Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) on Monday said Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state has a dirty mind over his remarks that the alleged the decision to withdraw $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account to fight Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East region as surreptitious move by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government to fund President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election in 2019.

Speaking in a chat with INDEPENDENT, Sagay who said he is not surprised by Fayose’s remarks said the governor is in an entirely different world from the president thus finding it difficult to understand what “good and purposeful governance is”.

“Well, if your mind is dirty, you will think every other person who wants to do something right also has a dirty mind. Obviously, Fayose’s mind is very dirty but the president is not like him. He is a man who has an integrity that has been established ever since he joined the military”.

“He is a man who has maintained that integrity as governor of a state, chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), Minister of Petroleum Resources and Head of State. Since then till now, no single rumour of financial mismanagement has been made against him. So he is as clean as a whistle”.

“A man like Fayose can never understand that because it is just too much for him to decipher. So, when he opens his mouth to say the president’s aim is to use the money to prosecute the 2019 election, I am not surprised at all”.

“President Buhari and Fayose are in two different worlds entirely. I will say they are many, many galaxies apart. So, no matter how he tries, there is no way Fayose can understand what President Buhari who is an upright man does because that is not his world. He can’t just comprehend what good and purposeful governance is” he said.

Sa-gay the ugly face monkey. Everytime, Buhari have integrity integrity integrity. I wonder if there's another meaning for integrity. Sometimes I wonder how this moronn and obla became lawyers. Excess crude account is not excess Northerners account.

Every state who want to donate their own share of the dollars should do so. But you can't grab the money and claim that every Nigerian approved it. Nonsense.

Down here in the South, no salary payments for 16 months. And sagay want us to watch criminals take our money to give to criminals in the army.

Lets the approval pass the right channel.. we cant keep funding bokoharam and all its attrocities, it has turned a cash cow for every tom, dick and harry..

Is it not ikorodu residents that clipped badoo? Was $1bn allocated to them. If money has been allocated, dont you think the obas and politicians would have imported more badoo's?..

Think Nigeria... Think

The withdrawal was approved by the national economic council, a constitutional body that comprises of all the 36 governors. If Fayose has issues with the withdrawal, he should have made his case at the council level where the decision was taken. He should have canvassed his argument and convince his fellow governors instead of playing to the gallery after the decision had been taken.

All governors in Nigeria are members of NEC so, the issue of consulting some governors doesn't even arise. All members of NEC took the decision collectively.

The way the request or "approval" come is very suspicious. How was the sum of 1b dollars arrived at for instance? How came it's the governors making request for security? Fayose has been in government long enough to know how things work. We ought to ask why the same method wasn't used to source funds for ogoni clean up for instance. Let's not hasten to sell our birthright for a pot of soup
