I am not sidetracking ogbeni. I simply used my question to answer yours. If you can show me a thread where a single atheist did not hide behind science to rationalise their atheism or argue against religion then you have answered your own question.

Just one thread that an atheist here stated their irrefutable case without recourse to science that's all.

You asked for a thread where such a consensus was made without knowing that actions depict consensus which is why I used my question to wake up your mental process. Asking for specific wordings being made is blindness when Actions have spoken much louder than those words.

The altruistic ones do this because of the historical distortion they have been subjected to, and their inability to connect the dots to arrive at the truth of history, so rather than engage in foolishness, they'd rather claim to be 'atheists'.

Using science to justify irreligiosity is commonsense. Religion is justification for many foolish acts, it creates chaos, it suppresses reason, it divides families, it separates friends, religion (especially the organised one) is the justification for all kinds of evil.

A true black man, one who is mentally unshackled at this point in time is IRRELIGIOUS. What he needs now is to answer the question ''how did I get here'' and he will explode.

Because atheism is not a philosophical proposition, I find no need to wear my atheistic worldview as a badge. I tolerate the fact that the far majority of people I come into contact with everyday have one religious belief or another.
But what I cannot ever seem to understand is why Christians, who enjoy and relish advertising and promoting their own God /Jesus worldviews, actually seen to melt down into tantrums and convulsions whenever they encounter an atheist.

I have experienced this too many times, and have lost potentially good friendships with people of the Christian faith who are very very eager to preach their silly unsolicited stone age beliefs to me, but seem to go into convulsions when I reveal atheistic worldview to them.

Does it not mean that the entire edifice of faith and beliefs are built upon, based upon , and rely solely upon self- validations ?

Like I asserted in a recent thread, the entire edifice of religious belief and faith , gods and saviours , relies on acceptance , and then shared acceptance of same by others.
God begins to die when people, people like me, begin to reject the notion.

I really want to understand how a Christian mind reacts when they encounter a live atheist. I have seen the same repeating pattern of disappointment, resentment and a complex that follows whenever a Christian forces me to assert my atheistic worldview.

Their reactions and subsequent attitudes towards me is proof that religious belief is like a psychological Ponzi scheme, whereby everyone feels or receives Validation when the person above or below you reasserts or revalidates the same nonsense that you believe as your primary worldview.
When someone, an atheist like me, Threatens to invalidate that worldview, then the entire psychological Ponzi scheme becomes at risk, vulnerable to dismantling.

I had an encounter with a friend yesterday, a religious nut, who had no idea that I was an atheist.
In typical fashion, he provoked an argument on religion, when I countered with facts, I could immediately see the melt down on his countenance. He couldn't stand the argument, because he had no facts, so he quickly disappeared. I know that that is probably the end of budding friendship.
But why, I ask ?

Why does he expect me accept and Validate his very very silly stone age beliefs, but melts down when I counter with facts based on hundreds of years of accumulated scientific knowledge ?
Isn't that proof that religious faith is based on nothing but mere wishful thinking ?
And that religious faith is simply the extreme version of DOUBTS , Doubts camouflaged by Fear ?
you really think they fear u?, lol, think again.

What aspect of religion do you despise?

What aspect of atheism do you despise?

I need both answers.

Religion:

1. Religion is one of the major causes of deep division in the human race - wars have been fought, millions have died and property/heritage destroyed

2. Religion is a willing tool used to control the mass and ripped them off their resources. Do you know how much Saudi Arabia makes from Haij per annum? $90billion. Do you know how much catholic church makes per annum? How about the Pentecostal Churches? They receive billions in USD per annum yet greater percentage of their members are living in poverty. (Least I forget, Federal Government of Nigeria waste our country resource sending people to pilgrimages)

3. Religion interferes with politics. We live in a country where a personality like Osibanjo can't be president because he is a Christian. A Christian won't vote for a Muslim-muslim ticket and a moslem can never vote for a Christian-Christian ticket.

4. Religion causes underdevelopment: pull up the world Human Developmental Index and match it with list of most religious country. The reason is why religious nation like Nigeria relies on God to fix her issues, Nation like China are taking practical steps to fix their issues.

Atheism:

The only place I disagree with atheism is on the issue of spirituality. Man is a spiritual being and in our core lies God the infinite energy and eternal consciousness.

Plaetton, please I need to understand your position.

Are you just irreligious, or you do not accept the existence of order in the universe (order presupposes that the universe is guided and under control)?
Funny question.
So , it must one or the other ? cheesy

I am not just irreligious, but a bona fide atheist. I don't believe in the existence of a sky Papa.

Now, as per your second question.
Order or chaos depends upon what vantage point one views the universe.
If for example you lived near Jupiter or the Planet Mercury, all you would see is chaos.

1 So you are Okay with the fact that in the past 100 years alone atheist leaders in communist nations have been responsible for over 200million mass murders?

2. So you are Okay with atheists support for homosexuality, beastiality, sodomy, incest?

3. If you say religion is a tool for enslavement would you say atheism is liberation? If you say atheism is liberating why then do you complain about what you have been liberated from?

4. Religion began science. Development as you know it today was founded by the religious. Science rode on the back of religion. Do your research.

5. Religion never interferes with politics but if atheists have that as a complaint then they have themselves to blame because based on my reason number one above you can judge for yourself why people frown at atheistic leadership a lot.

If you could see nothing wrong with atheism except their aversion to mans spirituality then I see nothing wrong with religion as well.

You see nothing wrong with yourselves as atheists so I may as well not see anything wrong with the religious so we are balanced.

By the way I think your fellow atheists would laugh at you for believing that man is a spiritual being and that God resides in man as an eternal consciousness.

Based on this, can consciousness become conscious on its own or something brought about consciousness as the spiritual being you believe man to be (even though you are an atheist)

What is a sky papa (subconsciously, you even put CAPITAL P for the Papa)? Tell us what you mean by sky Papa.

Again, there is order in the universe, no matter the stand point from which you choose to approach it, this is the reason Jupiter will not crash into Mercury, and this is why we are able to calculate the trajectories of heavenly bodies correct to the second. Would this be possible without order? Would this be possible if the universe is in chaos?

Hear what Carl Sagan and John Lennon said

“Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality.”
― Carl Sagan

“I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It's just that the translations have gone wrong.”

I am not sure that it is a question of the fear of atheist’s I think it’s more subtle and deep-rooted than that. I see more of a self-righteous insecurity and that old chestnut, the safety in numbers rule allied with a certain degree of yearning for conformity, Christianity as it exists today is largely a collective acquiescence to belief in belief for its own sake. Most cannot carry the cross of Christ and walk in his shoes as required.

Many Christians will instantly point fingers to the relevant parts of their scripture that guarantees them eternal life but with each pointed finger they fail to see that it is themselves they seek to convince. Christianity has always been that way, it is a reactive religion from the days of the early church fathers, the entire redemptive nature of the Christian doctrine is based on refuting the accusations of others, the great apostle Paul himself on no less than four separate occasions was minded to protest ‘I am not lying', and was 'telling the truth' ‘before God’ clearly he was under pressure to justify his doctrine.

The entire religion was under pressure from its earliest inception, anyone who has studied the writings of Irenaeus (Against heresies) or even Justin Martyrs’ dialogue with Trypho will gain an understanding of the insecurities of early Christianity that persists till today.

Your topic is a fallacy of overgeneralization. It's accurate to say SOME Christians prefer not to argue with an atheist. But that your topic is an inaccurate bold statement. The fact that your friend dodged your attempt to engage in argument doesn't mean that's what every Christian will do.

In my own experience, atheists are afraid (or maybe jealous) of Christians that know what they're doing. An average atheist will resort to mockery or sarcasm when he encounters such Christian. Atheism in Nigeria only thrive in anonymous forums like nairaland. Some self-acclaimed atheist here still goto church.

I never said I was an atheist. I don't like labels but if one should label me the closest will be deism/panentheism. Maybe because the code in your brain is going haywire your have already labelled me one. Now in reply to your points:

1. I am not ok with the "fact" that some persons massacred people for whatever reason in the past. You also need to understand that atheism is not the sole reason for this. Religion, ethnicity, class, resources, politics... caused most of those massacres.

2. It doesn't matter whether I am okay with their support or non-support. As for LGBT and the rest, I don't like the act just the way I hate cigarette but I don't hate them (LGBT) just the way I don't hate my friends that smoke.

3. If I get your question, you are asking why I complain about religion. You can reread my previous response. As a reminder, I am not an atheist, I am a human being.

Why would you with one mouth say Nigerians are not matured enough to handle atheists yet you also went ahead to cite what you term as a developed nation like USA and also say atheists there are hated and discriminated upon?

If both in Nigeria (which you say is not a mature nation) and in USA (which is a matured or developed nation) atheists are still not tolerated does it not tell you that the alleged intolerance or discrimination you mention has nothing to do with development or a lack of it or maturity or a lack of it. It's simply a lack of tolerance first from the atheists that would bring intolerance back their way.

What you give is what you get. Give hate and you get hate back. Give intolerance and you get it back. Atheists are the architect of their own complaints.

#that is common sense.

We have good atheists and bad atheists. Likewise we we have good religious and bad religious people. Are we going to use the few action of some people to judge them all? That's exactly what you are doing. You can't say all Moslems are evil because some idiots decided to nuke people but you can't point out with facts that something is wrong with Islam the religion (opium of the masses). Those so called "few" have caused over 200million mass murders and counting in about 100 years and you say we should keep quiet?
Yet you say there is nothing inherently wrong with atheism? Why not try telling that to atheists who are nihilists or who are militant.

Nihilism is the belief that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated. It is often associated with extreme pessimism and a radical skepticism that condemns existence. A true nihilist would believe in nothing, have no loyalties, and no purpose other than, perhaps, an impulse to destroy.

And you wonder why we have atheists who believe that life is meaningless and say things like "life holds no purpose, we simply live and die so I see no reason to love or hate or condemn anything". A lot of atheists especially the militant ones believe man is just a chemical mix so nothing matters. We kill because we must and we do all other vices because we must. Afterall to them it's a part of the evolutionary process of the strong outliving the weak.

Dalaman spoke about intolerance being shown towards atheists in Nigeria and USA but most likely wouldn't mention the intolerance shown towards those over 200 million religious who atheistic communism murdered due to their intolerance.

Over the years militant and nihilistic atheists have given the entire atheist population a terrible PR image and rather than they looking inward to fix their own self made problems they rather shift the blame on religion and get all vocal and insulting on the religious yet they speak of intolerance when they receive same back. Afterall according to majek fashek " you don't expect to sow rice and reap cassava" "what so ever I and I Soweth in this world, so shall we reap".

It will be fun if I meat a live atheist. Those who behave somehow are those meeting atheist for the first time, unlike us on Nairaland who are used to hardcore and softcore argument.

Many times I meet atheist on Facebook I trash them like akintom.

I believed if an atheist see live miracle for the first time that will change him forever
Where is it?

They worship white scientists because they do not realise that the white scientists were trained by their black fathers.

There are no African Atheists, only confused, ignorant (historically distorted) irreligious black people

Religion has also made people act destructively. Nihilism isn't the only thing that makes people to be destructive religion equally makes people to ne destructive. Read your bible and see how religion and God specifically called for the destruction of others on religious ground or because the worship other Gods. Even the religious that claim that life has a purpose are equally destructive just like the nihilist that believes live has no meaning. One of the problems facing the world today is radical Islamic terrorism and it is a religious based problem propagated by people that believe that life has a purpose but are also very destructive.

And you wonder why we have atheists who believe that life is meaningless and say things like "life holds no purpose, we simply live and die so I see no reason to love or hate or condemn anything". Just the way many theist also believe and kill for their God. Read the bible most of the Prophets and best people of God were mass murderers who killed and decimated cities and town purely for religious reasons. There is no difference btw Moses and Moa or Joshua and Pol Pot. All were mass murderers and while I can openly condemn and always condenm people like Police Pot and the rest you on the other hand can not condemn a mass murderer like Moses because you believe he acted on some Godly injunction. So many muslims are killing people today because they believe God told them to do that. Those that believe life has meaning and those that beieve life has no meaning have all shown tendencies to kill at same level. The US is the only country to ever use a nuclear weapon in a war that killed uncountable people but those that dropped the bomb and their comanders were all theist that believe that life has meaning. Most of the Nazi soldiers were even christians but they ended up killing 6 million Jews.

Dalaman spoke about intolerance being shown towards atheists in Nigeria and USA but most likely wouldn't mention the intolerance shown towards those over 200 million religious who atheistic communism murdered due to their intolerance.

A lot of those killings weren't done in the name of atheism but but for many other reasons. Moa for example starved like 20 milion people for political reasons. Those guys killed anybody that stood in their way regardless of religious status they killed many athiest as well. I condemn them and their acts totally, but that doesn't mean that religion has not enticed people or made them to fight wars. As I said if you read some religious books like bible and koran you will see where people are told and ordered to fight specifically for religion.

Over the years militant and nihilistic atheists have given the entire atheist population a terrible PR image and rather than they looking inward to fix their own self made problems they rather shift the blame on religion and get all vocal and insulting on the religious yet they speak of intolerance when they receive same back. Just the same way that militant and radical religionists have given religions bad names and cry and wail.when given a state of their own medicine.

Your very first words and the application of the word " ALSO" shows your confirmation of my words. The rest which you wrote was just a very sad attempt to clean an already ingrained filth below the surface of a plate by vigorously trying to clean the surface. cheesy

Your attempt at laundering the image of atheism failed right from your very first words which I made bold.

Thank you for the affirmation! grin

You have no sense at all. The difference btw me and you is that I can agree that some atheist acted destructively because they were athiestand condemn them for tha. You on the other hand will lie, spin and twist the reality that your own religious book is filled with violence and even promotes mass murderers and child rapist that arw not different from the atheist you love to cite as the best of men and prophets in the eyes of your God.

You did not have to resort to name calling simply because you played yourself without any assistance from me whatsoever! cheesy

Now you talk about the bible and it's contents when you already told me that the bible and it's contents are not real!

Dalaman you will not force me to stoop to name calling today because I know that is what you would enjoy.

The fact remains you played yourself. Next time proof read before you post. Anger and this your burning zeal to always respond quickly to anything will remain your nemesis.
