prof Charles soludo has proposed this before, but his idea was rejected.... SMH

The mistake Soludo made was wrong timing, don't forget he proposed that with redenomination just after introducing new polymer notes.

instead of these idiots to think on how to revalue the currency, by removing two zeros from the naira and bringing back the kobo.

There only thought is on how to loot the treasury.

A bunch of legislooters
Re: Senate Wants CBN To Convert Lower Naira Notes Into Coins by begwong: 6:37am On May 24, 2017
Mallam sanata, maybe 200 to 1000 naira notes should be converted into coins to make it impossible for your legislathieves from siphoning our common wealth!

You missed this, Soludo was advocating for revaluation and not devaluation in this sense. He wants the highest denomination converted to lower value. That is N1000 back to N100

When they have nothing to offer for Nigerian, they will create a chaos to make people confused and keep them lamenting while in the process they are busy looting our treasury! It shall not be well with them...

That is not what we need. It will automatically be the end of the denominations, nobody will spend the coins. Same they did to 1naira and etc. Senates and Reps should a bit mature and stop their grave digging game.

What a senseless motion from a malicious and redundant mind.i expect the house to re-introduce our coins in paper notes to enable inflation vanish perpetual.they always use UK as a reference point forgetting that we Nigerians need to destructively and constructively carry out some major undergroun work b4 raising to d apex which other foreign nations has attained.i still question the independentability of CBN Act in igniting superb proposal that will put the economy at par.The house has unjudiciously failed woefully in delivering the mandate bestowed on them.finally the motion or unproductive idea is too bad for Nig to adopt it

They should be talking of taking 200, 500 and 1000 notes out of circulation... any transaction that is more than 5000 should be done cashless.

Watch the Brit pounds The America dollar the Euro and so on. They never eradicate the coins bcs of its contribution to the economy. Once u take out the coins out of the currency domination the economy is dying n it began to lose its strength in the world market. The greedy politicians knew this but will never comment until now. I have visit the west Africa countries like Ivory Coast usin cfa u will detect that there money is of high value and prestige within there country.. the coins are just bedrock of economy of a country my opinion though

Nigerian Leaders ehn! They rarely use their upstairs. Since we prefer Paper Notes to Coins. Why not printing those Kobo on papers.

Bros...you do well....You see while this text book solution might be true for other countries....This will not work here...
The mentality of Nigerians is that coins are too much of a burden to carry....We have generations of Nigerians that have never used coins and will simply see it as a burden.

This same policy was what led to the disappearance of 50k and 1Naira....these two currencies used to be paper notes and there were products that we used to purchase at these prices.....immediately they were converted to coins.....retailers started rounding up the cost of their goods.

And people including banks even stopped collecting them for payment....this resulted in inflation.

Don't you wonder why we do not have goods priced like 52naira or N10:50k.....Because our people do not want coin payment.

I can bet you if you convert, 10, 20, 50, 100 Naira to coins that will be the end of them.

Nigeria is a unique country and it requires unique solutions, not text book bullshit.....

Our highest denomination should be #100. Not converting it to coins.
