Change Of Name In Nigeria by ADSDIRECT(f): 9:56am On Oct 06, 2017
Getting a new name in Nigeria is pretty straight forward. There are very few paper works involved, It doesn’t require a lot of processes, neither is it as stressful as we might have been made to believe.
For the sake of this article , I’ll classify the reasons people change names into two categories.
1. For Marriage purposes
2. Other purposes.
As a married man or woman, the legal document you need to change your name, is your marriage certificate given to you by the court or any of its affiliate.
And if you belong to the “other” category, you’ll need to get an affidavit, a signed document of affirmation that can be used as an evidence in court that you’ve changed your name. To get an affidavit in Nigeria, walk into any court around you, sign some papers and you’ll be done in no time.
With a marriage certificate or an affidavit, you can now go ahead to publish your “change of name” notice in a newspaper of your choice. This process is also required and has been made easy on Adsdirect.

On Adsdirect, you can upload a screenshot or PDF copy of your legal document (Marriage certificate or affidavit), select the newspaper of your choice, make payment and you are done. Easy peasy!
