The truth is bitter. Many public universities are producing half baked students. Incessant strikes, non challant attitude of lecturers had made it so. No regulations, lecturers behave as they like yet they will be first to ask for salary

Long story short, there is no university in Nigeria that has top ranking in Africa and the world. Let’s just put it that the best university in Nigeria ranks around 100,000th in the world. Shame on the system.

UNN has a much higher research presence on Google Scholar and research gate than your so called "private" university.

Just see this; it's not the VC that rated it; check where covenant is (on the webometric report of Dec 2017) and how many citations they have which is a result of the quality of research and check UNN. Then you make your comment.

By that ranking Covenant University has only 9953 citations, Unilorin has 17,832 citations, UI has 21,455 citations while UNN has 26,736... This publication are not in local journals but in Journals of international repute which is indexed in Google Scholar.

You can say whatever you like, but the records are there, public universities might be faced with a lot of challenges but they are still making strides.

True. But could you mention a post where I generalised? University isn't wine, wherein it's a thing of the older the better. I respect a few Private universities that are making huge strides in tertiary education in Nigeria. It would be a lie to assert that "ALL" public universities are living in past glory.

I agree with you (on the regrets of attending a public university). I'll be making the greatest mistake if I send my kids to a public University or perhaps any university (public or private) in the country. Although private universities in Nigeria are a lesser evil

A 17 years old newly-admitted student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure has reportedly lost his tuition fee to acclaimed members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Operatives, SARS.
According to the reports reaching us, the student, Mayowa was on his way to the bank to pay his tuition fee when he was accosted by the officials.
He was said to have been driven round the town of Osogbo, where the incident happened, before the security operatives took from him a sum of One Hundred and Sixteen Thousand Naira (N116000) budgeted for his tuition fee and some other payments.
However, this report has stirred the "End SARS" campaign in the University as students are beginning to take over social media to express their displeasure to this unprofessional act.
In his displeasing expression, Feranmi said that the act of the security operatives amounts to theft and deserves appropriate legal sanctions.
Annother comment from Innocent claimed that the act was uncalled for, as the operatives have no right to have collected the money from the student.
"What is the offence of this boy, and moreover, no matter the offence, the SARS don't have the right to collect his money from him, most of the SARS and policemen should have studied criminology. They are professional criminals."
This incident has added to the extortion cases experienced by citizens of Nigeria as the clamour for the end of SARS to the Nigerian Government decreasingly continues.

The research, discoveries are seen in some private universities in Nigeria. Half baked students are produced in public universities because most of the students just cram and pass exams.Many can't put what they learn to practice. Lecturers will rush to teach students towards the end of the semester yet they expect the students to pass well.
