Two mini water works that have the capacity of producing 130 million gallons of water per day were yesterday commissioned by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN).

The water works located at Magodo and Mende- Maryland serve residents of Onigbongbo, Kosofe and Ketu Local Government and Local Council Development Areas.

The governor described the development as the commitment of the country towards responding to the need of the residence, adding that for effective utilization of the potable water schemes, reticulation of pipes had been carried out covering about five kilometers in each of the zones that the schemes would serve.

Fashola disclosed that seven others had been completed and would soon be inaugurated while another seven would be completed before June this year.

"On the successful completion of all these 15 mini water scheme projects, they would be providing residents of the state with 30 million gallons of water per day,’’ he said.

The governor added that this was a short plan to solving the immediate water problems of Lagosians adding that their medium plans were to resuscitate the Adiyan and Iju water works.

He attributed the challenges of the schemes to lack of constant electricity supply adding that a 12.5 megawatts power supply had been installed while the contractors are working on the gas pipeline installation.

He added that the long term solution was to privatize the Odomala in Epe and Adiyan water works projects as a way of involving the organized private sector in its operations.
