The Rotimi Amaechi led Rivers State Government is for the first time in the history of the State connecting villages in riverine and coastal areas by roads and bridges. The Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi led Administration is constructing over 170 roads, 30 bridges and 4 flyovers as well as land reclamation and shore protection projects.

Governor Amaechi, assured them that before December, some of the ongoing projects would be completed, because a lot of them have achieved 70 percent completion, pointing out that the major problem that hampered road construction was this year’s heavy rains, expressing the hope that  with the dry weather, some would be completed.

The Governor said contract for the Trans-Kalabari road which was earlier cancelled would soon be re-awarded to a more competent contractor

One of the road projects also  in the State today is the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity road project. This project will link communities in Ogoni, Andoni and Opobo Local Government Areas with a total of 10 bridges. The project when completed will enormously increase the pace of development in those areas and greatly reduce rural-urban migration. It would also boost the tourism potentials of the historical town of Opobo.

Another is the Okirika Ring Road Bridges where three bridges are being incorporated into the road project at different points for easy access. The bridges are located across Koko Creek, Amanongobiri and Ederemebiri.” Iyofor added.
Many other bridges are being built by the Amaechi administration to enhance mobility to and from different parts of the state, particularly in the rural areas. “There is the Orashi Steel Bridge being constructed at almost N1.3billion. This bridge when completed will connect all communities on both sides of the Orashi River.

Governor Amaechi’s spokesman also stated that, “In Khana Local Government Area, a N1.1 billion bridge is being integrated into the ongoing Nyor Khana-Ken Khana link road, to link Luwaa to Bere town. We also have a deck-on-pile bridge being built at Bori Boue in Kono Town, Ogoni land.”

Iyofor further listed other notable bridges being constructed in the rural areas to include, the Ndoni bridge, Mbiama Akinima road bridge, Isu bridge along the Okehi/Omerelu road, the Agba Ndele bridge, the Gio-Kpogho-Wakama road bridge, Abalama Tema bridge, Ikuru Town Atlantic Ocean Bridge in Andoni LGA, the Ihuowo Ihuama-Okoma bridge amongst others.
