This is an ignorant utterance. There are American, British, Australian and Canadian universities in the UAE and you get a degree that is the exact same as if you had studied on their main campus. NYU and RIT are two of the US ones. Even the UAE local universities are well-known and accepted in the Middle East. seyisanya: 1 Like 1 Share |

lily156:The first sentence of your comment is uncalled for. Why apply to study at a branch campus when you could study at the main university in the domain country with work-study opportunities? In fact, as I type, admission to European and Canadian universities is straightforward provided you have all the right documentation and initial funding, so why spend huge dollars to study at a branch campus in the UAE. Just so you know, branch campuses are like franchises. As an average Nigerian looking for prospects in today's highly competitive global job market, please take your hard-earned dollars to the US, Europe, Australia, Canada to obtain your international degree. Leave branch campuses to the kids of the elites and politicians. Regarding UAE local universities, please don't do it! 5 Likes 1 Share |

Many people have their reasons for studying at branch campuses. There are many people who go from USA, Canada to branch campuses because tuition is usually cheaper. Yes, for a Nigerian who is chasing residency in the West through a student visa, by all means stick to US and Canada schools. But if that doesn't work out, try other schools in places such as Singapore, China etc For someone who needs a degree for promotion on the job and is not chasing relocation and work study opportunities and who would otherwise pay grad tuition anyways, going to NYU Abu Dhabi vs NYU NYC would be more cost effective because at the end of the day, he gets the same degree. Actually you'd be more competitive in the global job market with a degree from NYU AD than with a degree from a farflung corner university in the boonies of Australia or the UK. My first sentence was because your dismissal of a masters in the UAE lacked nuance and can affect an uninformed person's decision-making. You might not believe me but I schooled in the US up to the doctorate level, I have worked internationally and at many stages I've had colleagues with a BS from Africa, MS from UAE or Oman or Qatar or Singapore or South Africa etc and sometimes an additional degree eg PhD from the US or Canada. They have good jobs and are valued for what they do and what they know. My former dentist in DC went to dental school in the UAE and practices in the US. The sister of my US born realtor went to Pakistan for med sch and returned to the US to write her boards. Their parents migrated from PK. She did it to avoid student loans in the US. So yeah the world is far more connected than you think and if opportunities arise outside of the US/Canada, people should consider it. seyisanya: 3 Likes |
