Timotee: In NM state, you don't have to circumvent anything. Your county will pay part of your outstanding medical bill if you submit the necessary forms. But may count against you when you need a new visa. |

imperiouxx: Thanks for your explanation. It seems like in this case, you qualify for the medical assistance program, and that is why they offered it to you. If you did not qualify, they probably would not have offered it to you. If you qualify for something and you make use of it, why should it stand against you in your future immigration proceedings? In addition, how will the immigration have access to your medical records (considering HIPAA violation) to figure that you received any assistance some time in the past? Does the hospital automatically put the assistance they offered you in your credit report, so immigration can trace it through your SSN? If you did not give the hospital your SSN, how would immigration learn of the assistance you received? |

yemiosinbajo: I may have qualified for it based on NM state law on poverty level but such I believe doesn't reach the embassy here in Nigeria. Don't forget that we showed large sum of money when applying for the visa and so we should be able to take care for our staying in US by ourselves. This is why I didn't submit those forms. Also, I only went to the hospital for a reduction in my monthly payment not for any public assistance. Any government assisted program that helps you to pay a bill or gives you aids etc is regarded as public assistant. Everything done in US goes into one's record, so I can't say things like that can't be pulled up if needed by the appropriate body. Lastly, medical bill is not part of hipaa and hipaa rules can be rendered insignificant by government. |

itsyourboya: Since your interview is on Saturday, your best bet will be to pay the SEVIS fee via western union. Payment will be acknowledged immediately and you can print out your payment confirmation/receipt. It may take up to 24 to 48 hours for it to reflect on their system though. |

Experienced guys in the US, do you think it is advisable to apply for Employment Authorization Document (EAD) on the basis of financial challenge? Will this not come back to haunt you when you want to renew your visa? I'm thinking that once the visa officer discovers that you applied for EAD on the basis of economic challenge, he or she will conclude that you do not have enough financial resources to support yourself, therefore your visa renewal application may be denied? What do you think, guys? Has anyone here applied for EAD on the basis of financial challenge? |

As international student applying for study visa. Does telling the VO that I have plans of returning in the summer help my case? Also does it put any limitations to the type of visa I get. Will I be mandated to return during the summer if I decide not to return as promised? |

I suppose you don't know what EAD is and means. It is given to residence of the US only. You have to be inside the US to apply for. The categories of people who can apply for it include K-1 fiance visa holders, asylees, people with a pending application for adjustment of status (a green card) spouses of various visa holders, people with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED), F-1 students experiencing economic hardship or seeking optional practical training (OPT), and so on. neurosci: |

Don't put out unnecessary words out there. The visa officer is not interested in what you do with your time during your holidays in between your study period. His main concern is what your plan is after the completion or duration of your course of study. Saying you plan to return home during the summer expressly means giving yourself away to doubts over your intention. Questions like 'who asked you this?, return home in the summer for what? How does this add to your home tie etc.. arise and there would be no time for the visa officer to ask you these questions, he would only sum it up for you that you are not genuine. It's a clear red flag, over representation and a kind of cover for some lies which nobody has accused you of yet which can force the white paper out untimely. Go in with your study plan and be coherent plus believable. Gabbybanks: |

@Lagos NIV @Abuja NIV Hello @ Laos NIV @Abuja NIV I need an advice on an F1 visa issue and will really appreciate if I can get a way out of this. Kindly help a sister in a jam. My story goes thus: Sometimes in 2016, my pregnant sister and her husband with their son applied for a US tourist visa and were granted. During the interview, the consular asked whether my sister will visit the doctor and she replied negative. My sister spent 5 months in the US and returned with the child. Their visa expired and the husband is the busy type and has no time for the renewal. Fast forward to this year, the husband was granted admission for a graduate study in the USA and was even offered a little scholarship by the school. The husband applied for F1 visa and was refused. During the interview, the consular stated that the husband travelled with his wife without their child to the USA two years ago and gave birth there after having misinformed the then consular that they will not visit the doctor. She asked where the wife is and the husband answered that she is at home with her business. She also asked how much was paid and the husband answered. The consular also asked for the receipt but the husband answered that when the wife is coming to renew her visa, she will bring it along. My sister's husband doesn't want to miss this scholarship so he wants to apply again before the school resumes this month. What can he do to be granted the visa? Should he apply with his family again for F1 and F2 visa?will really cherish one right now. Thanks. |
