Martins off to keep court date not doctor

Obafemi Martins left the Super Eagles camp after Tuesday’s defeat to Egypt, but only to make a court appearance before a judge in England.
Martins was reported to have gone to Germany to see his surgeon following complaints of persistent pain in his shin as a result of surgery last month.

But Super Eagles Media Officer Idah Peterside, who was quoted in the report, said in an SMS to KickOffNigeria.com on Wednesday night that the player travelled to keep his court appearance.

“Obafemi wrote a letter to the coach asking for permission to go to London for his court date that is coming up tomorrow and that he will be back on the night of the 15th to meet up the game on Saturday and he was permitted,” Peterside’s text message read.

Martins is scheduled to appear before a High Court judge to defend himself on charges of owing £300 000 to NVA management.

The case was first heard on November 19 last year, when NVA told Judge Richard Seymour QC that the former Newcastle star was ‘constantly overdrawn’, despite earning £75 000 a week.

Martins has disputed the claims, but missed an earlier court appearance in order to help his new club Wolfsburg play in the Uefa Champions League.

The hearing was rescheduled for January 14, and Martins risked having judgement given against him if he failed to appear before the judge a second time.

Kick off is more authoritative than FIFA.COM abi? Martins had wanted to quit the Nations Cup entirely. They had to beg him. Why didn't he take a cue from Shehata who dropped Abu Treka despite reports that he may be useful b4 the end of tournament? Or is it that Nigeria lack an assortment of attacking options? Its not all about the clubs they play for. Amodu is just not good enough. Support success. Denounce abscess.
