I have to say there is a lot of undue hype about not signing a new keeper. Yes we wanted a GK signed, and we hoped for anyone but Almumuni and Fabianski. . . . .does that mean that anyone is better than those two? Not necessarily. Yes the 'chosen one' was Schwarzer, but under the cold light of day, I don't know if he was so much of an improvement over Almunia. . . if anyone watched the last game of the season and saw the gaffes he made, an Almunia suffering from that would've been assassinated. Ok - it sounds like trying to put down Schwarzer or sour grapes because we didn't get him. . . .but that really isn't the case. if we were on the case of Gigi Buffon, Casillas or Reina, then I'd be disappointed. The fact is we haven't signed MS or any other keeper. We must get behind our boys and back them 100% I think we can win with Almunia, despite all the talk. . . .I just hope he doesn't injured, or if he does, that Wenger plays Mannone and not Fabianski. We can't change anything right now, so moaning and complaining is pointless. We've signed a striker and two CBs and I feel the squad is stronger than last year. It would be even stronger with a GK, but we didn't get that so we must move on. |

dayokanu:David Villa's attourney and confidant.! Take a look at what David Villa said about Arsenal just two years ago and delete that your gibberish fast! DAVID VILLA is ready to snub Chelsea and move to Arsenal. The ?20million-rated Valencia striker, 26, shot to the top of Avram Grant?s summer hitlist after netting 63 goals over the last three seasons. Chelsea chief Grant is thought to have made contact over a move. But Villa insists he would rather be a Gunner. Villa said: I watch the Premier League a lot and the team I?m most attracted to is definitely Arsenal. David Villa says Arsenal are brilliant Their brilliant one and two-touch football and the whole style of rapid counter-attack which dominates the top level of the Premier League now is the one which suits my game best of all. I think I'm made to succeed in England but of course it's one thing saying it and quite another getting there and then doing it. The Valencia president always told me he wouldn't sell me until summer 2008. If an offer comes in I?m hungry to test myself in England.? If Villa cannot agree a deal with Arsenal, his next option would be to join fellow Spain international Fernando Torres at Liverpool. He added: ?It?s great playing alongside Fernando. We understand each other totally and we get on brilliantly off the park.? http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/boards/read/s378.htm?721,9207936 |

Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by dayokanu(m): 5:37pm On Sep 02, 2010 |
HNIC, You are funny. Do you realise that players ambitions change with time? CR7's ambition in 1998 might be just to get into Sporting Lisbons academy, in 2001 might be to play for Lisbons first team, In 2003 might be to play for a bigger club(Porto or even Valencia for him would be a big club then) In 2004 maybe to play for Manure first team Now look at where he is. When Villa made that statement, He probably never saw beyond that, Now go and tell Villa that Arsenal wants him and see what his reaction would be? Reporter: David Villa Arsenal FC is interested in you Villa: As what? An investor, coach or club owner? Reporter: As a striker of course Villa: Dem swear for you? Abeg which kain bad thing be dat? Na God go punish you for that thought. Why not go and tell Denzel Washington to feature in Wale Adenuga Super Story |

4 Play: Why wont they have fans, Dont we have people who admire failures in life? |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by debosky(m): 10:42pm On Sep 02, 2010 |
4 Play: Every spectator/fan is a masochist to some extent. Each season is a rollercoaster of emotions and we all go through it. Some end up winning, others don't, but the fans are essentially the same in the end. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by 4Play(m): 10:42pm On Sep 02, 2010 |
dayokanu: Those people are called Arsenal fans. These people are self-haters. It reminds me of that David Chappelle skit where a black man joins the Ku Klux Klan. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by 4Play(m): 10:43pm On Sep 02, 2010 |
debosky: You can't use ''winning'' in the context of Arsenal fans. Winning what? |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by dayokanu(m): 10:44pm On Sep 02, 2010 |
Trophylessness is also winning i.e WINNING NOTHING |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by debosky(m): 10:46pm On Sep 02, 2010 |
4 Play: Games, battles, cups, league titles, etc - they are all examples of winning Arsenal has lacked the trophy at the end of it, but there are wins along the way for everyone to savour, as well as defeats and low points. Besides, for every ounce of masochism that you claim we engage in, there is an astonishing and disproportionately high display of voyeurism from people like DK. |

Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by duduspace(m): 11:55am On Sep 03, 2010 |
@Debosky I don't think Schwarzer is a better shot stopper than any of the GKs we have on our books, the 2 things he brings are experience (mostly of the PL) and command of his area on those long balls and corners where we seem to suffer, with his physique and height also he would be valuable at places like Stoke and Blackburn (where Almunia has coped so far anyway) I think Arsena also wanted him as a GK coach for our younger keepers (Mannone and Szczesney), and probably to keep Almunia on his toes. I'm sure he will still go for him cos I don't see Schwarzer renewing his contract at Fulham with what has happened. Almunia will surely be replaced very soon even if we win a trophy as those other GKs are chomping at the bit. on a funny note, here is an indonesian gooner's advice for Fabianski (from Arsenal worldwide)
Fabianski : You don’t have to take our advice… but please if you have some time do the following. Go to the gym, punch a sandbag A LOT 8 hours a day. So when you play under Arsenal sticks again pretend the head of your opponent as a sandbag and PUNCH IT!!!! When referee ask you what are you doing, just tell him you’re going to punch the ball. And oh we know you are nervous, so try to be relax. Difficult Times for Indonesian Gooner
he also had quite funny advice for individual players. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by duduspace(m): 11:58am On Sep 03, 2010 |
ritchboy: I don't think so, he more than merits his place at present. If he can keep this form going Arsene will just have to find space for Prince Nas in the middle or probably give Arshavin some bench time to get his mojo flowing again. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by Specialist900(m): 1:51pm On Sep 03, 2010 |
Who cares to join me in my '6 DAYS FASTING AND PRAYER'. AIM: That our players return back from international duties in one piece and not with 4months injury. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by ritchboy(m): 2:15pm On Sep 03, 2010 |
duduspace: Arshavin is unbenchable, if you havent already noticed. Arsene sent Rozzi to the bench after his MOTM performance against Blackpool to accommodate Cesc(another unbenchable) Nasri isnt quite unbenchable yet but he's getting close and is certainly ahead of Theo in the pecking order. Theo would probably start against Bolton but if he doesnt score or put in another good performance then his run in the starting XI would come to an untimely end |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by duduspace(m): 2:41pm On Sep 03, 2010 |
I get your point about Arshavin, he always somehow gets himself to score the goals despite his unconvincing body language, we'll just have to live with him I suppose. but Theo works hard (has always done to be honest, its only the passing and close control that seemed to elude him) and if he continues in this goal scoring form over the next 4-5 games, he will likely become unbenchable. I've learnt not to question Arsene when he sticks to a player as we've been surprised time and time again and there are obviously things he sees in training that we don't. I still believe we've got better in house coming through the ranks though and Theo's got some serious competition coming up, but hes risen up to the challenge well so far. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by slimshay(m): 3:13pm On Sep 03, 2010 |
The last time AW willingly benched the Assasin, we lost at Wembly sparking off wide off-with-his-head protest at Wenger. Till today Debosky still insist it was Wenger's pride that caused it I can assure you, Wenger is not looking for the same wahala again. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by duduspace(m): 4:28pm On Sep 03, 2010 |
slimshay: Do you really think Arsene bothers about what anyone says? if he did Arsenal would be full of English players by now. Arsene will always do and say what he considers to be right, that is one of the reasons the English media don't like him. If a player is not performing or if anyone stakes a better claim, Arsene will drop you like a hot potato. Just go ask Gilberto and Lehman, the only thing is he is quite humane and will always look out for an opportunity that will benefit the player if yu're no longer in his first team plans like he did for Gilberto and recently Eduardo. |
