This cursed frustrated vagabond, leave this thread because it is very obvious you have nothing to reasonable to add other than spewing unfounded rubbish every now and then. Onitsha is a flagship city east of the niger.

[s]
mktinsight:

Onitsha is what happens when the mental inmates take over the asylum. A city that was center of trade, religion and education degenerated into free-for-all commercial chaos. Unlike Lagos no great organizations or companies formed from all that trade instead its 1 million small shops all operating haphazardly in the name of "competition" with no government to regulate their activity.

Nigeria is a poor country and there's no money . Nigeria only makes $35 billion dollars from oil per year .

A world class construction of all roads(sidewalks, bicycle paths ,bridges ,drainage, marking and traffic signs included) in Anambra alone would cost $10 billion dollars. Anambra only receives $11 million dollars per month or $130 million dollars per year from the Nigerian state .
A world class airport like the one you see in Dubai and US and china cost $1 billion to build. A 100 story skyscraper like the ones in New York and Dubai cost $1 billion dollars. Anambra needs $5 billion dollars to have uninterrupted electricity .Nigeria needs $200 million dollars to have uninterrupted power. That's one of the reasons there is no significant projects in Nigeria because there's simply no money after the 35 billion dollars is dispersed into 100s of cities, towns ,villages and local governments .

With yearly revenue of around $35 to $40 billion dollars , there's only so much to be done with a population of 180 million .That's why the economy needs to be diversified. Nigeria will not develop anytime soon, not because the president and governors would not like to develop, but because there's no money to do much .The money available at this time is to pay government workers and build a few mediocre roads and structures and keep the economy afloat.

Thank you very much. You said it all. You hit the nail on the head. Its really a good feeling when you come across someone who really gets it.

Everyone needs to read this in order to get the true picture of Nigeria’s situation.

Its not money, its called priorities. With $130 million per year you can do a lot in a small state of less than 6 million. Lets say you devote 1/4 of that budget to roads or $26 million. That is worth over 60km of rural roads or 100km of city roads a year. But how many Awka roads are paved? Or Onitsha? Lets say you decided to implement a simple water supply scheme in any city. Lets say delivering water to all streets in Awka costs $40 million you can implement it over a 10 year period.

The reality is that Nigeria has absolutely bad planning when it comes to infrastructure. Security vote for governors is in the billions, meanwhile just look at the condition of public schools or hospitals. Its absolutely a failure in priorities.

There is no waterfront development agency in anambra state yet. This is a No brainer.

In fact Onitsha needs to have a mayor to run the city independent of state affairs.

FG approves N200.176bn Second Niger Bridge Asaba – Onitsha link road, okays N109bn for Ibadan-Ilesha-Ife, Kano-Katsina carriage ways
September 26, 2019 Abdullahi M. Gulloma 0

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) Wednesday approved N200.176 billion for the construction of link-roads connecting the Second Niger Bridge to Asaba and Onitsha.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, at the end of the weekly FEC meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

“Secondly, for the link-road that connects the second Niger Bridge to Asaba and Onitsha. The Asaba link-road was awarded to Julius Berger and the Onitsha link-road was awarded to RCC Construction at the total cost of N200.176 billion
.

“So, this completes essentially the access road that will link the bridge in the short time. You might recall that these roads were under-designed when the bridge was awarded.

“So, it is this administration that completed the design and we now awarded them so that you can have a bridge that has link-roads. This was awarded initially under a public private partnership (PPP) and the bridge in 2010 administration,’’ he said.

Also speaking, Minister of State for Education, Mr Emeka Nwajuba, said the council approved N915 million for the construction of Faculty of Environment at the University of Abuja another N918 million for the construction of Faculty of Education at the university.

The federal government also approved the sum of N109.4 billion for the construction of the Ibadan-Ilesha-Ife and Kano-Katsina dual carriage ways.

All the answer you need is in my previous post . Sorry I can't help you if you lack comprehension.

Your problem is you think modernity is an event when its a process. All countries were like Nigeria once upon a time. China was poorer than Nigeria up until 1985. The difference is priorities. How many Chinese leaders have houses in London, America? The China invested in industrial layouts, education and it was that base that gave them the money to build Shanghai, Guangzhou and many of their first world cities.

Nigerian leaders are all fluff without substance. I have questioned what Anambra needs an airport for when three are 45 minutes away. But idiots will keep arguing. Onitsha is a primitive trading city that needs to badly get heavily into manufacturing or large scale retail but the nairaland idiot will argue.

I will praise ANSG when they do things right. The conference center is a good investment for Awka. But where is an industrial plan for Onitsha?

First off, Nigeria makes more than enough to build all the infrastructures needed to take the country where it needs to be ,however, we can't achieve that simply because we are living beyond our means. The ridiculous amount of money the government spend in recurrent expenditures is whats holding us back....Okonjo Iweala said it. Nigeria is like a poor man who lives in "face me I face you" but drives a Benz, eats at the best restaurants in town while his children attend the worst schools without common sandals! Dont feed us nonsense: the budgeted amount for Awka secretariat was over 700 million naira but Peter Obi spent 73 million to build the same project. The Nigeria elites are fundamentally wicked and heartless!

Give me Anambra and I will cut salaries across board by 70% and dump all the funds into infrastructures...I have seen and tasted suffering unlike most of you here who are from affluent background...You people dont love Anambra like Odenigbo Aroli do,you don't!
