a job.

So d civil engineer picked up d teaching job but he is still termed unemployed because he is far under employed.. He will be looking forward to an employment since he is still looking forward to an employment as a new graduate. He is said to be frictional unemployed
What the hell are u defining? Mmmh do u knw the meaning of under employment? It's a type of unemployment wc occurs when an individual works at less than his full capacity so that his productivity is below the maximum. It's supporse to be Casual unemployment (jobs that aren't permanent). But A is d best obtion

am not an economics student but from my secondary school knowledge, i think this situation is called underemployment
Re: Hot Sit...economists Pls Help by signeddocuments: 8:57am On Apr 27, 2017
The correct answer is disguised unemployment,it is another name for under-employment.I ve taught econs for more than 8 years in a sec sch.you can check a good textbook to confirm.
Re: Hot Sit...economists Pls Help by bizmania(m): 11:41am On Apr 27, 2017
I'm an undergraduate of Agricultural Economics.
This situation is called 'underemployment' simply because the engineer is offering services below his expertise arising from the unavailability of gainful employment. Well, I don't know if another term for 'underemployment' is 'disguised employment' as pointed out by the Economics teacher above me (with eight years teaching experience).

If he's correct about 'underemployment' being same as 'disguised employment', then the answer is UNARGUABLY 'DISGUISED EMPLOYMENT'.
Re: Hot Sit...economists Pls Help by signeddocuments: 3:20pm On Apr 27, 2017
One of the major problems of the present educational system is over-reliance on teachers by the students.Students hardly consult textbooks or go online for research. I'm highly surprised that someone who offered econ in sec sch will find this simple question difficult. most students are just like ' let me just pass the exam and go my way'. the real knowledge is lost.people don't read academic textbooks nowadays. EPL, music,Betnaija, nairaland, etc has replaced the place of diligent research in most schools.
