MetaPhysical:Everything in history is a function of time, unfortunately our lifespan is too short to have a grasp of the trend. How many people today, remember Arabs sacked Romans in Jerusalem and ruled it for close to 1000 years? Over historical time, boundaries are very fluid. How many yorubas or Igbos know they were once together as a tribe? How many of us remember Spain was ruled by Arabs for over 800 years? Spain was known as Andalusia. So, the events of Ilorin and Old Oyo are roughly events of 200 years. They could be reversed in the course of time peacefully or violently depending on the sophistication of the coming generations. We don't have to see the Fulanis in bad light. In the days of the kingdoms and empires, such was the order of the day, you either conquer or you're conquered. Similar thing happened in other parts of Yoruba land. When old Oyo collapsed, Benin empire began to make incursion into Yoruba land; Ekiti, Owo, Ondo, parts of Ijebu, and Lagos came under the sphere of Benin influence. As at today, those influences and reigns have been successfully rolled back without a gun shot. Yorubas are special people who think before they act and prefer to use their head than their strength. 23 Likes 5 Shares |

Furthermore, we need to know certain history to understand the complexity involved in the middlebelt. The Nupe for instance, were originally very much like the yorubas if not the same people before the arrival and subsequent intermarriages between them and the Hausa's. Their capital was in the southern part of Nigeria between present day kwara and Kogi. The capital was moved to Bida in the course of war with the British forces, so originally Nupe was a southern kingdom with territory covering much of the north. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Lange: Pls pls and pls, if you do not know deeply about particular issues , just keep quiet. Yorubas in Kwara (Kwara south especially) and Kogi have been clamoring for reunification with the South West Before even the independence of Nigeria in 1960 when even kanu's parent's were still teenagers. Neither do the Yorubas in the "North" feel "comfortable" or at home there like you purported. The Emirate in Ilorin was a classic game of thrones playout. Different characters and people played their roles, and at the end, the winners and the losers emerged. Al that is in the history books now. The people are still very much Yoruba. A referendum will be done by the people, and they will decide their destinies. So pls, stop appropriating credit to wrong sources or quarters. And also, stop talking bullshit. 14 Likes 2 Shares |

Markfemi2: What is there to "Return" in Kwara and Kogi Is it their property? The way some of you people reason is astounding. Those places are Yorubaland, and the people will join their kins in the West through popular vote. What is there to be returned by Fulani? is it for them? 15 Likes 1 Share |

Markfemi2: Oga, abeg which one be monothlic? lol Monolithic? All those places I mentioned are Oodua, so yes, it wis still monolithic, if that is what you want. I have noticed from your previous posts that you seem to be of this conviction that Ilorin is so far gone that it isn't that much Yoruba anymore. That couldn't be any further from the truth. Because if the people of Ilorin vote today in a plebiscite, they would vote to join the West in an 80-20 landslide. What more evidence of easy integration do you want than that. Mind you I am from Kogi state. 20 Likes 2 Shares |

9jakool:^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ I read from the historical books that Loke Oja [Lokoja] was purchased by the British for administrative use before 1900 and was the site where liberated African slaves where set free. The reason why many Yoruba towns were incorporated into the old Northern Nigeria is because Sir George Goldie said that area and other parts of the Middle Belt were within his area of trading influence. Other British officials like the Governor of the Lagos Colony had suggested that Ilorin and other Yoruba towns should be brought to their kith and kin in the South but George Goldie said the his charter for the Royal Niger Company covered those areas of Yorubaland up to Jebba, Ilorin, Kabba, Lokoja, etc. Parts of Ondo state used to be in Northern Nigeria, i.e., Akoko axis but people like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR fought to successfully bring those areas of Akoko to be administratively part of the Old Western Region. The former substantive Governor General of the Gold Coast and the Governor of Nigeria in 1942 - Sir Allan Burns in his book which was very popular for history and administrative use entitled: "History of Nigeria" first published in 1929, clearly stated on Page 33, Chapter 3 [4th Edition - 1948, which I have in my library collection right now] that Ilorin [population: 47,000] is one of the top 10 largest Yoruba towns, and the 10 Yoruba towns are among the top 11 largest towns in Nigeria! Kano a Hausa town being among the 11 largest towns in Nigeria with a population of 89,000 or the 3rd largest after Ibadan [387,000] and Lagos Island [126,000]. There is no need to fight over the ownership of Ilorin as official British documents clearly indicate it is a Yoruba town and today Yoruba is the lingua franca. Even those 2 major lineages with Fulani ancestry in Ilorin are actually mixed Yoruba/Fulani like you have Hausa/Fulani or Bambara/Fulani in Mali, Northern Guinea, etc. With the use of the British documents and with the aid of the UN, Ilorin, Jebba and indeed the entire 12 out of the 16 LGAs where the Yoruba own will become part of a new Republic when the time is ripe for the final peaceful split of Nigeria like the former Czechoslovakia and the former Soviet Union. No need to fight or kill anyone! It has to be an intellectual battle based on the side of local and international laws. Even those with the 2 so-called Fulani lineages with Yoruba ancestries are also cousins to the Yoruba so can be allowed to live peacefully with the original Ilorin Yoruba indigenes who constitute over 90% of the population in a new Republic of Western Nigeria (or some other name that will not give the Olugbo of Ugboland and his subjects in the oil and gas-rich Ilaje and Ese-Odo a headache like "Oodua" Republic) and a new flag! 4 Likes 1 Share |

Markfemi2: ^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ @Markfemi, @ AdeizaPaul is Ebira from Kogi and he is absolutely correct about the over 80% of Ilorin indigenes voting in a referendum to join their kith and kin in the West. Of course he gave an average of 80-20 and it will be more than 90% based on my post just directly above this recent post of mine. He was actually referring to Ilorin. Interestingly, Ebiras and Igalas and Idomas also have "Ade" as a prefix in their names just like Yorubas do. An Igala name is Adejo, just like Ebira has Adeiza. 5 Likes 1 Share |
