Mrs Efunroye Tinubu was the first nigerian woman to buy a car.

She was born in Abeokuta
in 1805 (211yrs ago). She was a wealthy slave trader and sold many slaves to the Europeans.

Since there was no
currency in Nigeria then, she exchanged about 500 slaves for
a car in 1834.

She leased the car out to the whitemen in
Lagos and never drove it for one day ( this gave Fela's mother Funmilayo Ransome Kuti the chance to become the
1st woman to drive a car about 100yrs later).

Efunroye married Oba Adele of Lagos in 1835 after the death of her husband.

Adele died in 1837 making her a widow for
the second time.

She installed Adele's son, Oluwole as the oba and married his chief security
officer.

Oluwole died and she
install her own son.

Efunroye died in 1887 at the age of 82yrs.

She later fought against slave trade when she knew what the whites did to them. Fought against colonialism and was exiled. There is a reason why the people named Tinubu Square after her. If she was bad, they would not have done that.
