Both are technically Federal universities since the college of education is affiliated to UNN.
I also understand that Computer Education is not a double honors course. It is a mix of some Compter courses and education courses. It's not like the Bsc(ed) Computer science. It's Bsc Computer education.
Computer Science Education is INDEED a double honor course. Check for Computer Education in Uniben, Unn and you will see they offer Bsc(edu).

No it is not a double honor course. It is called combined honors
There is a little difference between it.

Op you want to be a teacher and be collecting 25 to 40k salary No say we no tell you, better use your head. With Computer Science Bsc you can even teach if you want to. You also stand a better chance in other industries as well. Being an educationist limits your Career. Above all Teaching Career is very frustrating in this country. Insults from your employer, students and their parents plus meager salary with no hope of Career advancement prospects. I m talking from experience. I don talk my own ooo.

Good luck.
There is nothing a computer scienctist can do that a csc(edu) can't, we can opt for a master in pure computing if we want to. Work in IT firm. From experience bro.
Get valid info before you give advice.

Ohh...yes you are right with the word...Combined Honour...but I still stand by my words that Universities that offer Computer Science Education certifies with Bsc(ed). You can check Uniben, Unn etc. on that...

Der Ntin 2 Regret In It

My dear you are still in school and I won't say you should stop giving people bad advise cos it is not really your fault. That is what your lecturers in school have sold to you. How much do u think they pay educationist? With shylock schools we have all over the country? Then come to talk of the other, those in education, do not learn exactly what their degree counterparts learn. You may not know this cos u are in a college of eduction affiliated school. Go to the university and compare those doing business admin and business education they have few related courses. When they do same courses the unit is usually different with education courses carrying more unit. My friend was told this same thing she went for an education course she is not having the best of it. In terms of knowledge she is not anywhere close to me. This is someone I knew from secondary school and I knew her capability she wasn't bad in all standards. If you know u don't want to be an educactionist then don't read education more especially as the op already has admission for a degree course.

We are talking about job you are talking about IT. If it was that easy to get into such places how many percentage of the class did theirs in good places. Come to think of it, do education students now go for IT instead of teaching practice? Something does not add up in this statement of yours.

My brother same thing happen to me, I study computer science, apply tire na story, school keep giving me offers, bigger schools demanded educational qualification, I got no choice and applied for pgde. Today I have my b.sc and also pgde. And I teach in a setting that even pay more than so called companies. The most important thing is to develop yourself. If you study b.sc and graduate with 2.1 and u study b.ed and graduate with 1st class. Who has an edge. Don't be deceived Nigeria is just a certificated society.
Develop yourself to be the best at whatever u do. The world will come looking for you in a matter of time.

Computer Science is saturated.
What is imperative for him now is to develop himself.
A lot of us here don't want to accept the current reality about things happening in front of our very own eyes.
He should follow his heart though.

Please I need your opinion on this. A brother needs some advice.

He got 2 admissions, One at a Federal Univeristy via Jamb-UTME to study Computer science for 4 years and another one via Direct Entry at a Federal College of Edu affiliated to UNN, to study Computer education for 3 years. He's currently 25 and is confused of which to go for. He's very worried about the age he'll graduate considering that he's the first son, and also the kind of degree he'll get if he chooses the 3 year option.

Your wise words are appreciated.

He should opt for the 4 years JAMB Computer Science admission. If he goes otherwise, he will MOST DEFINITELY regret it.

After going through most of the comments here, i think Computer Bsc Ed is a better choice. The reason i think so is, if you study computer Bsc Ed it should be Double honor? if so you can actually teach or be a tech personnel. if after computer Bsc Ed you can do some certification programs.

Just my thought

Being honest though, i don't thin k it would matter if you studied Comp Bsc Ed or Comp Bsc if you still cant secure a job after school. while you're out there looking for employment and someone who studies isn't in line which computing gets the job.

Bachelor of Science is a degree awarded to students who complete the course of study in the field of science (major and minor in biology, chemistry, physics, math).

Bachelor of Science Education is a degree awarded to students who complete the four to five year course of study in the field of science (major and minor in biology, chemistry, physics, math) with major Educational courses, it is the combination of degree in science and education course (sometimes referred to double degree programs B.Sc + B.Ed = B.Sc.Ed)

Bachelor of Education(B.Ed) is a course offered for those interested in pursuing career in teaching. The B.Ed degree is mandatory for teaching in higher primary schools and high schools.

I hope this helps.

I am currently running my degree program in Computer B.Ed

Bachelor of Education(B.Ed) is a course offered for those interested in pursuing career in teaching it is way better than the NCE. The B.Ed degree is mandatory for teaching in higher primary schools and high schools. It is not just for those hoping to be teachers, this program helps you become self reliant it teaches you practical and you do both teaching practice and industrial training. At 400 level you get to choose an area of specialisation.

E.g....
Art.Ed, creative art, applied art, printing and textile...

Comp.Ed, software engineer, hardware...

I've attached an image of a flier you can go through
