I Love My Husband, I Don't Care If People Stare At Us - RCCG Pastor's Wife by JoelNkantaBlog: 3:16pm On May 14, 2017
A pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God and legal practitioner, Dele Taiwo and his wife, Doyin, whose wedding photos recently went viral on the Internet, share their love story with MOTUNRAYO JOEL
How did you meet your wife?

Dele: I have known my beautiful wife for almost a decade. We met in Ondo State. We were attending the same Redeemed Christian Church of God parish. When I saw her for the first time, I had no thoughts of her becoming my wife. My relationship with her at the outset of our friendship can be described as one that exists between a father and daughter. I would describe our union as divinely orchestrated by God, because she was not the person I intended to marry. While we were enjoying our father-daughter bond, I was in a serious relationship with another lady and she knew about it. Even after my relationship with the lady ended, starting a relationship with my wife never crossed my mind. That thought never crossed her mind too.

Doyin: I never thought I would get married to him. Even when God told me that he is my husband, I objected to His will.

How did the relationship progress?

Dele: Aside from it being God’s will, her love for God got me attracted to her. She is extremely passionate about godly things – that got me drawn to her, not her beauty. I finally decided that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her on January 2016. At that point, I no longer saw her as a daughter but my prospective partner. Though one of the things that got me discouraged about starting a proper relationship with her was the father-daughter bond we previously shared. I also thought about what people would say. But I had no choice other than to submit to God’s will. Honestly, when God told me that she is my wife, I struggled with His will. Immediately I succumbed to His will, I began to fall in love with her.
Doyin: I had to face reality; I couldn’t continue to run away from God’s will. I decided to embrace His will and enjoy my life.

How did you then approach her?

Dele: I told her what God told me concerning the future of our relationship and her being my wife. I also sought the views of my spiritual fathers before I approached her. Surprisingly, my request didn’t catch her unawares. All she asked for was some time to think over it. But God had already spoken to her too about it.

Doyin: After God told me that he is my husband, I kicked against it because of his height. I didn’t want to marry him. But I had no other choice but to allow God have His way in my life.

How long did it take for her to ‘think over’ your proposal?

Dele: It lasted for about three weeks. She then told me about how God had already spoken to her.

What qualities in your husband attracted you to him?

Doyin: I love the fact that he is godly. He has a caring heart. He is a loving husband. Though, the personal qualities he exhibits weren’t what attracted me to him. I believe our union is God’s will.

At what point in your relationship did you become less bothered about his height?

Doyin: The moment I accepted God’s will, but it wasn’t easy. At this point, I’m no longer bothered about his height.

How did her family react when she introduced you to them?

Dele: They objected to her decision. But if I were in their shoes, I would have acted that way. I celebrate my wife for standing her ground. Her family wasn’t in support of her decision to marry me. I understand how they felt. They were trying to avoid being stigmatised. Today, I can happily say that my in-laws love me. They have embraced me with open arms.

Doyin: My parents kept saying no. Their objection lasted for months. But when they saw that I was determined to get married to him and that our union is God’s will, they surrendered to His will.

How did your friends react when you told them you were planning to get married to a man of his height?

Doyin: It was my choice not theirs. But those who I told accepted my decision and celebrated my courage. Maybe some of them would have thought otherwise behind my back.

Were there times you doubted her love for you?

Dele: I never once doubted her love for me. When we began a proper relationship was when she was posted to Kogi for her National Youth Service Corps programme but we kept communicating with each other. The distance between us was not a problem because we already knew ourselves too well. Moreover, I know her as someone who is trustworthy. I had no reason to think she may have stopped loving me.

Doyin: My husband’s commitment to our relationship especially while I was observing the NYSC programme got me more attracted to him. He used to send a text message to me every morning and evening throughout the one-year service. He was consistent; he never missed a day. He always called me on the phone; his calls were frequent.

How long did your courtship last?

Dele: Our relationship started in January 2016 and we eventually got married on April 29, 2017.

There are reports of some men of your height who married women of their height. Did that thought ever cross your mind?

Dele: I believe God said my case will be different; he led me to a woman who is taller than me.

Were there disagreements throughout your courtship?

Dele: Even if we did, I cannot remember. I think we hardly had disagreements because we were always talking on the phone.

Who apologises first if you have disagreements?

Dele: I have no problem apologising.

Doyin: I always say sorry whenever I’m wrong.

How did you propose to her?

Dele: I told her that God has led me to her and that I want to spend the rest of my life with her.

Is he everything you have always wanted in a man?

Doyin: Aside his physical characteristics, he is everything I’ve always wanted in a man.

Do you feel shy when people stare at you both anytime you are out on account of your height?

Dele: Not at all, that is something I overcame a long time ago. I’m not bothered by people’s stares. I always say to myself, people cannot stand and stare at me forever. It is either I move away or they move away.

Doyin: I love my husband; I don’t care if people stare at us. I decided not to be bothered about his height a long time ago.

What memorable gift have you bought for her?

Dele: I am not sociable, but things I give her are spiritual gifts.

Doyin: He likes to buy me books. He knows I love reading books.

The photos of your wedding were all over the Internet. How do you feel about that?

Dele: I’m not surprised because whatever God does is always celebrated. When God says it is time for something, He makes the celebration beautiful and glorious.

When you were younger, did you think you would never get married because of your height?

Dele: I’ve known God (Click on the link below to read more)

.Godswill my fooot..

Churchy people always saying daft things. And they are probably daft cos they were born that way. And the inbuilt daftness made them churchy.

So it isn't that church made them daft, rather daftnesa made them churchy.
