bravoluv83:
The Joint Action Committee has directed the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions and National Association of Academic Technologists to resume strike on Monday.
A letter to all the branch chairmen titled, ‘Directives to immediately resume the suspended strike,’ was signed by Samson Ugwoke, SSANU, Chris Ani, NASU and Sani Suleiman, NAAT.
The JAC had claimed that only a ‘pittance’ was given to the three unions out of the N23bn ‘earned allowance’ released by the Federal Government to the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The union complained that the government failed to explain how the money was shared between ASUU and the non-academic teaching staff unions.
The strike notice read, “Please, recall our last correspondence to you in which we informed you of the letter written to the Minister of Education rejecting the allocation made by the office of the Permanent Secretary and signed by the PS himself.
“In the said letter, the Federal Government was given seven days to explain the criteria for the said allocation and do the needful. The deadline has elapsed without any response from the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“In view of the above therefore, you are hereby directed to resume the suspended indefinite strike action as from 12 midnight, Sunday, 3rd December, 2017.
“During this period, the strike shall be total and comprehensive.”
When contacted for reaction to the claims by the union that they were cheated in the disbursement of the allocation, the ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said he was on the road and requested our correspondent to call back later.

Pls correct your headline. Its not ASUU o. It is the non academic staff that are on strike pls. Don't deceive people.

Re: ASUU To Resume Indefinite Strike On Monday by ChiefS(m): 10:11am On Dec 04, 2017
ASUU IS NOT ON STRIKE. ASUU IS THE ONLY UNION FOR ACADEMICS IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES. The headline is misleading.

It is better not to comment on something you are ignorant of.

Because you're not aware that most lecturers are senior staff (SSANU)

Academic staff members are not in SSANU! SSANU is purely a non academic staff body for only senior staff in all sections of the university.

What sort of a sourceless misleading thread is this? I thought Nairaland mods should be wise enough to verify threads before posting them to FP. ASUU is not on strike. If they were, it would be announced via a press briefing, not through an interview, sms or whatever.!

OP and the silly mods, be guided!

ASUU IS SELFISH, WICKED, IRRESPONSIBLE:GOVT. MUST DECIDE TO CALL THEIR BLUFF.
this group of people that call themselves ASUU have been the cause of the constant industrial unrest in the university system since 1992 under the administration of IBB. then they asked for a separate salary table and got it. they say there is none like them. they claim to be the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the alfa and omega. they brought so much division into the university community. they call the other staff supporting staff forgetting that the roof cannot exist without the pillars. the foundation is first laid, the pillars and columns put in place before the roof is put in place. i have not seen where a roof is hanging without the foundation, the pillars and columns. and so in the university system, the VC (who in this case becomes an administrator) is the first person to be appointed together with the registrar, the bursar etc. this three together begin to run the university and begin to appoint other staff (teaching and none teaching) and then the students begin to come in. as soon as the university is being established, the establishment, bursary, admissions office, security, maintenance etc come into effect for the smooth running of the university. without these units , there will be no university. these are the supporting unit that must be in place for the roof (ASUU) to come into place and function properly and effectively. when the ASUU man is sick, he needs the doctor firstly at the university health center. these professionals at the UHS are not academic staff yet without them, this ASUU man may pack up. yet the selfish ASUU in UI of a little over 1500 members will want to share #1.62B and on the average collect #1.1M while the doctors and other health professionals will hardly collect #25000 from their allocation of #105.7M for 4200 staff. the ASUU man needs security from this "supporting staff" (the security unit). yet he regards them as nobody when it comes to money. today we understand that AYOOLA (a pastor in mountain of fire and miracles) is going about with our security. they are needed by him but they dont deserve to be paid. they should have made lecturers to be security staff. they should have been treating water at maintenance, manning electricity, patching roads in ui, selling fuel at ui filling station, preparing salaries etc etc. WHAT a bunch of selfish, wicked, irresponsible, parochial people we have in the academia these days? their wings must be clipped. their bluff must be called off. until the white men left, there was only one salary table and every one found his level there. in their own time, they now have their own salary table where they continue to build in frivolous claims. they claim excess workload. if they are teaching excess students, then the other "supporting staff" are also handling excess students in the admissions office, bursary, security, hall of residence, laboratories, maintenance, libraries etc. GOVT must stop this fraud called EXCESS WORKLOAD. they claim PG SUPERVISION ALLOWANCE. is it not part of their job? meanwhile those of them in science based depts. cannot supervise without the technologists but they "chop" the allowance alone. these group of staff get grants from local and international bodies and spend it on big cars, houses, women etc and "cook" results and publish. students do projects, they publish them behind the students. that is intellectual fraud. hence at any citation on them, you will hear that the prof. has over 120 publications in local and international journals. you begin to wonder when such quantum of research was carried out. it is all fraud. those of us in the system know what they do. this group of people criticise govt a lot on corruption but they are most corrupt. they train the corrupt that are today in govt. they thought the MAINAS, the DIEZANIS, the GOODLUCKS, the AMAECHIS to name just a few. do you know that the lecturers teach in 3 to 4 universities at the same time while their main university suffers. they give better attention to the other universities to the detriment of their primary university. they earn salaries from different universities at the same time. hence they are vehemently opposed to IPPIS because IPPIS will expose them GOVT. should call their bluff and and stop all this. no man is GOD that can be in 3 to 4 places at the same time. this is the reason for half baked graduates. a man is employed in one place and now working in 3 to 4 places. how can he give of his best? GOVT must take the bull by the horn and stop this malady. it is nothing but fraud. it is corruption. GOVT must also stop this fraud called SABBATICAL LEAVE and ACCUMULATED LEAVE. a lecturer will take sabbatical leave once in 5 or 6 years. he goes somewhere else to be working. he will be earning full salary in two places hence he does not want IPPIS. we know that our teaching counterparts are hardly found around in the depts. yet they never agree that they spend their leave. the moment they find where else to go and work, they now say they are going on accumulated leave. sometimes they combine the two leaves i.e. sabbatical/accumulated and go and work in another place earning full salary in at least 2 places. GOVT must be bold enough to stop this. it is fraud. meanwhile this group of people that call themselves academic staff must understand that they are not the best brains even in the university system. they are not more brilliant than anybody. what they enjoy is just opportunity/privilege. it is just that their carrier progression requires a p.hd. but thank GOD some of us the supporting staff are beginning to earn our degrees/masters/p.hds. it is clear that they are not the only egg heads. some of them have 2nd class upper division, some lower division. majority of the first class produced in this country today go into the industries. are they not intellectuals. we also thank GOD most of their wives/wards are on our side (the none teaching staff, the supporting staff, the none intellectuals etc).today they scramble to get their wives/wards jobs as "supporting staff".some of their wives are primary and secondary school teachers/market women/petty traders. so what is this fuss about being academic. its just a privilege, an opportunity. thank GOD the word of God says it is not of him that wills or of him that runs but of God that shows mercy. again it is God that gives us power to obtain wealth. God's sun shines on all. His rain falls on all. the hawk should allow the kite and all other birds to perch on the same tree. any one that will not allow the other to perch must lose its wings AMEN. this wicked anomaly in payment of earned allowances must be corrected now or there will be no peace again in this system . sad enough some of our teaching counterparts are pastors and imams and when it comes to all these frauds listed above, they take part.
GOVT MUST CORRECT THESE ANOMALIES NOW OR THERE WILL BE NO PEACE, NO LOVE IN THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM HENCE FORTH.

sent as received.
