The genesis story goes a long way and can be interpreted in a variety of ways, but I'd like to pinpoint what I came up with after several researches. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Remember the heaven then the earth. So it shows the heaven was created before then the earth.
It goes on with “and the earth was without form and void" meaning the earth had bn created in the beginning with no specified number or figure for the creative period. Now what happens next is the productive period. The earth without form and void could practically be like other planets in our solar system ( jupiter, mars, Venus, Saturn etc). The productive period is most believed to be 6 days but I disagree it is 24 hour period but could have spanned for thousand of yrs because the 3rd and 5th day was a succession of seed growth. Days in God's viewpoint could mean a wide period. Reason is God is not governed by time, and he himself laid the rules of time that is why he can arrange the future. He's very powerful!
Does this in some way depreciate God's power because he didn't productively present the earth in a 6 day(24 hour) period. No it shows how God is orderly in everything he does and it shows in its creation. Think about the human body.

My Good friend, i am not trying to degrade your beliefs in any way, far from that.. as a matter of fact, i believe everyone has the right to his or her beliefs and i strongly stand in favor that fact at all times. However, what i have a problem with is you trying to discredit scientific facts that took a lot of tremendous effort and research to reach, from the comfort of your bed without any comprehensive research or theoretical evidence. Do you think these scientific conclusions were just generated from thin air? They took a lot of hard work and huge resources to arrive at, just as the conclusion of this particular issue about the worlds dating was gotten from decades of sophisticated radiocarbon research and dating techniques, so you can't just sit at the comfort of your home with limited knowledge to discredit scientific facts, if you feel any scientific fact is wrong, disprove it in the right way; the scientific way! after all, disproving old facts for newer and better ones is what science is all about. But please don't go about mocking people who believe in scientific conclusions as fools, because we are all enjoying the benefits of science today, including you so if you want to discredit science, fine, But either you discredit all of it which is science itself, or you disprove it with Concrete evidence(the scientific way), or you acknowledge the obvious truth(or at the very least, don't mock It).
