This thing is simple. Let the states that can afford state police by all means do so.One region of the country should not be allowed to continue to hold the others to ransom. A Child that doesn't want to grow up should be given melecine to further dwalf him/her! 56 Likes 4 Shares |

You see what I and many others have been saying about these Arewa people, they will keep drawing us back to medieval times. Whatever the SW, SS, SE, MB propose that is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf and a way forward, they will oppose it and since they control the government it will stand. So we propose the need for the representatives from these regions listed above to come together put away their differences for the main time and wrestle power away from these Arewa people. The advantages of State Police far out weighs it's disadvantages. Safeguarding the lives of people far out weighs the issue of Governors using them against their political opponents. We should remember the primary responsibility of every government is to safeguard the lives and properties of its people without that then there is nothing called Government. 38 Likes 3 Shares |

We don't need state police in Nigeria cos it undermines the president's authority as the commander in chief of Armed Forces. Islamic laws alone is enough to police the country if the federal government can enforce it. Sharia law is the best form of policing any sane community will clamour for. This is why the Sokoto caliphate policed the entire north to submission due to the effectiveness of Islamic teachings 1 Like 1 Share |

We don't need the ACF to decide what Nigerians want. A united Nigeria has economic and political benefits, but if it becomes a burden for one second then unbundle it. 3 Likes 1 Share |

“I do not believe that state governors will abuse state police. Even if they do so, they would have copied it from the present Federal Government, which also abuses police power.”Nice response. I watched a TV program on this issue and need to hear ridiculous excuses these northerners are giving to argue against State policing and I wonder if it's a must for them to live in states that have state police. If this country must move forward, power must be decentralized. A centralized federal government is the cause of our backwardness today, same way a centralized police is the major cause of all the security issues we are experiencing today. Given enough equipment, training and manpower, the Nigerian police force would still be as ineffective as ever. And I don't see the federal government doing shiit to revamp the force. Reason is, they can't spend as much as is necessary to reposition the police. The Nigeria police all together don't have up to four hundred thousands men. We need at least, a million. They are not properly kitted, it will cost more than a million naira to kit an officer, now tell me, is the ACF ready to do these in order to stop the creation of state police across the federation? I'm just sick of this backward set of humans who are averse to change. Whether they like it not, progressive minded Nigerians must have their ways this time around. It's either we make this country work through restructuring or we go our ways. They can't have it both ways. 5 Likes |

Nairalanddist: When I began reading your post, I was shaking my head. Talk about being devoid of cogitative capability! How could state police undermine the President's authority, when he is (as you rightly described) the commander-in-chief of the armed forces? Just listen to yourself! The police force is a civil establishment. The president controls the army, the navy and the airforce. There is no way the police force could "undermine" the President's authority when he has the real armed forces at his command. And then, you went and said what made me realize what and who you are. That sharia law is the best form of policing. What cave did you crawl out from? The Islamic countries you are so hoping to emulate also have a conventional police force in place. I know, because I've been to many of them. The world has gone beyond the primitive, religion induced stagnancy you still fantasize about. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

In as much as I dislike buhari so much,I am not in support of state police for whatsoever reason for now..Maybe in the next 50 years when we have politicians that are not do or die and we practice true federalism where all components of government are trully independent then we can practice it..But for now the risks associated with it far outweighs the advantages. State govornors would misuse them so much it will lead to chaos in each and every state..Their won't be freedom of speech whatsoever..opponents would be sent into jail for filmsy reasons and you all will be surprised.. It would be a case of replacing GEJ with Buhari..That is exactly how it would be. For now,No State Police until we practice true federalism. When we do so,The Govornor won't be able to use the police and his or her political enemies.. |
