Yet again, Nigerians stick their heads in the ground and refuse to accept proof that their military is incompetent and failing in the war against BH.

How do they verify and info, when you can't talk to an imaginary resident.

"Boko-haram have taken over our communities" said Henry120 a resident of a town you've not seen (since you're in lagos), cannot speak to (since there is no mobile service in borno), cannot show a single photo to proof his village has been taken, since there are over 120 million mobile phone users in nigeria.

So stup1d can you get. How do they verify this ridiculous reports. How?

Is it impossible for a journalist to be in the region? Could they perchance be doing what journalists do? Speaking to people who have fled the region? Speaking to soldiers?

You do know what a journalist is right?

What would BH do to a journo they catch taking pictures in their territory?

This is truly pathetic.

Your argument is "i cant prove its false, so I will just make ridiculous demands in a (pointless) attempt to show its wrong"

Also, there is no mobile access in most of Nothern Nigeria.

Hundreds of people are suspected to have been killed in the attack, which took place earlier in the week. The Associated Press news agency reported at least 200 people had died, although some community leaders put the death toll at between 400 and 500. There is not yet independent verification because of the lack of communication in the remote area. Roads out of the region are extremely dangerous and phone connections are poor to nonexistent.

Maybe because they spoke to him face to face?

The story has been leaked by multiple sources

The worlds most respected news outlet the Wall-Street Journal has an article:

Boko Haram hoisted its black al Qaeda-inspired flag above the strategic town of Damboa in northeast Nigeria on Saturday, with an estimated more than 100 of the town's residents killed by the militant group since Thursday.

Damboa came under fire from rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns on Thursday, with a large number of residents losing their lives, according to a band of vigilantes tasked with defending the roadside town.

A chairman of the vigilante group, Abba Aji Khalil, said Saturday that at least 100 people had been killed and that this number would almost certainly rise.

The Associated Press cited a human rights advocate who put the toll far beyond 100.

Soon you'll see them capturing heavy equipment like tanks and more armoured vehicles.

They dont need to show us any images. I know this tactic, you Nigerians do it all the time:

"Prove this"
[thing gets proved]
"no no, we want [insert unreasonable demand here] as proof"

The fact remains, BH hold land. Confirmed by multiple sources.

There are pictures from the rest of the world as those are places where people have cellphones so video and pictures are easy to comeby. Northern Nigeria is a colossal sh1thole, and there are no phones up there. Hence, no pictures.

Show us a picture that shows BH do not hold that land cheesy cheesy

The military plays down its loss of Damboa, saying it will not concede any part of Nigeria to any insurgent group.
The spokesperson for the Defence Headquarters, Chris Olukolade, on Monday said the Nigerian military was preparing to embark on actions that would enable it to regain the Damboa area of Borno State, which it lost to the extremist Boko Haram sect.
Mr. Olukolade, a Major General, also said the military would soon reverse the current “insecurity manifestations” in the area.
Mr. Olukolade was reacting to questions raised by journalists concerning reports that members of the Boko Haram sect had taken over Damboa and even hoisted the flag of their organisation after dislodging the military and killed scores of civilian residents.

Raiding a town, burning it and running back into the bush is what SAn.s call capturing towns LMAO?. All BH do is ambushes and raids of undefended towns; as your link -@ patches- says the villagers dare not go,but the soldiers where preparing a counter attack. The Nigerian army wishes for BH to all assemble and hold a town so we can send them to the grave.
Concerning loans; we haven't gone for it yet,and even if we did we won't be running debts like the loan force that is SALOANDF.I may not be an accountant but it seems the repaid amount is only 68% of the original drawn loan not including the interests.
And if we decided to go the loan route we would be a far more powerful force than the SALOANDF. cheesy

July 7/14: Review. South Africa’s own 2014 Defense Review process confirms the ongoing thrust of this article, even as it tries to lay out a 4-phase, 20-year plan to restore military effectiveness:

“According to the Review the SANDF is in a critical state of decline, is unsustainable and prime mission equipment, especially in the landward force, faces block obsolescence. “Ammunition stocks are depleted, infrastructure is falling apart, skilled staff is leaving and the arms of the various services operate in silos and are unable to manage basic procurement, which is centralised and run by the deputy director-general in the Defence Secretariat.”

South Africa’s ISS think tank adds an illuminating regional comparison:

“A recent report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) confirms fast-growing Angola, long considered South Africa’s only potential rival in the southern African power stakes, already spends about 50% more on its military than South Africa in absolute terms – and Algeria almost three times…. “Neither country has the political ambitions of South Africa nor its pretences to continental leadership and imposing regional stability.”

A professional Army that is properly trained, funded and provided the right weapons offers a strong defense for a country in the time of military conflict. Just having this army makes other countries that are considering invading think twice and consider if they are going to win the war or lose a large number of soldiers and cost themselves a lot of time, money and reputation. Having an army for defensive purposes also allows a country to mobilize and help another country in times of military conflict, as these soldiers can also be used to fight other wars in different places around the world.

South Africa’s failure to successfully engage some of Africa’s most troublesome conflict zones has undermined the country’s credibility and cast doubt about whether South Africa should be perceived as the continent’s regional military and political leader. Ineffectual leadership is at the heart of the matter. President Zuma has made some dubious decisions regarding South Africa’s regional foreign policy, and his inability to meaningfully address the plethora of domestic problems facing the country raises question about its suitability as Africa’s de facto leader.

In spite of its own domestic challenges, Nigeria appears better suited to assume a position of future leadership going forward. While South Africa attempted to push for a power sharing government in Ivory Coast and was slow to unfreeze the assets of the National Transition Council in Libya, Abuja acted swiftly and decisively in both cases. Nigeria’s success in helping end the conflicts in Sierra Leone and Liberia have also given it clout in terms of finding solutions to regional conflicts. In recognition of its growing leadership role, Nigeria recently won the backing of the African Union to once again become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

South Africa would do well to make itself more visible as part of UN peacekeeping missions, especially now that Nigeria has announced it is pulling many of its peacekeeping troops out of Darfur and Mali in order to tackle the Boko Haram insurrection at home. However, facing mounting pressure at home and given the pending 2014 general election, it appears unlikely that President Zuma will commit significant troops — even to AU and UN-backed peacekeeping missions — in the near future. The true test of whether South Africa will be able to reach its potential as a political and military leader in Africa will depend on its ability to successfully address its mounting domestic issues while implementing a foreign policy that is not at odds with its own stated objectives.

Nigeria would be engaged in multipartite civil war like it happened in Lebanon in 1975 and Somalia in 1991 before its final disintegration in 2030, a report by the United States military experts released by the Centre for Strategy and Technology, Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama has said.

The report written by five US military scholars and entitled “Failed State 2030: Nigeria - A case study” and dated February 2011, is one of the many periodic scenario building analysis undertaken by the US military think tanks on the future of countries within the sphere of economic interests of the US.

One of such simulated security dissertation on Nigeria was released during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo by the US National Intelligence Council, where the US intelligence experts predicted Nigeria’s collapse in 2015.

In the 156 page latest report, the US Air Force officers posit that “Nigeria’s lack of unifying national identity, history of corrupt governance, religious and cultural schisms, and shifting demographics may cause the state, over time, to break apart.”

In the case of Nigeria in 2030, the experts believed that Nigeria’s “history of tribal and religious conflicts, endemic corruption at all levels of government, poor national planning, uneven development, social disorder, rampant criminality, violent insurgency, and terminal weak governance provides an environment that could portend imminent collapse and failure.”

The landscape that stretches away from the serpentine border separating northeastern Nigeria from Cameroon is arid, barren and very difficult to defend.

Which is why Malo, a corporal in a Nigerian mobile police unit, and his fellow officers were glad to see a convoy of reinforcements unexpectedly show up where their patrol was resting earlier this month, near the border village of Gamboru.

Then the reinforcements, which included army-issue armored cars and heavy-caliber weaponry, began shouting ”Allahu Akbar!” and opened fire; 13 police officers were killed in the ambush, Malo told VOA in an exclusive interview.

Their bodies rotted in the hot sun for three days. The bogus reinforcements, he said, were Boko Haram militants.

A former Head of State, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has scored the Nigerian Army low in the fight against the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in North-East Nigeria.
Buhari, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, said there had been series of complaints that soldiers collect bribes at check-point and rape women during operations.

He spoke on the Hausa service of the Voice of America, monitored in Kaduna on Wednesday.
