Nnamebuka:Read Job 42:6, Jonah 3:5-6, knowledge is power. There is nothing pagan about applying of ash, but there is a whole lot of pagan in being ignorant. 1 Like |

Apart from the Catholic Church, another church I can comfortably attend is the Anglican Church. Proudly Catholic. |

nice epistle, and very educative, for people who celebrates Ash Wednesday i do not have a problem with that, i'm a Pentecostal we do not celebrate it ...however i would love to add that having a godly sorrow for sin r genuine repentance goes beyond an outward sign of carrying ash on the forehead...if your heart and attitude towards God and man is not reformed as an evident of a re-birth( being born again) and daily following in that routine then the outward sign is a waste, true worshipers will worship in spirit and truth..your spirit knowing what is right to do and truth-God's word...i think one of the reasons some Pentecostal Christians tend to often criticize orthodox christian notably Catholics is their emphasis on physical signs and activities without an inward/inner re-generation ...we learn every day and there is no need to antagonize one another 1 Like |

No biblical reference to why it is practised. This is one of the pagan practice that has remained. Op, go and read what Jesus said about fasting. |

Nnamebuka: Bible verses were stated. Did you bother to read? It was stated in the write up that it's used to show true repentance as stated in Job 42:6. Do you have to condemn it just because you don't believe in it? There are a lot symbolic practice today that are now being hugely celebrated. For example, did Jesus himself ever celebrate His own birthday? Well, it's the one we have blown out of proportion and call Xmass that everybody merry about partying and actually forgetting the real events which should majorly be 'soul winning' |

lucky4west: i am happy with this submission of yours. is it safe to say that you also do not believe in the ...with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation... as the way to be born again, like alot of you pentecostals insist? and so when you tell them even the muslim will go to heaven, they attack you because in their words, until you profess with YOUR MOUTH that jesus is lord you "cannot be saved". @joagbaje @donnie @ubenedictus 1 Like |

yommen:Sir read me well before attacking. I said there's "no direct traceable scripture that linked the practice". Those bible verses stated in the original write up are just conjectures. For the starters, there was no practice called LENT in the Bible in which the so-called ash is being administered. Just like the above highlighted, it a symbolic practice that should carry no weight in christian leaving. That people repent in dust and ashes in the ancient times signifies true act of genuine repentance is not in question or in doubt. What I tend to question though is do they choose a particularly selected season of the year called LENT or any other name for that matter to genuinely repent of their sins or does this practice happen at any time and as spontaneous as can be? You see what this is advocating for is Just lead your life however you like every other time of the year, but be sure to remain clean during the Lent season. It doesn't seem like a genuine repentance to me. Note however that I'm not judging neither an I claiming holiness. Just being logical. kayneri: |
