Residents Of Unity Estate Counting Losses Following Govt Demolition. by HopeAtHand: 11:03pm On Jun 06, 2017 |
Residents of Unity Estate at Eneka community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area are counting their losses following the demolition of their houses by agents of the Rivers State Government. Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR visited the site after the demolition on Saturday and reports that dozens of families have been left homeless as a result of the action. One of the victims who gave his name as RONALD PEPPLE said he lost everything he owned in the demolition. PEPPLE also wandered why such action was taken against them, since there was no warning and no information about government’s link to the land. On his part; another building owner in the demolished estate, GABRIEL OLUWAROTIMI wandered how the Rivers State Government would claim ownership of the land after granting approval for them to build in the area. The Eneka Unity Estate land owners are demanding compensation from the Rivers State Government, while the Commissioner for Urban and Regional planning, CHINYERE IGWE has not been forthcoming with any explanation. http://www.todayfmlive.com/news/item/5809-residents-of-unity-estate-counting-losses-following-govt-demolition.html 1 Like 1 Share

Heard people lost their buildings because of a proposed GRA phase 9. It is wicked to cause this kind of hardship, especially with this economic climate. Myndd44;Lalasticlala. Wike is becoming a tyrant by the minute. 2 Likes 1 Share |

May GOD return back to the victims financial ability to bear the loss, what I don't understand is that their is no response from the government and if there had been a plan to use the place for something else in the master plan why allow the people to build on it and open up the place for you before going to destroy the place. In this hard economy while will government be wasting people's hard earned economy. Are you building on a swampy area, want to do pile foundation /Need Roof parapet. Reduce the building load by making use of polystyrene material for your roof parapet and slab. This is disheartening, but then we may not blame the government because that may be a "committed" land. Be careful how you spend your life's saving on acquiring a land. Ensure you carry out thorough investigation with your surveyor and lawyer, it may cost you more but in the end you'll find rest. Am a victim of this man inhumanity to man, as a matter of fact the commissioner for Urban development in rivers state is incompetent and should be stripped of his post. He claims to be a lawyer by profession and he doesn't know the legal process of evicting people from their property. I wouldn't want to say bad of the governor as regard this issue pending when he will act. But one thing is certain, Rivers state government is in for this and will pay heavily for their misconduct. because it is not heard anywhere that you will get approval for your building from a government agency and that same government will be the one to come and demolishe your building without any prior notice. 5 Likes 1 Share |
