On second thoughts, irrespective of Nigeria police failings in the North East, Fulani, kidnapping, oil-bunkering ,bribe taking and so on it was lazy to place Nigeria police competency below many of the Nations ranked ahead. Majority of world police share corrupt practices in common with Nigeria police but do not share half the challenges faced by Nigeria police, including low pay and atrocious living conditions . In addition to the ones mentioned before, Nigeria police even has to deal with international piracy. On the other hand,Nigeria police serves with the UN, keeping order and training the police forces of nations throughout Africa, from Liberia, Sudan to Somalia. Nigeria police force has much work to do to be fit for purpose in Nigeria but does not deserve the ranking attributed it on the table. Perhaps it was an Indian behind these rankings, in any case someone who watched too much television, including The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, which was set in Botswana. |
