Ramadan fast is a Pillar of Islam. It is obligatory on all matured Muslims.

It is proven in the hadith that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Every deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied between ten and seven hundred times. Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, said: Except fasting. It is for Me and I shall reward for it. He gives up his desires and his food for My sake.”

Narrated by Muslim (1151)

And whoever believes that he does not need to fast Ramadan (without any proven excuse) is not a Muslim. However, whoever is ill or on a journey may be excused. Also menstruating women, pregnant women or breast feeding women are also allowed not to fast if that may endanger their health or that of the baby.

Shaykh Ibn Baaz said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 15/225.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women come under the same ruling as those who are sick. If it is too difficult for them to fast then it is prescribed for them not to fast, but they have to make up the fasts when they are able to do so, like those who are sick. Some of the scholars are of the view that it is sufficient for them to feed one poor person for every day they missed, but this is a weak view. The correct view is that they have to make up missed fasts, just like travelers and those who are sick, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days”

[al-Baqarah 2:184]

Dear Muslims, Ramadan is about 6 weeks from now! Pay your missed Ramadan fasts and do not pile debt upon debt.

It was reported from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever dies and had any fasts outstanding, his heir should observe those fasts on his behalf.”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1851; Muslim, 1147)

It was reported from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with them both) that a woman came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said, ‘My mother has died and she has one month’s fasting outstanding.’ He said, ‘Do you not think that if she was in debt, you would pay it off for her?’ She said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘The debt owed to Allaah is more deserving of being paid off.’”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1817; Muslim, 1148)

May Allaah grant us Jannah without first cruising in Jahannam!

Even the brothers as well, circumstances may have led us to miss one or two or even more, this will serve as a reminder for us to pay back before the coming Ramadan.
May almighty Allah help us improve our Iman. Amen
