The school authorities banned “cooking” in the school hostel, and according to our source, this act was dubious because the ban was revealed after they had paid for the hostel accommodation fees.
However, according to the memo the ban of cooking was essential in order to forestall fire outbreak.

Under no circumstance should students cook in the hostels.This is essential to forestall fire outbreak and inconvenience to other students

That's what we are experiencing now at yabatech. the fire outbreak at bakassi hostel was an electrical fault.

Then they should build them a decent kitchen detached from the main hostel building

Yabatech is located in an urban area. Renting a room off-campus will be expensive for students. It's like asking Unilag students to rent a room off-campus. Yabatech isn't that far from Unilag. That area is urban and most students can't afford a room outside the school premises, that's if they can find one in the first place.
