Obiano has failed with a big F in transport and roads. Onitsha needs to convert many roads to one way roads and put traffic lights and proper traffic police. They need scheduled 30 seater buses to run routes around the city not ten thousand rickety keke tricycles. All sidewalks should be freed from the nuisance of traders and wheel barrows. All primitive markets need to be upgraded or relocated away from busy arteries.

To be honest,Obiano has not been able to deliver on half of the things he promised. The roads are narrow, the transportation system is a big failure and his road works are mostly substandard. He doesn't have the magic wand, just another loudmouth politician.

Like you rightly pointed out most of the roads in Onicha, Nnewi and Awka should be just one way thats how you design roads in a populated town with minimal land mass. Obiano should know this, he has lived in United States and been to Downtown Houston and saw the way roads were designed to decongest the roads.

Some home owners are already developing their own plots at Obinwanne estate, New Town, Awka.

The ever rising cost of land is something that might stifle development of residential buildings in Igboland

On the Obiano question.
The governor is doing very well. Dualizing township roads in already built up and congested Onitsha and Nnewi might to out as mission impossible due to the level of demolitions and compensation required.
He could introduce certain roads as One-way roads. Then put functional traffic lights to guide traffic orderly. OCHA brigade should always stay at those strategic junctions and apprehend traffic offenders and impose heavy fines.

Most importantly, Obiano must Dualize the Onitsha -"33"- Umuleri road A.K.A (Nkisi road). Even if it's a federal road. That road holds the key to unlocking new areas that will enable Onitsha become a mega-city as well as open up the coastline shores of Anambra for development of world class business districts, hotels and malls. Unless that road is finalized to guarantee very smooth flow of traffic, no reasonable development will occur along that axis where Anambra still has vast land to build world class city very close to Onitsha

Anambra also needs to place more emphasis on completing the ORIENT PETROLEUM REFINERY than the silly airport project. A very small refinery can be completed as the first phase while capacity is gradually added.

There's no road that cannot be worked, it is a matter of government will. Roads like 3-3, Awka road to DMGS, Limca roads to mention a few have enough allowance for expansion. And i know that these are some of the roads that will be awarded soon for reconstruction/expansion. As for the airport, it is as important as the refinery project or even more. We all need all of them because they hold so much to the potential of the state.

Anambra State government have not been creative and proactive. Onitsha and Chicago have a lot in common if we had been luckier with great governors. Chicago have the most balanced economy in the US, something Onitsha would have given to Anambra when you fuse Awka and Nnewi together as one economy.

Onitsha economy is still trade dominated with services and manufacturing contributing less than 20% of the GDP.

If Anambra State had opened up 3-3 Area, Oba and Nsugbe to reduce the influx of wealthy Onitsha business community into Asaba we would have added more jobs than trading in the state.

Apart from NAU , COOU and Okopoly, the impact of the private universities in the state are not felt. Tourism business is dead in Anambra State, Obaino after making noise of developing Ogbunike and Owelle Ezukana Caves to boost tourism, he has gone back to his shell. Agulu Lake Hotel is taking decades to complete but they noise surrounding it can cause a tremor.

As big as Awada, Nkpor are non have no shopping malls, I'm not saying its Obaino's fault here but when you just realized government have not done enough in these areas you will understand why investors won't go there.

Nnewi Mall is abandoned, Awka Mall is abandoned, Onitsha Hotel is abandoned...can we collectively conclude that the government is behind the death of tourism business in the state since they have failed in every angle to provide tourism enabling infrastructures in place.

Since 99 no government in Anambra State have been able to dualized any road, all the roads are ridden with open gutters and potholes, they can't even accommodate two Keke at the same time yet container trucks are allowed to park everywhere.

Onitsha need investment in medicine, academic, IT, tourism to challenge over dependence on trading community. Anambra State government should place embargo on building of markets until the ones built are fully taken over. Onitsha indegenes with alot of educated and informed elites should have built a community university in their hometown if they don't have an individual that can bankroll that.

Onitsha indigenes too aren't helping matter, see how other towns indegenes are developing their places but you won't see them bring investment to their hometown.

Large scale investments will not come to Onitsha until you improve the business environment of the place to attract large-scale industry and multinationals. As it is Onitsha is trading at its worst. Disorganized markets everywhere including on the streets. The state government encourages it and allows it. So during the day every dick and harry rushes into Onitsha to trade everything possible before retiring home in the evening. If Europe or America had remained street traders, Sainsbury's, IKEA, ALDI, Walmart, H&M would never have developed. Where is the equivalent of Oxford Street (London) or Fifth Avenue in Onitsha? There is NONE because trading has become an everybody's affair. No standards except appealing to the bottom of the barrel.

If I was to resurrect Onitsha I would start with cleaning up the trading and transport in the city.

TRADING

- I would have ordinances on how property is used for commercial purposes, how they should be maintained (painted), what facilities have to be put in place for each category of business such as toilets, waste bins, etc. Any property that does not comply after a grace period will be sealed and tenants ejected.

- I would totally limit street trading in the urban core to a limited number of carts that require state permits.

- I would ban the nuisance of barrow or mat trading and seize all goods caught in such an act and share their goods to civil servants.

- I would force all markets to be incorporated as entities and to submit their layout (stores), parking and facilities (toilet, waste) to the anambra physical planning board for re-approval and the Anambra State Tax Board for tax purposes. Any market that does not meet minimum standards would be given a grace period to make corrections or face being shut down. Markets wrongly sited would be given a time frame for relocation.

TRANSPORT

- I would get a Nigerian expert to study traffic flows within Onitsha for all roads

- I would use data from the study to design a scheduled bus transport system to replace tricycles and hiaces with bus stops along major roads and franchise it out to fleets.

- I would issue a limited number of ROUTE permits to privately-owned buses to reduce the incidence of "loading".

- I would establish central bus stations in Onitsha and Awka where all inter-state buses will be required to pick up and drop passengers.

I can see here many of us are wishy-washy in our fantasy of anambra.

1. What is anambra’s IGR and budget for the year? Last time I checked, the budget was 800million.

2. The only governor that has successfully pulled out a dualization was Chimaroke of enugu at new haven. The state is still paying heavily for it after demolishing over 20 houses.

3. Anambra is not a 1 town state!! After Lagos, anambra is the second megalopolis in Nigeria. Which means development is relatively widespread.

4. You all seem to forget that there’re 3 tiers of government: state, local and federal. What are the other 2 tiers doing within their ambient? I don’t see no one writing censures in relation to that.

5. In all your pontifications about beautification, none of you called out the local government which by law is actually their job.

..Obiano can do better doesn’t mean he’s not doing well.
An estate, a new hotel and an old people’s home is currently being constructed in my village..my village!!

A plethora of networking roads, a cassava processing plant, new town hall and various other investments is what my village of ogidi is enjoying from Obiano..

...yes, I have a 4 flat in my village..my village and I make 700k a year from it thanks to the benue indigenes fleeing their homeland to settle in anambra

You're not been sincere to Anambra people with your shallow excuse. If Ebonyi State can dualized many roads with solid work despite her low IGR and federal allocation.

Rochas has dualized more roads and expanded others than the either Anambra State government from 99 till today, you might tag his projects substandard but the bush paths Anambra State government pour hot asphalt on aren't even better.

Nnamani opened up many places in Enugu and built solid infrastructures that is why Enugu is the choiced place for real estate in Igboland today. Enugu government open up connecting satellite town to link the main city while Anambra State is busy building roads to agrarian communities that have less economic impact on the populace.

If Anambra cities are witnessing upsurge in population due to the volatile nature of Northern Nigeria. If our government have a little bit creative and proactive they would be attending to the cities cry for expansion of infrastructures.

Am Very ashamed whenever Anambra people come online to brag about infrastructures but they can't even point to a single project they are proud of. Many states now and building expansive roads with high raised sidewalks and closed drainages, some loud mouthed people in Anambra State are still making noise of good roads network that are poorly executed.

infrastructurally there is nothing to celebrate in Anambra State unless you're under the government payroll or have sold your soul to the devil by telling lies online.

The whole of Awada, Ugwuagba,Ibollo all in Obosi with a population of over 2 million people are lacking in roads or other basic infrastructure. The govt can partner with the landlords to build at least all the major roads in the area in a year or 2 which will help to increase the Igr of the state.

We come online to celebrate individuals buildings and our government run away with murder. People are posting images from GRA where less than 1% of the city reside. Densely populated places like Nkpor, Woliwo, Awada, Ugwuagba they don't post their roads but their buildings.

@OREMI22, the reason why land is expensive in Anambra State is because of the capitalist tendencies of the state, everything has been monetized, even at Ihiala house rent cost as much as in some part of Lagos. Oba is a cut throat experience, the locals will fleece you while the agents will continue to extort from you.

Anambra State government have failed in opening up satellite towns and connecting places that will reduce the crowding of Onitsha. Everybody wants to buy land closer to the Federal Express ways because the state can't open other places with expansive roads.

If Anambra was able to open up 33 - Nkwelle - Nsugbe axis and drag one project there likes a state polytechnic , the pressure will reduce drastically in other places.

Oba Old and New Roads the pressure along the expressway will shift. Massive development is ongoing at Oba now, though the lands could be affordable but the development levy is punitive.

Ogbaru is waterlogged but it can still be salvaged if there is the political will to do.
Peter Obi was too foolish to have allowed the Abada sellers to build under the Niger bridge.

StanelWorld at Federal Express now Uche Ekwunife the same Federal Express, even Orient Petroleum is at the Federal Express, ABS, NAU, all the hotels, all the banks,... why because the state failed to open up new layouts that will force businesses to relocate and reduce the pressure on the Federal Express. As it is in Onitsha so it is in Awka... the state have failed woefully in opening up new layout, you can't find a befitting place along Anambra Federal expressways you relocate to Asaba.

Anambra cities are like toads, they jumped up squatting and landed squatting.

I am sick and tired of some people coming here to misinform the public. Are these not new areas being opened for development to spread in Awka? Why would someone bent on misinformation? Recently i posted these roads being done at inner Fegge but some people are bent on looking the other way only to come back and continue their misinformation. Enough is enough.

These are recently completed roads in Awka and developments are spreading to these areas. Why would someone dedicate time to just misinform people for no just cause if the person is not a bitter sadist. Even Lagos with all the money still has some of the worst roads in Nigeria and they still have some of the best roads in Nigeria too. One thing i noticed about Obiano in his 2nd term is silent infrastructural development. Yes Anambra has the best road networks. Let us learn to be sincere.

Ogidi IS NOT A VILLAGE. It is a TOWN.

A Town Hall is nice but if you ask me what Ogidi needs is the state government to PLAN the very successful Ogidi Building materials Market properly and get in fresh investment in expanding it into a modern wholesale market. The Building Materials Market clearly has outgrown limited parking facilities, toilets, self-power generation, primitive warehouse infrastructure. I would incorporate it and raise capital to build a far larger organized building materials market to serve every single state radio within a three hundred kilometer radius of Anambra. The population in this area is easily over 50 million and at least 10,000 buildings are built every year in this area.

If Ogidi dominated REGIONAL WHOLESALE building materials thats easily a 10-30 billion industry providing lots of jobs for wholesalers, transporters, banks, insurance, telecoms, food, etc.
