Mr. OLAWALE RASHEED #MOR 2018

The world has always craved and looked up to great men. As Shakespeare rightly said, ‘some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them. Mr. Olawale Raheed is indeed an enigma of those who achieved greatness. Born on the 2nd of February 1965 right in the heart of Oja Ale at Iwo, Osun State to the family of Chief and Mrs Bilawu Akanji, Mr. Olawale Rasheed henceforth MOR was fortunate to have a father who believed in the free education policy of the Action Group during the early years of politics in Nigeria. As such, the young MOR started his formal education at the District Council School Laito in Iwo. His educational pursuit was marred by several challenges arising from the high level of impoverishment at that time, a fate that befell several achievers born in that era.

However, by dint of hard work and doggedness, MOR round off his secondary education and secured admission to study English at the prestigious University of Ilorin in 1986. Although he turned down the choice of settling for Law as a result of his misconception of lawyers, studying English eventually paid off. It was a befitting course for a vibrant MOR whose literary and intellectual prowess was blossoming by the day. While in the university, MOR whose father was also an astute politician at the grassroots level during the first republic inadvertently found himself towing the same path. He served in various positions in his department and was also the editor of several student journals doing his best possible. What spurred him on was his believe that the price of greatness is responsibility. Therefore, in spite of busy schedules and huge responsibilities as a student, he still graduated with a second class upper degree in 1990.
Thereafter, he proceeded on national youth service to Abuja where his charismatic qualities made him instrumental in the creation of a cooperative society for corps members. Few months after his national youth service, he put in for a master degree in Public Administration in a bid to explore his political ambitions. It is worthy of note that MOR almost cut short his post graduate programme as a result of its huge financial demands but for the timely intervention of a close associate.
From being a committed teacher in the Oyo State civil service to becoming the private secretary of Chief Abiola Ogundokun and his eventual stint at Third Eye Newspapers where he became a force to reckon with, MOR’s life stresses that success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency and consistent hard work leads to success. Developing himself to become invaluable in his career, he joined the renowned Tribune Newspaper and rising through the ranks to become a regional editor. His resourcefulness and goodwill earned him various political appointments with the most recent as special assistant to the minister of state for power in 2014.

MOR is a man of many sides. Aside his successful career, he is the doting husband of Mrs. Tolulope Olawale, a father and a devout Muslim. He is also a mediapreneur and publisher of Sahel Standard Newspaper. As a man that understands that the greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively, MOR he has founded several non-profit organizations, one of such is The Olawale Rasheed Foundation. In sum, MOR is epitomizes the virtues of success, hard work and diligence. Therefore, in the search of great men with a Midas touch to turn things around, we need not look far as we are blessed with one from the ancient town of Iwo in person of MOR (Mr. Olawale Rasheed).
