hearing from one side when my friends mother told us what happened that night in the casino. She lived across the road in Yaba and wasn't allowed to go due to some domestic chores and saw the smoke column from the cinema and later visited the site. This is consistent with newspaper reports of the period. Yet you talk of one side? Very wicked and insensitive

Your friend's mother is lying. Produce the newspaper reports

Yet he wanted to be premier of western region, and became bitter when he lost out and was only placated whenever he was given premiership of the East. Pan-African indeed, why didn't he bid to be Ghana first president since you claimed he got them their independence?
He had enough common sense not to try that.
Yet he did not initially install TOS Benson or Ogunsanya Yoruba leaders in NCNC as premier in the east. He choose a native of the East. So there was no indegene good enough in his party to be premier? Thank God it never happened, I can imagine what Easterner will be saying today
.
The premier of the East was also a non-Igbo. He didn't WANT.to.be premier of the West. It was just the best platform from which to fight the British. The East was not. Also that's where he was based. The aim was independence, the British must go. GET THAT INTO YOUR THICK SKULL. The aim was not to be president or premier of anywhere.

It was 20 pounds not 10. And it was not Awo's policy.
A committee of learned economists and monetary experts recommended the policy. Awo was neither an economist nor a monetary expert, he was a politician.

Awolowo was the minister for finance that time, remove the politics outta this talk.

I actually think these were very great men, except maybe Ahmadu Bello, for his extremely divisive utterances. Awo didn't hate Igbos or anybody. I don't think he was even a tribalist as such, rather a pragmatist.

Awo is a pure tribalist.

Nigeria's problem started with the amalgamation of 1914.

We're still hurtling down the bottomless abyss of chaos since these two events.

How much effort did Unogo put in to ensure Zik become the first premier in the North he hails from and the birth region of Zik.

You don't see the absurdity of a northerner crying the west did not allow his eastern boss become premier

Substitute what Zik said to ibos with Sardauna saying same thing about fulani to an arewa gathering and tell us you agree with him as a Nationalist.

Am sure you join to condemn Sardauna for saying they intend to dominate the south by dipping Koran in the sea, bunch of hypocrites

[i] Oh that Sardunna's interview with the Bbc they call "hate speech" towards the ibo hence the Jan 15th coupists had to snubbed the man's life out.

Same speech was made by Akintola around 1964 wherein he was sentising his yoruba people of the domineering and greedy nature of our so called brothers, east of the Niger river. Consequently, Akintola too had to suffer the same fate as the sardunna.

Akintola's campaign speech is on youtube and the guy layed bared their greedy propensity.

In fact, this was what made Akintola to run off north and form alliance with the NPC thereby losing the monopoly the ibos had in the public service ............[ /i]

My friend, here are things we know for a fact (every other thing is lies, conjectures, twisted truth, innuendos):
1)Awo was thinking tribe right from UK (started Egbe Omo Oduduwa)
2) If Zik were thinking like Awo he would have started "Nzuko Umu Ndiigbo".
3) But the last thing on Zik's mind was Igbo. He started his revolutionary activities in US focused on Africa and black people, not Igbo.
4) Zik started a newspaper in Ghana with which he helped fight for Ghana's independence: WEST AFRICAN Pilot. He later brought it to Nigeria.
5) Awo started a paper a decade later focused on Ibadan called Tribune
6) Zik was born in Zungeru, was based in the West and spoke all major Nigerian Languages.
7) Awo was born in Yoruba land, based in Yoruba land and only spoke Yoruba (besides English)

HOW DARE YOU COMPARE THESE TWO PEOPLE??
HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!

Azikiwe was a chamelion..the pioneer tribalist..read this...

Dmitri van den Bersselaar
split between Azikiwe and the NYM. Although th
is struggle was mainly over personal and
local issues, and not about ethnicity, Azikiwe's
West African Pilot
began to present the NYM
both as Yoruba and as the political enemy (see
illustration). The
Pilot
showed similar hostility
to the Yoruba cultural organization Egbe Omo
Oduduwa immediately upon its formation in
1946,
33
repeatedly portraying the Egbe Omo Oduduwa
not so much as a cultural organization,
but as a vehicle for the NCNC's political
enemies; enemies who happened to be Yoruba.
34
The
Daily Service
accused Azikiwe and the
Pilot
of ethnic stereotyping and stimulating ethnic
tensions, pointing out that `Before the advent of
Dr. Azikiwe on Nigeria's political horizon,
there was hardly any trace of
anti-Yoruba feeling among the
Ibos. The virus of tribal
aggression was injected
by the learned Doctor.'
