It is advisable to carry out routine screening if sexually active and take care not to have sex with a partner who complains of painful urination, genital sores or vaginal discharge until they are tested.

WHO has discovered, through data provided by two-thirds of the countries that report resistance data, that antibiotics of last resort no longer worked against gonococci bacteria.
